On this visit, the service felt scattered and slow. We waited about 45 minutes from ordering until we received our food, and even then, the plates came out with an 8-10 minute gap between them. When the food did arrive, it wasn't hot. The portion sizes also seem to have changed significantly. The American chicken portion was surprisingly small--similar to what you might expect from a kids' meal. What made the experience stand out even more was that we had recently eaten at Olio in Bayport at a similar price point. The difference in service, portion size, attention to detail, and having food arrive fresh and hot was pretty noticeable. I've always had a soft spot for this place, so I genuinely wonder if there has been a change in ownership or management. I've kept coming back hoping our previous experiences were just an off night, but after several disappointing visits, I think I finally have to put a fork in it. My pictures and memories tell a different story....

After a long day on the golf course, we headed to River Inn for a delicious meal. We started with a large, 24-ounce pistachio cream ale - it was fantastic! Then, I dove into the spicy pork nachos. The spice level was manageable, maybe a 2/5 on the heat scale. What truly impressed me was the layering - each bite had a perfect amount of cheese throughout. The sweet barbecue sauce wasn't our favorite, but it was a minor detail compared to the overall experience. These were still some of the best nachos I've had in a long time. 4.5/5 For my entree, I opted for grandma's prime rib. Being pleasantly full from the nachos and beer, I only managed to finish about a third, but it was phenomenal. This is easily one of the best prime ribs in Minnesota! It was cooked perfectly, incredibly flavorful, and had a nice char. My only suggestion would be to include vegetables alongside a potato for a more traditional presentation. I ended up ordering french fries on the side. 4.7/5 Overall, River Inn was a great choice for a post-golf outing. The food was delicious, and the service was friendly. read more

I read many of the bad reviews and have only this suggestion. STAY HOME, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, COOK FOR YOURSELF. Some people just can't be pleased. When rating a restaurant there are categories like food, price, atmosphere, menu and service to determine. A testament to each category is customers will wait 30-45 minutes day after day and night after night to dine at the River Inn. Someone once said "if you haven't eaten at the River Inn, you haven't eaten!" The staff is by far the best we have ever experienced in dining out. Their are very friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and want to make you happy. These characteristics start with the hosts who are very hands on Owners. We have friends and family visit often, sometimes from a long distance. Once they have dined at the River Inn, they don't want to go anywhere else........they all love the experience! I've been to the River Inn a couple of times, and while it's a large pub with plenty of food and drink options, everything is just OK--not bad, but definitely not great. The pub food is decent if you're not expecting much in terms of quality. One server I had was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and really made the experience better. Unfortunately, the other server I encountered was the exact opposite--rude and completely uninterested in providing good service. Overall, it seems like a good spot if you're with a group looking to hang out and grab drinks, but if you're after high-quality food or consistent service, you might want to look elsewhere. read more

My wife is a Managing Partner, and I am a Regional Director for a very high volume restaurant concept. This is our and our 6 year old daughter's favorite restaurant to patronize regularly. We love the people, the food, the atmosphere, and the way we are treated each time we dine here. Obviously I wish it weren't so busy, but you can't fault a business for being so successful and consistent. Last night my group of 9 celebrated my son's 34th birthday at the River Inn. The Grandma Ruth's prime rib is our favorite & was outstanding last night. Our party also had two chicken entrees, a french dip & chicken caesar salad. The service was over the top & the food delicious. We enjoyed passing around a large ice cream/brownie dessert to top it off. Reasonable pricing, plan to wait to be seated. but worth it. Two words: go there. read more

Always busy.... however great food, great cocktails. An attractive old building, with indoor, outdoor, and screened porch seating. Jodi and most of the staff are amazing, and did I mention the blueberry mojito, fabulous. Our favorite starters are the River bites, and then....Big brother Rick's pizza, meatloaf sandwich, walleye sandwich or prime rib are our go to's. I highly recommend The River Inn! read more

The BEST restaurant in a hundred mile radius! Ribs, Prime Rib, Rib Eye Steak, Pizzas, Burgers, Shrimp, Pasta, it's ALL good. The staff can't be beat and the owners, Rick and Jodi are the BEST! Just a couple of hints: 1) If you're going on Rib Nights, call ahead and reserve a rack because they go fast, 2) If you order a cocktail, ask for a Frank size. We went in 11/17 for my wife's birthday and the staff was Incredible. Have been there many times the food is fantastic and the management is top of the line, had a less than ideal situation come up with the table next to us and they made us feel so welcomed and at ease. That is when we saw the $1.00 charge for 1 piece 3/8" bread and the $1.00 for cranberry mule. Talk about nickel and diming. We would love to go back but unsure if I can get past some of these things. Also, now looking at the bill even closer, none of us had a mimosa and we were charged $8.95 for one.How did we miss that? All added up we paid $16.00 more than we should have. CRAZY!!
