What a GREAT experience kayaking the Waccamaw River with our tour guide Nick! The river was really low because it hasn't rained in a while, so it was truly an adventure getting past some of the tough spots but we worked as a team and got through it. Nick was great! I can't say it enough. One tip, freeze a few bottles of water the night before because it is hot out on the river and my water got warm real quick. Also, one of the best parts was meeting the office dog Aries! Such a sweetheart. Make sure to give him lots of belly rubs. read more

We went on the evening tour and had a marvelous time. The guides were informational and professional. Even with a pop up rain shower they kept us moving and on track. They are the real deal, so professional, and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to everything kayaking and the places you kayak. We hit some stormy weather while we were out so we wanted to cut our tour 10 minutes short and Justin knew exact places he could take us in order to get us out of the marsh quickly and safely and Laurie came to drive us back to where we parked. They are so professional at what they do and we were glad we chose them because it could have been a dangerous situation if we were with guides who weren't equipped to handle any situation that could arise. We also loved that Justin was genuine, it was like kayaking with a good friend, he took some awesome pictures of us (that he airdropped to us for free, some companies charge for this!) and told us all about the different birds in the marsh (we love learning about all the eco stuff and he knew so much about the marsh so we picked his brain, I am sure if you want to just relax and kayak without talking so much you could do that too, its really whatever you want to make of it!). Also this is the perfect guided tour if you are a beginner or have never kayaked before. There is a boat launch so it was super easy to get in and out of the water. My husband and I rented kayaks on murrell's inlet (a different marsh further south) a few days later and the only way you could get in or out of your kayak there was on a dock, this is much more difficult, especially if you've never kayaked before. I add that detail just to emphasize even more why J and L stand out above the rest, you won't have to worry about anything with them even if its your first time. Even though the weather turned sour quick on us kayaking with them was one of the highlights of our trip and we cannot wait to return and see them again. Thanks Justin and Laurie!! read more

Amazing time on the Waties Island expedition tour. I booked last minute on this tour and Laurie was great at explaining all of the different options. Our tour guide Patrick was also amazing. He had lots of fun facts about the area and the ocean. We paddled through the winding marsh area to get to the island, through some waves, and arrived at Waties island. We explored the island and saw fish, a jellyfish, birds, tons of shells and also crabs. This was my first time crabbing and it was quite interesting and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend kayaking or paddle boarding with this company! read more

Our family just took the kayak tour on the Waccamaw river near Myrtle Beach, SC. It was fantastic and educational. Justin, our guide, is an experienced kayaker and a great teacher. Awesome adventure! Did the twilight kayaking adventure with the family (kids 10,12). It goes from 6:30-9:30sh. Never kayaked before so we were a little apprehensive about kayaking at night our first time out - But I am so glad we did. We got a quick lesson on what to do and what not to do. Pretty straightforward. Kayaked an little under an hour to a nature preserve island and got to explore during sunset! It was low tide so the kids were able run all over the place in search of shells and sea creatures. The views during the sunset were beautiful!! It was so peaceful! After about 45 minutes the guide showed us his treasure (including some fun fact info on shells and such & a leg less lizard.....aka looked like a snake to me;), handed out glow sticks and we were headed home. It was dark but pretty cool. If you are in the area I highly recommend this trip. I will be back! read more

Amazing Waties Island Shelling tour! We had Patrick as guide and he was awesome! He was great with my two girls (he even played in the sand with them). They loved it and we couldn't be more pleased. I would definitely recommend to any family. My wife and I got two tandem kayaks once with each kid (ages 5 and 7) and were able to manage just fine for the trip to the island. This was money well spent and one of the highlights of our family's trip to Myrtle Beach. Our family of four, kids ages 6 and 7, took the island tour led by Austin. Our family spent the morning on the 2 hour Cherry Grove Scenic Backwater tour, and it was perfect. We had 2 kids under 6 with us (in tandems with their parents) and one anxious kayaking newbie. We recently booked the 4 hour expedition out of Cherry Grove. This was our first kayak tour in many years. We were three adults, and joined by another group of three adults, which made seven including the tour guide. The booking process was a breeze, which we did via phone. Check in, at J&Ls shop in Little River only took a few minutes, which was followed by a short drive to the Cherry Grove boat launch. The map provided, to get us from the check in to the boat launch, was crystal clear. Maybe a ten minute drive. Our guide was wonderful. She started with a brief safety chat, then an overview of what we were going to do and see. We were in the water and paddling before we knew it. We paddled through the marshy area, out of the boat traffic, meandering our way to the island, with our guide pointing out interesting things along the way. Once we arrived at the island, we walked and talked for about an hour (we were in no rush, so any time reference is relative). The way back to the launch point was a cut across the inlet, but out of the main current, past the bay front homes and small fishing boats. Overall, the experience was outstanding. I would rate the effort as medium. We paddled for a couple hours; about an hour out and a little less than an hour back. I recommend that you apply sunscreen before you get in the kayak, then again before you head back from the island, as the water will magnify the intensity of the sun. The guide will bring water, but bring some for each person in your party. No meals are provided, but they really are not necessary. We headed to Joe's Burgers in North Myrtle Beach afterwards, as we really worked up an appetite. This is one of the best values and experiences in the Grand Strand. read more

Our tour guide Justin was a nice guy, he was very knowledgable about the wild life but his photography skills were far below average. Also his humor was not really catching on with the rest of the group. On the way back we kayaked through a wet land and that was very neat. Seriously from start of the process to the end of the tour, this company was one of the BEST overall I've ever worked with, across the board for all adventure things I've booked and done! Laurie was beyond accommodating, working with me personally on scheduling and dates to make sure we had a stellar experience. The booking online was so easy and no hassle at all! Instructions are clear, detailed and reminders are sent! Then, you meet at the outpost for paperwork and a few details before an easy and very clearly mapped drive to the docks! Dano was our guide for the kayak and Waites Island tour...he was patient and kind (dad's first time ever in a kayak) and helpful and incredibly knowledgable of ANY AND ALL ocean questions...he was outstanding. The tour was perfect with a good amount of paddling but at a relaxed and comfortable pace and with tons of info and fun facts scattered about. Waites island was gorgeous and the shells are so cool!! This was an all around, 100% awesome experience! I will for sure be back!! My daughter and I did a 2 hour tour of Cheery Grove Marshes. Our guide was Dano! He was excellent. Explained everything for us rookies before we started. He was EXTREMEMLY knowledgeable about the marshes. The only real tricky part was getting off the boat launch out into the water. After that it was smooth paddling! There were a total of 6 of us that went out that day and only 1 person who ever went on a Kayak before. It cost $80 for the two of us and Dano carried a cooler with him if you wanted water! I highly recommend if you have the desire to try Kayaking! Fun way to spend 2 hours. Dano was GREAT! read more

We booked the two hour paddle boarding tour and it was fantastic. We booked online the day before and it was super easy. My boyfriend and I got lucky and had a really small group, only one other person, so the tour was really personalized. Our guide, Patrick, took us all the way down to the bridge and on the way described wildlife and the area around us. Once at the bridge we took the chance to sit down on our boards, relax, and take some pictures. The route back to the start was a little harder since it was against the current, but I enjoyed it because I'm sure I got a great work out! I hope to come back and paddle board here the next time I'm in Myrtle Beach. read more

Save your money. The Waties Island trip was a waste of good money. Not enough paddling and nothing to do there.

We booked the 2hr kayaking tour for the 4 of us. Getting to the place was interesting. You have to go down a long sandy road. No big deal but some additional signage would help first timers. We met Bradley outside the house/ office. He was very nice, invited us in and offered us some free drinks. We learned about him and the company while we relaxed on their leather couches. He then took us and 2 additional kayakers to the launch site just a minute away. After our safety instruction he helped us all get in the kayaks and water. We took off right through some marsh grass. We werent sure if he was crazy or not but it was alot of fun and easier then we expected. He took us around and educated us at various points during the trip. I would say it was fun and relaxing , not strenuous. We would have liked to do the waites island tour but the times didnt fit our schedule. We plan to use this company again next year for a different kayak or paddleboarding tour. read more
