Ate here on a Saturday mid August around lunch time. The outside area looked awesome and had spectacular views. Unfortunately for us, it was too hot and we chose to eat inside. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Drinks were refilled promptly. The food was meh. We ordered spinach artichoke dip. The chips were stale tasting and dip honestly wasn't that good. We left some in the crock. When it's super good my husband and I are fighting for the last bite. We did not do that this time. My daughter's mozzarella sticks were bland as well. Ate here last night with a party of 5. The food was good. Appetizers were good except for spinach and artichoke dip which was below average. The margaritas were terrible. The bartenders need to put tequila in them. Couldn't even taste any tequila. Either they're watering down the booze, or just ripping off the customers by charging a lot of money for drinks without any alcohol. We only had one drink each and all switched to water. We really enjoyed the food here and the views are amazing!! We loved the edamame appetizer and the Korean beef bowl was a very surprising favorite. The meat just fell apart and was so flavorful. I gave 3 stars because the service was really slow, we waited 2 hours and didn't have dinner yet. It just seemed exceptionally difficult despite complaining. It's nice to know that we have a lot of these places down here at the shore. By renovating this place a bit, it has become quite a draw. The location and good quality food also help. Cheri, a server here for a few years, came over. We spoke how the place has grown in the last few seasons. I felt like a light lunch, so I didn't want to burden my stomach with anything extensive. I ordered the filet mignon sliders and a non-descript beer. The sliders were excellent and so was the weather, sitting outside enjoying the boats and their owners pampering their toys. We have been going to RR for the past 6 years. Last night was the ultimate flop. We arrived around 4:45 and was not crowded. We got a table instantly however it took 20 minutes for us to be served. Once served we ordered 2 beers which took another 5 minutes and when the beers arrived, they were 3/4 full so they had to go back. We ordered shrimp cocktails and 30 minutes later they never came out. We flagged the waitress and said cancel the order. We then ordered chicken sandwiches and hold the peppers. Guess what - the sandwiches had peppers. First time in 50 plus years I did not leave a tip. There are more places to go in Ocean County and this one will not be recommended until they can get their shit together read more

Went here on a Friday night in June, here are the pros and cons. I'll preface with the fact that I went for the music n location. Pros: waterfront, two larges bars with different music, lots of seating, menu was pretty varied, live music and dj, great spot for the more mature crowds ie there was a wide range of ages on the dance floor Cons: long wait (hour) but we got some liquor at the store across the way and sat in the car and hung out, mediocre food for example I got sushi but was never told they ran out of soy sauce-odd to not tell someone that, the sushi was ok. Hubs got surf and turf and the steak was cooked properly but flavorless and the tail was dry. The outside bar is cash only-and we had no idea. Music-the night we went was Ruckus (did they did a number of good covers) on their break DJ Q is solid with a mix of oldies but goodies and by oldies I don't mean 50s music. Food is always very good. Tonight was the 2nd time we had bad service, the waitress (Nicole) while asking us for our drink order she cracked her knuckles and yawned, without covering her mouth. Grab some friends, some drinks, and listen to some great tunes. This was exactly why we found ourselves here on a recent Friday night; to catch up with some friends and listen to a band that we like. I wish I could say that the food is the third selling point of River Rock. The food is fine, but nothing special that I would have a hankering to dine here again. Third time is NOT the charm. We are newbies to River Rock. The first two times we went were fantastic. Great atmosphere and great service. Specifically the second time, where our waiter was truly amazing. Great personality and fantastic service. He even saw us and remembered us from our last visit. However, the most recent visit was beyond terrible. After waiting over an hour for a table (hostesses we're very gracious and over communicating about our wait, which I really appreciated). Our waitress couldn't keep up with her tables (we weren't the only ones unhappy.) We waited almost 2 hours for our appetizers, had to flag her down for every drink refill. She dismissed the delay on the kitchen being overwhelmed but surprisingly all of the tables around us turned over twice before we even got our appetizer. She then blamed it on the kitchen "having a problem with our ticket" We received no apologies. Veiled explanations. And a waitress that literally avoided eye contact every time she walked by our table. So disappointed in this last experience and despite the positive first two visits, we won't be returning anytime soon. One star reviews are very rare for me. I'm pretty easy going. But tonight was unacceptable. Communication goes a long way. Be transparent. Be honest. You lost our order. Not a single visit from a manager or supervisor. A simple apology would have gone a long way. Sorry River Rock. You could have been our next go to place, but nah. Spend your money locally elsewhere. read more

Went to River Rock for a small cousins reunion. They were very accommodating providing us with a quiet area to meet. The food was very good. The service by our waitress Toni was amazing. We did not feel we waited long for food and certainly did not feel rushed. We all had a great time. I was so happy we picked River Rock. And of course the view is beautiful! We had a about a 10 min wait to sit outside but the view is pretty cool watching the boats coming in and out. Menu options are plentiful and the food was delicious. We had an issue with one of our orders. Servers brought out the wrong thing but our waitress told the manager about it and they took off the meal and brought out the right thing for free. Not sure how all that happened but it was taken care of and food was delicious. I would like to try some of the other menu items the next time around when we visit. read more

Short & slightly sweet: Beach bar area is best. The outdoor deck along the river is cool. The sushi platter was very fresh. The little necks were so sandy we couldn't even eat them! This is a seafood joint right? Not impressed w anything else we had. Improvements are glaringly apparent: Speakers don't work consistently so the music is blaring one minute or mute the next, the dining chairs are plastic, cracked & shoddy, new paint, & power washing the yuck from the walls/corners, and brightening up the interior w a more beachy style. If they implemented these few things it would bring the guest's experiences to another level. I get coastal casual. But dirty, worn, and old is NOT a style. Service is ok, no sense of urgency. Just had a really great dinner at the River Rock Restaurant. The server was attentive but not annoying and the food was excellent. I had the Shrimp and scallops served in a pineapple- unlike me, I ate the whole thing! My husband had the Ribeye steak and our daughter had the filet mignon; both were also happy with their meals. This is a bar/restaurant on the water. It is not a romantic type restaurant (very loud unless you sit outside), but if you're looking for good food and maybe a few drinks, you have to check out this restaurant! read more

River rock is a great place to go for specials, drinks, food and music! Recently went here for St. Patrick's day and they had amazing food specials and drink deals. I hope they keep their Reuben all year long. Giant indoor seating and outdoor seating with river views! Been here for a few private events that the food has been so amazing and fresh. The service was fast and accurate, and the wait wasn't long, they send a text when your table is ready. Highly recommend for an all around good time. read more

I do not normally do posts like this but I definitely can not keep my mouth quiet this time. This is a picture of where me and my family were sitting @riverrocknj . When we were seated outside it was not raining but once we ordered it started to thunder then it started to rain and this is the table we were seated out. We quickly went inside and that's where the opposite of hospitality happened. Our waitress was amazing and went above and beyond to find us some sort of makeshift seating, she made sure we had everything we needed and above all she was super apologetic. Their management on the other hand could use some work. Not only were they extremely not accomodating to paying customers who were already seated, but the rudeness and responses of "its weather what do you want us to do about it" truthfully is not what people in this industry should be saying. @riverrocknj your managers need to take classes and pointers from your wait staff for these situations and in general just how to talk to and treat customers. The wariness and wait staff who don't get paid much went above and beyond. Overall , as a restaurant with outdoor seating on the water , you should have a plan for when this happens as well as know how much ur outside can handle heavy rains. @riverrocknj do better ! read more
