A bit of an unusual review. Unusual in how every person working at River Roast is empowered to ensure customers are satisfied. We had a couple of issues and two different employees- one server and one bus person- immediately took steps to correct the issue without having to get a manager. We only commented on something and they immediately reacted. Extremely unusual in these times, kudos to the culture they have created. Now the food. Sat outside along the river, beautiful atmosphere. Ordered Pork belly, was awesome, a great treat. Tuna tartar, same, unbelievable. Beef roast was good, no disappointments. Service was attentive considering how busy they were, was nice that servers not responsible for our table still asked if we were ok. Normally I would rate lower for a couple of issues we had, but the immediate response and care was phenomenal, erasing any negativity. In the summer, it looks like they have outdoor seating which would be great! Our server was also super nice and attentive. I had an incredible dining experience at River Roast in Chicago. From the moment I walked in, the warm reception and inviting atmosphere set the tone for the evening. The service was excellent. attentive without ever feeling overbearing, which made the entire meal flow seamlessly. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, each dish standing out on its own. I ordered the steak & eggs medium rare with the potatoes swapped out for a salad. Everything was insanely delicious, beef was extremely tender, pesto chimichurri sauce was perfect, and the eggs were flavorful. The pancake skillet was very dense and not your typical pancake but was still flavorful, I recommend to share. Altogether, the combination of great food, wonderful ambiance, and thoughtful service made this a perfect place to enjoy an easy conversation with someone you love. Highly recommend! read more

To get there was a little odd, but that was probably user error. We walked North on Clerk and went along the river overlook, around all the people eating. On the way out that gate was locked. So maybe try the front entrance. It does have a great view of the water, elevated between the road and river. The outside tables were full but inside was fairly empty. It is a large place but I believe this was dinner on a Sunday. We got the cheese board, $21. Cheese boards are always overpriced but this one had a variety of items and sizeable. For entrees we got the Beet salad, $18. The different components of this worked well together. It was also large and would be difficult to finish. And the Beer Stewed Mussels, $21. I really enjoyed this and I couldn't even eat all of it. The beer mixed well with the sherry. The toast was great to taste more of the sauce. The mussels tasted fresh. I would actually recommend sharing this dish. It is a lot of one item. One or two small knocks on this place was every song seemed to be the hits of 1985-1995. You can pay online, which was a positive, especially as our waiter didn't come back to ever give us the check. They did have a mix of inside and outside tables though. Went to River Roast for the first time and I really like the laid back vibe of the restaurant. Looks like there was an event going on so it took us a long time to get our food, however the staff were accommodating to make sure we got all our dishes. I highly recommend the burrata. It does have ham on the side. The cheese was delicious on toasted sourdough and comes with greens as well. The mac and cheese was good but I wish it was more creamy as all the sauce was at the bottom and the top had dried. The salad was alright - I do love beets! The half chicken was really juicy and had delicious potatoes at the bottom. I wish the potatoes weren't all different varying saltiness because it seems that the different potatoes soaked up the saltiness from the chicken and were left burnt in some spaces. read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant while my sister and I were exploring Chicago we had an amazing lunch. We got to meet one of the waiters which was a true delight. Truthfully it was an amazing meal and also had some great conversation made us feel like we were talking to our dad. The food was great and the cocktails were also top tier. The place was so nice and everyone was so friendly making us feel welcomed we are definitely coming back. We had our company holiday party here in the lower level event space. Huge space with great river views. We had just under 150 people with 2 bars and a PA system and mic set up. Table staging was a nice, bar service and wait staff was excellent. They were good assisting with transitioning parts of the lunch. All the dishes had great presentations and array of options. I had the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. Great holiday event experience. Even in the winter the rooms provided great views of the river and city. Highly recommend! read more

With the name "River Roast," you'd think you could sit on the patio by the river- no, under construction. Stayed for dinner anyway. Very limited vegetarian options. I had a side of mac n cheese as my meal, which was a generous portion and satisfying. Very delicious and well prepared. My man got the burger. It comes with bbq chips and fries were a $5 upcharge, which we found absurd, especially since they were similar to McDonald's. Be warned their coke products are hot cans, served with a glass of ice. Came to river roast for Sunday brunch and it was great! I am often skeptical of river places being all for the vibes and the food not meeting up to it, but I was pleasantly surprised. The menu is pretty standard brunch options, but good quality and something for everyone. I got the seasonal omelette which had some Italian meats and veggies in it; it was a bit too salty but very flavorful! My friends got the avocado toast and the eggs Benedict which both looked delicious. I think if I come back, I would get the avocado toast. I also loved that the coffee was served in glass mugs. The service was great and the people were kind! They even brought us out ice cream for my friend's birthday! I'd love to come back during the summer specifically for the patio. read more

Went for brunch and ordered the skillet it came out with a virtually uncooked egg on it so I asked for the eggs to be cooked a little more. 25 minutes later out came a new skillet with the same level of cooked eggs without the peppers, onions, and bacon that were supposed to come with it. We were in Chicago for our little fall trip, so I was looking for good places to have a little date night by the Riverwalk, and this was perfect, everything was on point, without any doubt one of the best restaurants I tried in Chicago. We tried to sit outside but it was a chilly outside so they had their patio closed but i bet it's a great experience to sit there too. I had a glass of Pinot Noir and we got some very good apps, as the octopus and the burrata, both were incredibly delicious. I'm a burrata fan and this was one of the best I've had in a long time, I highly recommend to get it. Then we moved to our main entrees and they were EXCELLENT. Our waiter recommend the roasted chicken and was out of this world, he was so right, also he was very attentive and nice to us. We also tried the lamb which was very good but a little to pricey. Now they split up our table, otherwise we had to wait for an hour. This is ridiculous. Why have reservations? Then come up with an excuse they are overbooked.
