The employee who delivered our kayak to the boat ramp in Sunset Beach was super friendly. He arrived right on time, and gave us some advice about where we should go. I also had a good experience, talking with him on the phone to arrange this kind of drop off and pick up, for just one day. My friend and I rented a tandem kayak, which was the reasonable option. Who knew you could stay in a treehouse on a secluded island right here in Horry County? We spent 4 nights on the Island and the River Island Adventures team was great! All you need to bring is food and clothes, but make sure you pack light, especially if the water level is low. Normally the pontoon boat would take you right up to the treehouse. Unfortunately we hadn't seen rain in a while, so we had to walk our things a little ways, but the team was there to help. They made sure we had kayaks for the whole group and all our supplies were taken care of and restocked on a daily basis as needed. read more

Best. Experience. Ever! We did the original Escape River Island challenge. I can't even begin to explain how great of an experience we had. You start out by leisurely kayaking 1/2 mile down a river. They have double and single open kayaks. You do step in the water to get in, so wear appropriate shoes! When you get to the wooded challenge location, the guide gives you directions and tells you what to expect. Our team of three were the only ones competing so we were racing against the clock rather than other teams. We completed six different challenges (some physical, some mental). It definitely gave off escape room/Survivor/MTV The Challenge vibes. The owner Jeff and our guide Noah were both very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the overall experience. After unlocking our kayaks in the last challenge, it was a kayak race back to the finish line! My only complaint is they don't have a second challenge that we could sign up and do tomorrow! So so fun. Couldn't recommend more. read more

What a great organization! A family reunion with 22 people from 13 to 71. Could try to explain our first try let's just say the weather was dangerous with severe lightning and heavy rain for over 2 hours. Jeff (owner) was extremely accommodating and we rescheduled. The team of employees were so concerned for our safety. Fast forward to our Survivor experience WOW!!! Everyone had a blast!! Our group diminished to 12 participants 6 teams of 2. Staff were super nice but when we got there, what was offered wasn't what we paid for. We booked a 2 hour guided river kayak tour at 2:30p thru Expedia. When we got there we were told we have a half day pass and the guided tour was only done in the morning. It was very disappointing to go out on the kayaks on our own. Not being local, it would have been nice to learn about the history of the area or local information from the guide. Even tho we could have hung around the rest of the day, we only had planned the kayaking portion of the camp so that's all we did. The river was super low due to drought conditions, but we did see turtles, fish and clams. We spent 2 hours on the river, going in a loop so no worries about getting lost lol. All in all a fun experience, just not what we expected when we booked. read more

We chose the 2 hour kayak guided tour with Liv our guide who couldn't be nicer, she made the adventure wonderful. My wife had a bad previous kayak tour with poor instructions and Liv fixed that in 5 minutes so my wife was paddling straight and effortlessly. They do a wonderful job but Liv is the glue. We celebrated our 30th anniversary with a kayak trip. Liv was an amazing, informative and attentive tour guide. I was nervous going in a kayak alone as my first kayak experience did not go well. This was a great adventure and nice day away from the beach. Staff is fun, helpful and turned a cool cloudy day at the beach into one of the best vacation days. It is a mix of The Great Race, Survivor and an escape room. Nothing too hard but not too easy either. We left with two thoughts. One was we wish we could do it again and try for a better race time. My girlfriend and I did the Escape River Island portion and it was a fun experience overall. The challenges were fun and the kayaking at the beginning and end were a nice change of pace. The biggest complaint that I have would have to be the price. When you sign up, you hope for at least one other couple to challenge but in our case, it was just us racing against a clock. I was thinking that it was implied that there would be at least one other couple, otherwise, the event would be changed to another time or canceled because I think that was the primary reason we chose to go. I think that even though it had neat challenges, the lack of any real opponents left the experience a bit lacking especially for $50 per person. If anything, charge less if there is just one couple anticipated to go or maybe throw in some beers at the end at least! read more

First of all.... Wow! If you're ever down in Myrtle beach this is a must. Me and my crew kayaked down the river and back. Super fun, even with the fact we got rained on. They offer so much here, tubes, kayaks, paddle boards. I could make trips here for the rest of my life and enjoy it every time! The staff was super personable and kind. Not to mention the adorable dog they have whose name is Queso (how cute!) I would give an extra star for Queso if I could. read more

Today is the second time I came with my family. My daughter and I did a guided kayaking tour two years ago and enjoyed it so much. Today we did the paddle boarding on the river. My wife got the island escape for our anniversary on 08/26/2020. The water on the river was very high at about 7 feet above normal which made things a little more challenging but not impossible. The island escape is a cross of an escape room and Survivor type puzzles and challenges. You will get wet and muddy! We waded through water above knee deep where there is usually dry land. I brought an old pair of shoes and was happy to throw them away. There were a few areas were a better explanation and a few more checks by the staff would make things work better but overall it was a lot of fun. They also have tubing, kayaks and glamming on site. It about 40 minutes from Myrtle beach in the country. This has great potential to expand and the owner has great plans ahead. This is a great team building experience. I am 55 and this was challenging but not too tough. A pair of 25 year olds just managed to beat us! read more

Highly recommend! Purchased a half day pass and packed a cooler after reading other reviews. We ended up using the kayaks the whole time (you have the options of kayaks, tubing and paddle boarding) and paddled up river and on the float back enjoyed our lunch. It was a beautiful day! Water was still a little chilly (early April) but not unbearable. Staff was super friendly. If time allows on our trip, we will likely be coming back. We even stayed after our half day and played a few games and just enjoyed the camp ground. read more

Amazing day spent floating, kayaking, paddleboarding and chillin'! 4 adults and 4 kids between the ages of 9 and 12 had the most perfect day doing a little bit of everything at the river.
