This is a completely up and down service. First day we rented was okay; the attendants did a middling job kicking out non-payers. Second day was a complete sh*t-show. We pay good money to rent these chairs, yet the family next to us just plopped down and attendants said nothing. Then we do complain, repeatedly, because a group of people put up two umbrella between our chairs and the next set of chairs, was smoking, and just blasting Spanish music. Attendant comes over, tells them they can't sit here, Spanish guys act like they don't understand. Attendant walks away. We go complain again, same result. So now we have decided to leave the beach because the smoking and loud music has completely ruined our beach time. Had we known that we didn't have to pay, we wouldn't have. Next year I'll just bring my own chair and create my own spot in their umbrella line.

The manager that said doesn't matter if the dog dies

My dog got hit by one of the drivers had to take him to the vet emergency. The driver did not help, and then my sister the next morning went to their office to see if we could get some Assistance because my dog is in critical condition. and the Manager of this establishment said that, even if the dog dies, it doesn't matter. I have a put pictures of the Manager, and girl that ran over my dog. I just hope and pray that this doesn't happen to anyone else. This could've been a child

Rented 2 chairs and an umbrella in front of the doubletree Myrtle beach. The attendant (Chris) was super nice and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

Lifeguarding at its finest! Clock strikes 10 and it's nap time for everyone! So sleepy!

Early morning In front of the Marriott

Always a consistently great experience with Lacks in front of the Marriott. Lifeguards are competent, attentive to swimmers, and personable. I rent chairs/umbrella for the week and it's very convenient. I don't have to haul all my own set up, Lacks is a big reason why I stay at the Marriott so often. However, I do see see a lot of rude and demanding guests ignoring the lifeguards calls to come in closer when guests stray too far out in the ocean, ignoring the lifeguard's dangerous condition flags and then act put out when they get in trouble. Mind the beach rules and you'll have a great, safe time. For a public beach, I've always felt very safe there. Been staying there every summer for 10 years.

They act like they own this public beach. Charging 35$ for umbrella is crazy. No wonder why your chairs are always empty.

Next time, I would also supplement with surfboard rental for $10/hour or $30 per day to practice in between lessons. Season ends labor day so if you're interested in lessons after this, would recommend calling. Recommend coming during the week as the beaches are less busy. The surf lesson hut is right at the edge of the beach and the parking lot near the hotel's water park area. Check in and signing waivers are at the surf shack. Open cubbies (not secure) to leave towels, sandals, small ice cooler etc behind the shack. Outdoor open shower for general use to rinse off afterwards located behind the shack on the way to the beach also. Parking: Booking instructions say that there is a white 2-story parking structure across the street (unknown cost) as I did free street parking.

The machine only takes $1, $5, or $10 in cash and does not return any change. The rate is $3 an hour and you then get a ticket to place in your dash. I did actually learn from an out of towner that there is an app that can be downloaded called Passport Parking. It offers a discounted rate, but is still $2.50 an hour. I think the rate is a deterrent IMO, but I guess the city of Folly Beach has to generate revenue somehow. At high tide, there is not a lot of beach area, but after the renourishments, there is some beach at least. Do not climb across the rocks! Use the crosswalks instead and save the sea oats...the few that still exist. Also, do not litter! There are trash receptacles scattered along the beach, usually at crosswalks, but pack your stuff in and out like an adult. This location is locally named for the strong currents and the fact that the narrow land has actually been washed out. After Hurricane Hugo, a lot of effort went into re-creating the road and beach that exists today. It was completely washed through to the River with a drop off of probably 20-30 feet where the road should have been. The name was used way prior to Hugo, but that event just embodies the vulnerability of the area and the potential impact of the wonderful surf/waves that we all love. Pura Vida!

It's one young guy (Eric) with a painted van. So if something goes wrong you have no recourse beyond him, and a Yelp review, such as this. Also, you have to pay in advance so you can't hold anything back if you are dissatisfied. We signed up for lessons, but the day of the lesson there was no wind. Eric encouraged us to come out anyhow saying the wind might change. It didn't. He taught my kids to set up the kite on the beach and spent about 10 minutes flying it from the beach. Then called it a day. Tried again that week, same thing. So my 3 kids never even touched the water yet he charged us $600! He said there are NO refunds but that we could use it to buy merchandise in the store. Well, come to find out there is NO store. We got nothing in return. I tried to fight it but he said we got a "land lesson". Omg. $600 for something totally worthless. I would not hire Eric unless you have a lot of money to potentially waste. I'm thinking those other reviews were all written by Eric's family and friends. :/ Disappointed in NC
