Tried breakfast here two mornings in a row while staying at the Westin. For both meals the staff were inattentive and seemed confused when questioned about the menu. A smoothie listed on the menu clearly stated it was made with almond milk. When asked if they had almond milk... they were confused and said it was made with soy milk and the chef must add almonds?? On morning two I received possibly the worst omelet I've ever tried. The smell of overcooked egg was so strong it was sickening. They had covered the browned areas with cheese. I picked the cheese off and tried to pick out some salvageable egg. In the end I had to push it away because of the smell. read more

We were only here because the wait was too long at The Big Fish Grill. Now we know why there were empty tables here. The appetizers were fine, spicy shrimp and the guacamole special. The shrimp roll was quite good, but the fish tacos were mostly salsa inside a tortilla that was dry, stiff, and very stale. The cheesesteak was tasteless, very little filling on a roll that was also quite stale. But the worst meal was the citrus chicken. This was so rubbery, such a horrible consistency, by far the worst chicken ever. Then when we split the bill, they ran one credit card twice, and the other one not at all. The cards didn't look at all similar. How could they get that wrong, too? I don't typically write bad reviews, but the credit card mess up was the last straw. I came here summer 2016 and it was still great as always, then brought family here again this January thinking I was taking them to one of the best place in Wilmington, and it was god awful! They got rid of most of the dishes (which are still on their website!) and the good old ones that I used to love, that they still offer, got so awful, it clearly wasn't the same recipe. the kale salad is now soaked in vinegar, the filet mignon and seared tuna (along with anything good) completely disappeared from the menu, and everything is now "poutine" - bacon wrapped baffalo wings, big boy grilled cheese (2 of my favorite dishes before) are now poutine sandwich and poutine wings. what the heck? I got the filet tip sandwich because there was no old favorites to be found on the new menu, and rest assured it was god awful. chewy, tough, under seasoned. So delicious!! Really, really enjoyed our meal here! The food was so well prepared, and was such a reasonable price! Plus, it wasn't very crowded, so it was a nice and quiet dining experience. I ordered the citrus chicken, and I was impressed by the flavors. My dining partner ordered the sweet potato ravioli, which may have been a special - I don't see it on their online menu. He really enjoyed it, though. We both indulged in dessert - the gluten free lava brownie was delicious, especially with the pecans. Will definitely be back! This is my first visit to the River Rock kitchen in Wilmington, Delaware. Lynn was just a phenomenal server. She sat us, made out drinks AND served outlet to-go meal. FANTASTIC! Living in NY, we are used to high quality food and preparation. Even though the concept is small plates, they don't skimp on portions. This restaurant rivaled many of my favorite restaurants in NYC and Long Island. From the gnocchi with short ribs- melt In your mouth, the truffle Mac and cheese- heaven on the tongue, the scallops-perfectly cooked with pear that burst with flavor, steak frittes-couldn't be better,lamb- expertly seasoned and prepared- melt in your mouth, and the bread service was a wonderful mix of olive oil, asiago cheese, black pepper and herbs. The dessert and coffee/espresso was also enjoyable but they need to up the ante on the selection. Kanir offered great service. Wine was also very satisfying and reasonable. Stopped here on the way to another destination and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. Steak Frites was nicely cooked and very good quality meat. The fries were delicious and had a sauce on them which was not overdone and was lightly drizzled on the top. My husband had a chicken sandwich with a salad that was also fresh and made well. Great chef. The service was good too-- waiter was very nice and attentive, and any time he wasn't available, somebody else stepped in with a smile. A slightly odd part of town as it is next to a baseball stadium and a random open parking lot, but for what you expect coming in, it exceeds expectations. read more

Was disappointed by service, quality of breakfast food, as well as pricing. Eggs were incorrectly cooked, sauce for Eggs Benedict was too thick and very salty. Poached eggs were heavy of a vinegar taste, hash brown potatoes were portioned small and undercooked. Waffles were too thin and overcooked. Very disappointing. read more

River Rock is located in the Westin hotel near the Blue Rocks stadium and also a planet fitness (which for the small plate size portions, you can probably skip the gym). If you are really hungry and your watching your wallet, you might want to try this place another time. My husband and I were the only guests for dinner. They seated us near the kitchen, so i could see and hear everything the staff did or said. Kinda a bummer since we were the only guests, and you had all these vacant tables available. Our server explained the menu and told us they specialize in small plates (that was nice to know upfront). Service was decent. -The asiago cheese bread came out warm and the olive oil was flavorful. -Our Pan seared scallops came out first! Sigh, for 17 dollars, you get TWO scallops, now that's just sad. I can think of alot of entrées i can buy for 17 bucks. They were delicious, but we felt cheated. At least put 1 more on the plate. -Strawberry and Burrata Salad- gorgeous plating with fresh strawberries, beets, and a good portion of burrata cheese. -Crab Spring Rolls-the crispy noodles were junk. Great flavor from the crab, veggies, and the best part of the plate was the drizzle (and i mean drizzle) of the sweet and spicy chili glaze. -Last we had the house smoked briskett- it was tender, but on the dry side. It came with alot of bbq sauce so we smothered the meat with it. Green beans still had a nice crunch to them. We passed on dessert, but our bill total was about 70 bucks plus tip. It was a nice experience, but with so many other restaurants around, you kinda feel cheated with how much food you get for the price. I am writing this review from the perspective of a hotel guest. I was expecting bad, expensive food since it was attached to the Westin. But I was pleasantly surprised! River Rock Kitchen offers an array of interesting eats at manageable prices. Went here recently during a business trip. I had the chicken panini with white cheddar and tomato, accompanied by an arugula salad and an apple pumpkin bisque. The sandwich itself was disappointing, with soggy bread and chicken breast that was borderline rubbery. However, the salad was fresh, and the soup was exceptionally good. The seeds sprinkled atop the bisque lent a distinctive salty taste and crisp texture to the its mildly sweet and hearty base. I certainly plan to try more menu items at River Rock, but I'll be avoiding that panini with a sure plan of soup and salad as my sides. read more

We were staying at the Westin to break up the drive from Upstate New York to the Outer Banks. The River Rock Kitchen, located in the hotel, was just right for a quick bite after 4 1/2 hours on the road. We split the filet and shrimp and grits tapas and they were both cooked perfectly and had great flavors and ingredients. We also had the s'mores dessert and it too was delicious. We were so happy with each of the three items we picked and highly recommend it for anyone staying in the area. Oh and we sat at the bar, and the bartender, a gentleman with the ponytail, provided great service and food recommendations! Thank you for a great evening. read more

I ordered the NY strip!!! Not your traditional strip. Looks more like a sirloin or filet. It was ordered med rare came out DONE! They apologized and chef Dave made it right! We wanted to try something new for lunch so we went to River Rock Kitchen. The decor is nice but looks and smells very much like a hotel. (Which makes sense as it is the Westin.) Waitress seemed inexperienced but friendly. Ordered a Chicken Panini sandwich. Sandwich arrived relatively quickly but the bread was overly toasted and super dry and had to be sent back. The fries were very good. Waited for the new sandwich for about 10 minutes but it was good once I received it. Willing to give it another try. read more

Visited Wilmington for the Craft Show at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. We were looking for a place to grab lunch, and the Yelp reviews about the River Rock convinced us to give it a try. Overall, the food was OK. My wife ordered the gaspacho for an appetizer, which said on the menu was available seasonally, so we figured it would be made from fresh ingredients. In addition, the server recommended the thai chicken lettuce wraps for my wife. I ordered the barley risotto with asparagus, wild mushrooms, and spinach for an appetizer and the chicken panini for my lunch, I questioned the server about the panini because it was labeled gf (gluten free) was concerned about the flavor, and I was considering two other menu items. When the gaspacho came, it was kind of a minty green color. It turns out that when it said "seasonal" on the menu next gaspacho, they meant that they change the ingredients weekly. This week turned out to be pineapple cucumber - and definitely not to our taste. The thai chicken lettuce wraps were flavorful, but when they say small plates, they mean it - it is definitely an appetizer, not an entree portion. The flavor was good though. The best thing was the barley risotto - it was delicious, creamy, and the distinctive flavor of each ingredient came through. I was disappointed with the panini. It was grilled chicken breast with provolone, tomato jam, and rosemary aioli on gluten free bread. Unfortunately it wasn't well balanced - the bread wasn't terrible, but I definitely could tell that it wasn't regular bread. The provolone overwhelmed the other ingredients - I could barely taste the chicken and couldn't taste the tomato jam or rosemary at all. Basically a meaty grilled cheese sandwich. We told the server that the gaspacho was not what we expected and it would have been helpful if she explained that the ingredients vary weekly when we asked her about it while we were ordering. She graciously offered to take it off the bill, which we accepted since we ate a total of two tablespoons full (one each for my wife and myself). Altogether, a mixed experience - the service was friendly, but points off for not telling us about the gaspacho when we asked, and talking me into the gf chicken panini even though it was not a good choice for someone not looking for gf items. The food also gets mixed reviews - very good risotto, decent thai lettuce wrap, poor for the panini and the gaspacho. read more

Horrible! Mother's Day brunch....really. This is the worst experience every I've had during Mother's Day as well as a restaurant. The food was cold, the French toast was hard, the crab bisque well I don't know what that was. So lumpy no flavor! Ugh! We had to send back all the glassware because it was filthy! It was so disorganized! The omelet station was all grease no egg! The coffee was nasty! The service was no better! When our waiter asked how everything was I stated that I've had better! You would've thought that the manger would've came over and inquired as to what the problem was, but nothing. Please do not eat at this restaurant. Even the guests of the hotel didn't eat here...that's saying something. If I could've gave a half star I would've! read more

I have been staying at the Westin for almost a month and eating many (ok most) of my meals from the River Rock Kitchen and I say - go there - it's good food! It is a small plates restaurant, so be sure to tell them how you want to receive your food (or it will come out in a random order), but be prepared to enjoy everything you receive. I have come to love the Kale Salad, the Fired Chicken Wings and the Asparagus with 40 Hour Egg as appetizers. For the main, my go to is either the Steak Frittes or the Verlasso Salmon or the Pan Seared Scallops. I almost always get the side of Brussel Spouts and I have not been disappointed. The food comes (as much as can) from local farms The wait staff are people you would like to hang with and will do what it takes to make it a great experience. read more

If I had to eat a late lunch here again, that would be ok. Food was good but with some shell in the crab/bacon mac & cheese. Unfortunately, as it is the hotel restaurant, I also had breakfast here today. Rotten service pretty much sums it up...maybe the kid was really new to this, or hungover or something? Slow, slow, slow, brought coffee but no cups, oatmeal but no spoon, etc. read more

My husband and I loved our dinners! We were looking for a new place to eat in the area and were sooo pleasantly surprised - first, with the beautiful appearance of the hotel and the wonderful hospitality of the entire staff, and, second, with the terrific food at the River Rock Kitchen. We decided to eat at the bar in the restaurant and had great service (and company) from the bartender. The mushroom raviolis were fantastic, as well as, the salmon and crabcake. Its not a large menu, but the presentation of each dish was beautifully done. The decor was wonderful and the environment so comfortable and warm. The 3 large light fixtures in the dining room were bunches of mason jars - so creative and updated. Definitely will return for that lobstah roll on the lunch menu! read more

Terrible Mother's Day brunch! Food was cold, either not cooked long enough or overcooked. I told the server there were no eggs on the buffet and she actually asked, "Should there be?" Hello! It's brunch. They did set up the omelette station shortly after. Another fail! Greasy, burnt omelettes. They had no plates at the omelette station! I asked if I should bring my own plate and he said yes, unless I wanted it in my hand! My 9 year old daughter asked the same question and he said yes unless you have a pocket! Outstanding dining. Clean (white glove dining room) with impeccable service and attention to detail. Food is created by a chef who cares about taste and presentation. Breakfast (Westin eggs benedict), Lunch (caesar salad, fried chicken, panini, fries, etc.) and Dinner are consistently EXCELLENT. Cocktails are created to perfection. The shuttle service is always an enjoyable ride too. I would definitely recommend dining and an overnight (HEAVENLY) stay with the Westin. The Westin knows how to PLEASE its guests. read more

Very disappointed in the quality of food at this restaurant. The Buffalo wings were overdone and very dry. The steak was poor quality and extremely tough. Not very much flavor either. The price wasn't necessarily an issue, but it didn't align with the quality of the food. The food presentation was nice and the wait staff was very polite and attentive. However, This isn't enough of a positive for me to return to this restaurant. read more
