I've been a patron for years. Recently the quality of the products has dropped. I bought 2 hoodies that started to fall apart after one wear. $65 sweatshirts. I called and let one of the employees know. He said the owner would call back and make it right. I never got a phone call. I returned today to show them the sweatshirts. The thread was coming out of the sleeves. The cashier told me they were falling apart around the collar too. I spoke to that same cashier and she told me to wait for the owner and to look around. She went on to show another customer every hanging t-shirt in the shop. I approached her a second time and asked if I could just talk to the owner who was standing right there. She explained the dilemma and he looked at me and said "we don't carry that anymore". I said ok I was told I'd get a call back. I spend money in here all the time. I want you to see your product. He then said "do you want me to send you one when they come in?" You're gonna send me a hoody that you're no longer keeping in stock? I said, no thank you I am not trying to reinvent the wheel here but you should know what your product looks like. Ripped after one wear. The owner is not interested in making it right. Make your own judgement as to whether or not you want to spend your money here. I'm good. read more

We have passed this store for years without stopping, but we finally decided to stop in. Village Surf Shoppe is a small local shop with mainly clothing and surf equipment. It's actually bigger than I expected when we went in. The employees were friendly. The clothing seemed to be higher quality than you can get at chain stores. This place has surely had a long shelf life since it's founding in 1969. I've been visiting it yearly since 1975 as my family has had a place in nearby Pirate's Cove since then. Though it has gone through many manifestations, states of cleanliness (haha) and at one point was not super clean--I will attest that the shop is presently the cleanest, diverse and well kept I've ever seen it. The shop is brighter, more open, all spaces clean and uncluttered; plus, a wider array of apparel snd goods for women. As always, I do wish they had some better prices, yet, you are paying for unique and one of a kind stuff here. Not to mention, one of the best places for your board buying and rental needs on The Grand Strand. Check it out. Well worth a look off the beaten path (just watch out for congested traffic on Atlantic Ave). read more

During the height of this pandemic, it's disappointing to not see anyone working here wearing a face mask. It's mandated by the county, but the kids working here (and the owner) feel its unnecessary. It's just so irresponsible when it's such an easy thing to do: wear a mask. How hard is that? It made me feel unsafe when I was inside. It's a shame because it's a great shop and I always prefer to shop local. Hate to say it but shopping here is not recommended. read more

This place brings back memories for me when I was in high school. I used to skateboard a lot and surfed a little. Loved coming here to get gear i.e. shirts, shorts, stickers for my car. Used to meet up with a lot of friends here who lived in Garden City to hang out for the weekend. Glad to see this place still alive and kicking. Great service, great people. read more

This shop is the best. I took a surf lesson from Mitch and he was extremely patient and knowledgeable. The waves were "dumpy" but he still managed to find some for me to learn on. By the end of the 1 1/2 hour Lesson I was popping up and riding the waves into the shore. Money well spent and speaking of money it was only $55 for the Lesson including a board. read more

These folks are the greatest! Very helpful with selections of boards. They have a very good selection of skate boards, boogie boards, surf boards, etc. Great selections of shoes shirts and the staff is great. Very skilled at teaching kids to surf or paddle board. read more

Wonderful little shop! My 10 year old daughter and 12 year old son took surf lessons with Kelly. He was wonderful with the kids. Had them up and surfing right away. The kids loved it so much we signed up for a second day. read more

Greg and Kelly are amazing! They were very patient with my kids while teaching them to paddle board, focusing on safety and providing a great tour on nice, calm waters.
