Next time, I would also supplement with surfboard rental for $10/hour or $30 per day to practice in between lessons. Season ends labor day so if you're interested in lessons after this, would recommend calling. Recommend coming during the week as the beaches are less busy. The surf lesson hut is right at the edge of the beach and the parking lot near the hotel's water park area. Check in and signing waivers are at the surf shack. Open cubbies (not secure) to leave towels, sandals, small ice cooler etc behind the shack. Outdoor open shower for general use to rinse off afterwards located behind the shack on the way to the beach also. Parking: Booking instructions say that there is a white 2-story parking structure across the street (unknown cost) as I did free street parking.

The best things for me as the parent were 1) the price and 2) the flexibility. $10/ hr can't be beat. And for novice surfers, the fact that they could try and then come back and switch boards if needed took a lot of stress off of us to pick the perfect size or shape. Very happy we chose Jack's. *note that driving directions took us to a different business parking lot. Jack's is a kiosk in the parking lot in front of the pier.

Two summers ago, I took my first surfing lesson, but despite working with three different…read moreinstructors since then, I felt like a "sock in a dryer" struggling to catch a wave. Determined to make this summer different, I booked a hotel in Myrtle Beach and sought out surf lessons. When I stumbled upon nativesurflessons.com, something magical happened. As I explored the website, particularly the Meet The Instructor section on the About page, I felt an immediate connection with Chris, the instructor. His passion for surfing and genuine care for people shone through, making it clear that this was the right place for me. The warm greeting I received from his wife when I called to book my session was a wonderful taste of the famed "Southern Hospitality." And, let's be real, I didn't experience a literal beam of light descending from the heavens with a choir singing "Hallelujah," but that's exactly what it felt like when I read about Chris's dedication on the website. You know, that moment when everything just clicks, and you're like, "Yes, this is it!" When I arrived at Cherry Grove Pier, meeting Chris reaffirmed my decision. His welcoming presence and the sense of camaraderie in the air assured me that I was in good hands. Now, you might be wondering, "How was the lesson?" After three prior lessons with different instructors, I was a bit skeptical about whether I could truly grasp surfing. However, Chris proved to be one of the best instructors I've encountered, whether online or in person. His explanations of surfing, especially about the crucial pop-up technique and proper surfing stance, were unparalleled. Once we hit the water, he quickly assessed my skills and guided me with precision. In just a short time, he provided a few key tips that transformed my surfing experience. By the end of the lesson, I was catching my own waves--a milestone I hadn't anticipated reaching so quickly. Some may say it takes three lessons to surf, but in my case, it was about finding the right instructor. Chris at Native Surf Lessons has the knack for making dreams come true. Don't let age hold you back; I'm 52, and I've seen surfers in their 70s and 80s riding the waves in New Hampshire. As I write this review the day after, I'm still riding high, with the memory of yesterday's incredible experience etched in my mind. If you're considering whether Native Surf Lessons is the right place for you to learn, let me assure you, it absolutely is. I still remember him giving me the Shaka, going: "Yeah, Brother!!!" It was like I instantly became part of the surfing tribe. Don't hesitate; pick up the phone and call Native Surf Lessons to embark on an unforgettable surfing journey of your own!

Their instruction got us catching our own waves by the end of the 2-hour lesson. Good guys (Chris, the owner, and his assistant Evan), hood tips and tons of fun. I'd do it again tomorrow.

Onto my review...we enjoyed a girls' weekend at MB Resort (Renaissance Tower-excellent rental!) and went down early to rent an umbrella/chairs. We not only received excellent customer service from Lack's but kindness & patience. I believe Brad? was working that day and didn't waste any time or effort in setting up equipment to prepare for the day. As he had time, he worked with us to get a good location to soak up the sun. We paid only $40 for an umbrella & 3 chairs for one day, which is a reasonable rate compared to other beaches we've visited. Think about it...are you gonna buy your own chairs/umbrella and haul it home on a plane? Stuff it on top of your car? Throughout the day, he'd walk by and check in with us. As well, he was busy talking with beach-goers as he walked the beach - and yes, he was watching the swimmers in the ocean. Of course, he's easy on the eyes, so we were probably watching him way more than we should have, but hey - it was a girls weekend and we're all single. When we were in the last half-hour or so of our day, I was snapping some pics of him to add to our weekend memories and he indulged me by posing for a few. (such a cutie!) Everything about that day only added to our relaxing, much-needed, break from life. Sometimes, indulging a few dollars on a nice wooden beach chair and heavy umbrella is worth it when you just need to take care of you. Flirting with the life guard, well....that's a bonus! :)

To make even worse not only were our chairs taken down they were thrown down along with our neighbors. This is the 2nd time this happened and decided to share my frustration. Rather than receiving an apology they cite the law and rules. Lack's manager displayed zero customer service. Just a heads up for you. Next time 1. apologize and kindly share the rules. 2. consider marking your area to avoid having others setting up chairs/umbrella in your designated area and 3. Post the rules so we are all aware of them before starting the game. I will never recommend your service. Good thing you are locked in with the city otherwise you would fail! Shame on you City of Myrtle beach for giving this fowl company a contract.
