The Uptown Dairy is quite the treat. Right in the heart of Uptown Ankeny this shop is bright and fresh and inviting. The place is immaculate and they have both indoor and outdoor seating options. For all my friends of the High Trestle Trail it literally is footsteps from their front door, you can eat their ice cream and ride your bike! WIN- WIN!!! The ice cream selections are amazing, and so many its is hard to choose, but i did! We got massive scoops of yummy, creamy deliciousness on a fresh and crispy waffle cone, of which they have several types to choose from. The workers on this particular day were fantastic, attentive and fast, They even hooked us up with some pup cups to go! (The dogs thank you!) Pretty pricey, but pretty worth it! What to know: servings are generous and there is richness and smoothness in every bite: there are LOTS of choices for flavors- some simple like strawberry but most with multiple ingredients. Free samples. Outside and inside seating. Pay extra for cones. Off the bike trail. So yummy!! I am truly so satisfied by both the inside bright lighting, quick service and very kind staff. I also was impressed with their options - I'm use to one coffee flavor and it being OKAY - no this had Carmel & dark chocolate covered espresso beans. They also had options for my lactose free friends which included sherbets so that was pleasant. I will need to come back for their coffee sometime!! Yall, this is a SINGLE. I sample ice cream shops to give you the best information. It's a sacrifice, but someone has to make these treks, or you won't know whether to stop and enjoy some ice cream. It's a task that many wouldn't take on, but I do it willingly. Seriously, this is a terrific spot. It opened last year and works well. Located in Uptown Ankeny adjacent to the High Trestle Trail, it has a biking theme throughout the property, which is executed well. Numerous older cycles are mounted on the wall, yielding a cool theme. I loved their neon artwork, too! I struggled to decide which ice cream flavor I would snare and nailed it with Cookie Monster, which was amazing. Oh my, yes, please. I was also impressed with their drink selection, a plus if you're on a long bike ride to Madrid or just finished a run. They also offer Lactaid tabs for people with dairy issues, a nice touch that is often overlooked. read more

Had been hoping to try this place out for a while! We came on a busy Friday night and got 2 milkshakes. I got the Wisconsin campfire s'mores and we also had pb chocolate swirl. The milkshakes are very milky and able to be drank through a straw, which I didn't love- I want chunks! :) The service by the employees was good and they told us about some upcoming events. A little bit expensive, but will have to come back and try a cone because that's what everyone else was getting! They have several tables and booths to sit inside and I'm assuming more outdoors when it's nice. Extra star for any place that has s'mores flavor! read more

Bright & clean! Nice variety of ice cream. Worker was efficient & friendly. I had a very Very small taste of pumpkin on a cute metal spoon to sample pumpkin but so small I could barely taste it. I then got butter pecan which was very mildly flavored. Hubby's chocolate & vanilla on a cake cone (.50 extra) was good! Friend had a mini of strawberry & strawberry cheesecake & loved it. This place was absolutely wonderful! We were greeted by 2 of the sweetest young people. They were super nice and welcoming! The ice cream was delicious! And the mini scoop was absolutely perfect sized for me who had surgery a few months ago and cannot eat a large portion! Tried a new ice cream place out yesterday evening. It is a great place and the prices are quite reasonable. The staff was very friendly and helpful as we made our selections. They have many flavors to choose from so finding what you want can take a little bit of time. I can tell you if you have not tried this place yet you should head down there. My family loves Uptown Dairy! We are there at least once per week. We love the variety of ice cream, especially at the holidays! The staff is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the variety of products. They are great with little kids and patient with sampling for our picky eater.
