You start out by leisurely kayaking 1/2 mile down a river. They have double and single open kayaks. You do step in the water to get in, so wear appropriate shoes! When you get to the wooded challenge location, the guide gives you directions and tells you what to expect. Our team of three were the only ones competing so we were racing against the clock rather than other teams. We completed six different challenges (some physical, some mental). It definitely gave off escape room/Survivor/MTV The Challenge vibes. The owner Jeff and our guide Noah were both very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the overall experience. After unlocking our kayaks in the last challenge, it was a kayak race back to the finish line! My only complaint is they don't have a second challenge that we could sign up and do tomorrow! The electric bikes that we rented were absolutely perfect for the windy day that we were riding. We were able to ride at the shore of the beach and explore neighborhoods of South Carolina. If one needs to feel more active, keep the speed at 1 but if you want more cruising, keep the speed at 5. This was perfect. The wind would have deterred us but the electric bike and Van Rowell came through. Rent these bikes from here. You won't be sorry.

Being the busiest weekend of the year for them we were able to get her the gear she needed. Thinking they were out of helmets the manager hunted several places in the store to find a helmet that fit my daughter correctly. While paying for the rental we met the owner who gave us invaluable advice about the 3 ski resorts we intended to visit for the first time. We're so grateful for that advice because it put us at the best resort for our family and our first experience turned out even better than we ever expected! We always ask for our guide, Chris, as he is super friendly and knowledgeable. I always feel safe as he looks out for the group, but there is plenty of time to zoom around on your own, too. My favorite part last year was coming up on a pod of dolphins near a shrimp boat. There had to be at least 15 of them (even a baby)! They were close enough you could have touched them. Did lessons twice in a semi-private group 2-3 per instructor which I thought was the perfect amount…read moreof attention for first timers. Easy online booking. Next time, I would also supplement with surfboard rental for $10/hour or $30 per day to practice in between lessons. Season ends labor day so if you're interested in lessons after this, would recommend calling. Recommend coming during the week as the beaches are less busy. The surf lesson hut is right at the edge of the beach and the parking lot near the hotel's water park area. Check in and signing waivers are at the surf shack. Open cubbies (not secure) to leave towels, sandals, small ice cooler etc behind the shack. Outdoor open shower for general use to rinse off afterwards located behind the shack on the way to the beach also. Parking: Booking instructions say that there is a white 2-story parking structure across the street (unknown cost) as I did free street parking.

The owner, and tour guide, Kay Lynn was great. Very knowledgeable about the ecosystems and the river. We selected the Eagles Island kayak tour. Kay Lynn made it very easy for us. Supplied everything we needed, outside of water (note, do not bring plastic bottles). We had a blast. I would highly recommend WOA. Kay Lynn has three main tours, Eagles Island, Masonboro Island and Greenfield Lake. You can book and pay for a tour using the WOA website. I highly recommend WOA.

We saw several birds native to the area, including an anhinga and several egrets. We also saw two alligators!! I felt completely safe the entire tour.
