River Rock did a brilliant job when renovating our backyard. Alex gave us wonderful ideas as we designed the layout. He was able to show us how the final product would look 3D on his laptop. Brad came out to us several times to discuss new ideas. Once the project started rolling his employees came on time every day, even Saturdays, to complete the work of demolishing the old gazebo, digging up the old concrete patio, shrubs, and hauling everything away. They took a lot of care to lay the new foundation and travertine pavers, a small surrounding wall, and finally the new gazebo which looks fabulous. Very meticulous (my husband, an engineer, was very particular and very happy!), professional, and respectful. Cleaned up the site every day. The project was completed on time and on budget. This is a great company to use for any of your paving projects. My husband and I had been saving up to remodel our backyard ever since the state of CA had been declared drought stricken in 2014. In 2015, Alex Molina then sales person now Project Manager had given us a quote but, unfortunately, we hadn't saved enough for the size of our project. Each year Alex would give us a call and check in to see if we were ready to move forward and each year, we would respond not yet. In 2018, we were finally ready but had decided to go with a competitor only to discover how bad that decision was and very early on. We contacted Alex to let him know we weren't happy with this other company and if he was willing to come over and give us a current proposal. He was more than happy and accommodating to do so. Long story short; Alex (River Rock Outscape) remodeled our backyard with both pavers and artificial turf. The construction crew was amazing!!! Very skilled people and the same crew until the very end of the project. Their work speaks for itself. Alex was available and attentive from beginning to end. We were and are still impressed with the results. Very disappointed. We've had several companies come over to build a patio in our backyard. A representative came over - very cordial and all, and we explained to him what we wanted and what we did not want for our project. He came back within 24h with a quote (extremely fast) - but had incorporated everything we had specifically told him WE DID NOT WANT. Besides, the quote turned out to be 30% more expensive than the 'ballpark figure' he'd given us onsite. When I enquired about it, and whether it was a mishap, or a misunderstanding or something... well, no answer... Nothing. That was 2 weeks ago. So I guess we will be working with another company. read more

River Rock Outscape did a beautiful job with our pavers, and we're incredibly happy with the finished product. They were here on time every day, working rain or shine. Very nice employees and answered any questions we had during the process. We'd definitely use River Rock again for a project, just be sure to communicate often with them. We removed one star for some of the stresses we had during the process. The plan was to widen our driveway and place pavers to drive on. They left a trash pile (roots, old pipe, rocks, etc) of things that were found during the dirt demo for a few days in our front yard, which was unsightly for our neighbors and I wish it had been out of eyesight. Aside from this issue, they were very clean, swept and picked up their tools everyday. Then we discovered a sewage line that would need to be lowered. The project contractor made it sound like no big deal to move. After we told them we'd like to have our plumber come take a look, they admitted they don't specialize in plumbing pipes and shouldn't lower the pipes themselves. We saw a lot of duct taped drain lines during their process, so I'm glad we made the call to get a plumber in to take care of it. (Note: They clarified the duct tape was only temporary when we asked about it.) The plumber made sure the sewage line was low enough to safely drive over and had an access point for us to get down there if need be. It all worked out in the end, but I can't imagine if we drove on top of an incorrectly moved pipe. Make sure to get a second opinion on major pipes like this (and possibly have the county come out to mark any gas and water lines prior to your project - turns out a gas line was close to where they were digging in the backyard as well). One other thing that concerned us was a dirt pile they had left close to the curb on a forecasted rainy night that they did not cover with a tarp. We had to call and ask after they had left for the day. But like I said above, if you stay in communication, you really will be happy with the work. They have competitive pricing once you add in the 30% discount - it was similar to some of the other quotes we received for the paving work. I received a quote from Alex. He seemed very knowledgeable and was polite. I have read other reviews saying their prices are low or are competitive. I am a senior citizen so maybe I am behind the times but a quote of $3535 to spread lava rock over a 1010 sq ft patch of dirt doesn't seem very low to me. This was with "30% off." I had some DG and other crushed rock that needed spreading as part of the quote. They were equally high. There was no excavation required because I did it myself. I passed. read more

I should have written this review last December but it's never too late to refer a good company. I had the hillside in my backyard terraced after my dog pretty much tore up all the ice plant that covered the area. I called RiverRock to come take a look at the area. I had used them before to install pavers around my pool. I now wanted those pavers to connect to the steps of the terrace. Brad came out to our home and discussed what I wanted. He had a program on his laptop and was able to put our ideas into a picture for me. He suggested some changes that would accommodate the grade of the slope. I really liked his ideas and told him of my plans to have trees and a vegetable garden in that area. He paid attention to everything I said because at the very end when they were putting dirt in back of the retaining walls he brought in organic top soil for my plants. I never requested that, it was just something he did. Since a picture is worth a 1,000 words I am including some pictures of the project. His crew were really good guys. They were respectful of the surrounding pool area and landscape. I have an old dog and an elderly mother that I care for, they were kind to both of them :-) Everyday they left the work area safe and secure for us. We hired River Rock to replace a wood retaining wall that was connected to our deck as well as replace synthetic turf in our backyard. First off, they showed up ON TIME for every meeting before, during and after the project was finished. Their bid was thorough and complete. We got bids from three other companies and although River Rock was not the least expensive (they were closer to the most expensive) it was money well spent. The work they did was top notch and we had excellent communication through the project. During the 6 week project we only had one day where someone was not working and I received a call the night before letting me know and asking if they could work that Saturday to make it up. We are very happy with the work they did and would recommend them to everyone. read more
