Dined here early in a large party on a Saturday night and it was quite good. The restaurant has a great location right on the St Clair River with big windows showing the view. The restaurant is large, but with dark wood and low lighting it has a reasonably cozy feel. The menu is mostly fish, but with some non seafood items. Our server was excellent, charming, funny and efficient. As a group we had a wide variety of mostly seafood items, with a chicken and a steak dish to boot. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We also had mixed drinks and wine and they were also good. We also had several desserts. Very enjoyable. read more

Sloooow. And rude. We came on a Tuesday for lunch, we both have never been and the place is so pretty and cozy. We sat down at 12pm, at 1:20pm we left as we only got 2 rounds of drinks and a crab cake (we originally ordered that, a salad and fish & chips). Can't say much about food as we never really got a chance to taste it. The crab cake was tiny for $20, but I can live with that, it was good. Heather-the-waitress had an attitude when we asked for the ETA on our food after waiting for an hour. And that was the major bummer. Just give us heads up that we would need to wait for food - not all of the customers are retired people at this restaurant, some of us still need to go places lol. A table next to us who sat down around 12:45 got HOT apps rt away. Lol. So confusing. I guess life is slow here. Put in 2-3 hours if you want to come for lunch, I can only imagine how it is for dinner. read more

I spent dozens of evenings in the River Crab in the past, but this was the first visit in a number of years. Unfortunately, and fortunately, the place was nearly empty due to the fact that it was a Sunday evening. Fortunate in the fact that there was no wait for cocktails or food, unfortunate, as the crowd always adds to the ambience there. Chris, the bartender, is a nice young man who works hard to make the experience a good one. Martha, the manager, has always had a high-level of customer service and satisfaction to her credit. Our waitress, Haley, did a nice job. Also had an opportunity to run into a great old friend there and reconnect. It was my dates birthday, and they brought a crème brûlée to the table with a candle in it. Very tasty and a very special touch to her evening. I had the spicy calamari which, although I appreciated the creativity of the dish, the sauce and veggies were a bit too heavy for my taste. I've always loved calamari there. The dynamite scallops were tasty, although very small... A quarter size of the typical scallop that you would receive in a restaurant. read more

One of the best seafood meals we've had in years. delish drinks. Fair pricing. The entire table of 4 were pleased with their meals: my dad: New England clam chowder and lobster dinner; my Mom: blackened salmon summer salad; my husband: ORA KING SALMON dinner and myself: alaskan halibut dinner. We went out to dinner Sunday evening and arrived at River Crab less than an hour before closing. We were immediately seated in front of large windows looking out over the St. Clair River. There was still a fairly large crowd dining. Even though it was late, our waitress, Marielle, provided us with the most relaxed and comfortable service. She was very pleasant and always on top of our needs. Within minutes of ordering we received our wine accompanied by warm rolls, salmon pate' and whipped butter. Our delicious dinners were served just about as soon as we finished our rolls. The food was superb! Because we were celebrating our birthdays, we were served complimentary crème brûlée for dessert. This relaxing evening dinner provided us with an excellent total dining experience. read more

This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I've been coming here since the 90s, and it has not changed - and in this case, that's a good thing. The food is upscale and always delicious, but the restaurant itself is waterfront dressy casual. I love the comfortable vibe here, and the view of the St. Clair River and passing freighters can't be beat. All of their food is excellent. No matter what you order, it's delicious and the portions are generous. I think my favorite item on their menu is their Gazpacho. It's only served when it's in season, so grab it when you can. It's fresh, full of flavor, and every spoonful is divine. Want a filet that will melt in your mouth? This is the place. The service here is great, too. I've never had an issue with that. The prices are on the higher side, but you get what you pay for - and this place is worth every penny. I already want to make another trip for more Gazpacho! :) read more

Stopped at the River Crab for lunch. I had the mussels that were terrible. Not all were open which is a bad sign, mussels lay in a broth. ? In my book mussels are done with a wine sauce or creamy sauce not just broth - you can tell there was a lack of creativity or knowledge cooking. My girlfriend had the burger and it was the worst burger she ever had ( over cooked )- I found out after dinner that the owner of that restaurant had changed and that most of people were complaining of the food quality ( Cafétéria style food ) pre cooked meals- Highly NOT recommended read more

There is no river view quite like what they have here. The restaurant is just as I remember it as a child, it's decor is simple and timeless. Every table had a fresh white table cloth and the silverware is heavy and spotless. The service here is good when you're inside, not great but I never feel like I have to chase anyone down for anything. The outside seating is hit or miss, on a busy summer day, I have absolutely found myself needing to go inside to the bar to ask for a refresh on my drinks. The food is good across the board. I have never had a bad meal but the Martha Vineyard salad with chicken and the calamari or crab cake appetizer are my go-to. The seasonal menu is always worth a gander. This has been the place my grandmother has taken me for my birthday lunch/dinner annually since I was a kid. It's out of my normal price range except for special occasions but that's only because I am a cheapskate. read more

This place is so good. I ate until I was so full I almost threw up. I obviously ate too much of the pre dinner bread. The oysters were fresh, not chewy, and didn't taste like the bottom of the St. Clair river (I've had really bad ones before). Our server Caleb was great and very attentive. Go eat here!! read more

I wish there was a way to give them a 3.5 but I can't bring myself to give them a 4. The view and the ambiance of the restaurant was on point, and it's definitely worth it to come check this place out. Let's just talk about the food; we each got something different so I got to try a bit of everything. It was my first time trying oyster and it will not be my last! I have no point of reference for this so let's just say it was good. We had the dynamite mahi mahi, the seafood sampler, Cajun tortellini and the ny strip steak. The fish was cooked well, it just didn't have that much flavor to it. The rice was also a little bland. The Cajun tortellini was what I was looking forward to the most, it was pretty good, just didn't taste Cajun. The sampler came with a crab cake, shrimp and salmon. The crab cake was good, as was the shrimp but the salmon was very plain, just felt like there wasn't much seasoning. The steak was pretty good, not much else to say about it. It was cooked well and was flavorful. The biggest reason for 3 stars instead of 4 was because of the drinks. There wasn't one that stood out and made me think I should get another one. Everything tasted like they used some sort of mix rather than use actual fresh ingredients to make it. The view of the river flowing right next to it adds to it so much. The only thing that made me remove a star...was the brunch buffet. It was soooooo good, and I went there also every week after church. But like all great things it shut down. Please, River Crab, for the good of everyone, we need the Sunday brunches back. read more

The view is fantastic and the service was very good. However, as a person with Celiac Disease who is gluten free NOT by choice, I was incredibly disappointed in the gluten free offerings. It seems there was no effort made towards any creative options. Only the most bland and boring menu items were indicated as gluten free. All of the gluten free choices were things I could easily broil or bake myself at home for a fraction of the cost. Additionally, some of the items indicated to be gluten containing made no sense. Like, how do you add gluten into steamed mussels? Where is the gluten in prime rib? I literally shed a tear after driving an hour and realizing only a small fraction of the otherwise lovely menu was available to me. The server may have sensed my sadness/disappointment as shortly after I ordered she came back with cucumber slices, "so at least you can enjoy the fish pate" which was previously delivered with the bread basket. Tonight we decided to do something special and go to the river crab for our date night. We made a reservation. We got there and got a beautiful table on the water. The waitress was wonderful. The sad part, was the meal. This was not our first time there, but I have to say everything we ordered was served to us basically cold. My husband had the lobster, when it turned up on the plate it had a pink hue to it. When he cut into it, aside from not being hot it was also very gummy. We have eaten there before and never had any issues but today it felt like everything we were eating was past its expiration date. I had the ravioli as I am not a seafood person.. When it came up to the table, it was lukewarm and very much lacked seasoning as my husband commented nothing he ate had any seasoning or flavor to it. I am very sad about this. We always enjoy a nice meal and we don't mind paying the price, but today was definitely off. read more

Was visiting Port Huron for a wedding weekend and wasn't even supposed end up at River Crab.....but let me say am I ever happy I did! My fiancé and I were in the lobby of hotel about to eat at hotel restaurant when a couple, also attending wedding, asked us if we'd like to join them at River Crab. Immediately upon entering restaurant I was impressed. The layout of restaurant was really cool and the upside down boat on ceiling was pretty neat to look at. A lady playing live piano made for some good background music during dinner. I was very happy with my meal I ordered the Prime Steak with Shrimp Scampi. It was delicious (see pic). If I'm ever in that area again I'll definitely go back to River Crab. read more

Incredible disappointment. We drove 5 hours to take our father out for a retirement dinner on a Thursday night (the restaurant is ~45min away from his home). For a once in a lifetime event, I spent hours looking for the perfect spot. Yelp highly recommended River Crab so we committed to a longer drive than normal because the view looked outstanding and my family loves the water. He had not been in years and after this experience we won't be back again. I booked well in advance and requested a table by the window. When we arrived, they took us at a table in the main room, well away from the view. I reminded the host that we had booked well in advance for a seat next to the water. He stated that reserving did not guarantee a view, dropped the menus, and left. I understood his point but everyone was incredibly disappointed that we drove hours to sit by the water and now had to peer through multiple diners to see it. We were one of only 3 tables in the whole restaurant forced into this situation. The kicker was that within 15minutes of being shoved into a subpar table, not 1, not 2, but THREE parties arrived and were seated at tables next to the window with a view. The host missed the mark by not allowing us to wait 10minutes for the table we had requested or moving us after we had complained. Then we had an ethical issue. We ordered a bottle and the server came out with a different bottle, stating that the one we ordered was out of stock (understandable with COVID times) and this one was more expensive but they would give to us for the same price- this was not true. We looked up both bottles and the "upgrade" bottle was less than half the list price of the bottle that we originally ordered ($13 vs. $28). The original bottle was a 2.1x markup from list price ($59). The "upgrade" was a 4.5x markup from list price. When we complained, they reduced the markup to only 3.8x ($39). Not satisfactory but I had already complained once in front of my father, and we were trying to salvage the celebration. The mixed drinks were light on the alcohol and when my friend expressed her disappointment and unwillingness to have another, the server brought out another stronger drink "on the house". Except it was not really on the house. The server took off the drink my friend ordered and upcharged her for the stronger pour drink. House bread is addictive. Martha's Vineyard salad and the clam chowder were tasty. Entrees are good although veggie sides are extremely small (I.e. 2 spears of asparagus). View (if you can get them to seat you at the table you reserved) is probably beautiful. Location alone cannot save a restaurant from poor customer service and unethical billing behavior. read more

HONEST REVIEW AHEAD- Upon arrival of River Crab on 2/25/23, while I understand is under construction at this time, it's all very confusing for both the customer and the staff. Before I get started I have been to multiple of the countries top steak and seafood restaurants in Las Vegas, Nashville, Florida and more. We had a 5pm reservation which we arrived early and decided to have a drink at the bar. This is where I honestly began feeling sorry for the staff, The bartenders were so very confused at where anything was or if they even had what was needed to make a drink from their own menus. We asked if we could transfer our drink bill down to the dinner table and the bartender looked at us like we were stupid before another person answered our question. We head down to eat where we see tons of what we thought looked like great appetizer choices, however, Almost everything we wanted they "ran out of" it's one thing to run out of one or two things but you can't make your signature mojito, you can't give me the ahi tuna tartare, and you can't give me a lobster tail? Come on. We ordered the bruschetta, the "toasted" bread was ICE cold. The clam chowder was not hot as soup should be. The scallops saved the appetizer course. The dinner came about 35 minutes after the appetizer which at that point we wanted to leave. My fiancé ordered the filet, the steak had a great flavor and was cooked correctly. BUT the broccoli on his plate was also ice cold, the potatoes tasted like they came from a bag. My sisters snapper was EXTREMELY fishy and the crab topping was ice cold. My chicken tortellini that I had to order because they were out of my original choice was straight out of the freezer section at any big box store. I could have made it myself. Also, WHY is almost every single dinner serviced with coconut rice? No flavor, undercooked and DRY. Our dinner was 160 dollars for 2 people. Which is not a big deal considering last weekend we spent over 300 in Detroit. But this is easily the Biggest waste of money I have ever spent on food. I will caution people against going here and I will also NEVER return. SAVE YOUR MONEY and getting a better meal at your local McDonald's. read more

Back for second dinner, after yesterday we thought it could not be beat.... It was! Lily was our server, she was wonderful! Our dinner was absolutely a 10. I had the scallops, hubster had the scampi. A great bottle of wine, and a cruise ship passing while we had dinner wad a plus. (Great timing). We will be back. Again the draw for us is the food not necessary the inn. read more

This was a long awaited second visit, and sadly it was terrible... We had 7:30 reservations for 4 and they acted as if we were walk-ins and they had not clue where to seat us. Our server took our drink orders after about 5 minutes. Then it was about 20 minutes before she brought them over, spilling all over and switching drinks around. Only the draught beer was correct. One order was a Perfect Manhattan with an olive - he got a cherry. One was a sweet Old Fashioned with Southern Comfort. We think it was with water. The other was off their cocktail menu, a New Fashioned and it was awful. We placed our food order, nothing special. Our salads and soup came out about 10 minutes after placing the order. 25 minutes later, she came back to our table and had lost our entree orders, not put it in at all. So I repeated what everyone had ordered. She went to enter it and came back 2 minutes later saying they had no Prime Rib, which 2 of us ordered, and is only available weekends. So, we ordered something else. The food arrived quickly. The asparagus was steamed and bland. That was served with the lobster and the NY Strip. Two of us, me included got the seafood trio, since Prime Rib was gone. The broccoli side was not appetizing looking, sorry, I did not get a photo, but ewww... The coconut shrimp was amazing, with mango salso, I will say that. The crab cake, meh... and the salmon - horrible! 3 of the 4 of us ordered dessert, and that was brought timely and they enjoyed it. If you like Creme Brulee, it was very well done. My father-in-law stopped after paying to just let them know that this experience was awful. They were back in town from Wisconsin, but we probably will not return on their next trip home. read more

I order a Medium Rare Steak with mashed potatoes and after forty minutes of wait the steak came back grey on the inside, and tasted like wax. The mashed potatoes came back cold, while the restaurant has bad (slow) service even when I am the only customer present in the restaurant. The only thing good at the place was the all you can eat buffet, that they discontinued leaving no positives for this place. My friend and I went there for her birthday dinner and as soon as we walked in we were greeted with what looked like a manager, she proceeded to tell us if we wanted a cocktail that we would "need our IDs ready." There was no clear indication we would even be having a cocktail and then she continued to tell us how young we looked and kept making rude comments about us.
