Little Italy with small side of ranch

As a lifelong lover of pizza, River City Wood Fire pizza has reignited my love for quality personal sized pizzas. Every time I've been - they have never once disappointed me in crafting phenomenal flavor in every single bite. From the first bite with fresh toppings, perfectly melted cheese, tasty sauce to the last crunch of perfectly cooked crust - this is the best pizza I believe I've had in my life. I used to believe ranch and pizza was the oddest thing - but now after tasting theirs / I am now a believer. Their staff is incredibly friendly and hard working even when handling large crowds. I hope anyone that loves pizza is blessed enough to swing by their food truck or location and grabs a personal pizza from here.

Okay strap in because this is going to be a long very complimentative review. Anytime someone asks me what my favorite food in Richmond is, my answer is always River City Wood Fire Pizza. My husband and I have been enjoying this food truck for six years. We follow them to wherever they set up because they are that good - and now that they opened their brick and mortar location close to our house it's a dangerous game we play. The pizza dough is a sourdough crust and there's nothing more satisfying them the delicious/chewy/soft crust. Their pizzas are all fun and incentive (we love the 64 west, Northside, sir Brussels, any of their seasonal pizzas, the angry zinski.. we don't discriminate when it comes to their options to be honest). The hot honey they use for their pizzas is a must - just do yourself a favor and order it added to your pizza. Also, the homemade ranch - delicious. Their wings are also a must try, their juicy/tender/tasty - again do yourself a favor and try them. We love them so much that we had them cater our wedding. Not only were they a huge hit (we still get compliments about the pizza), but they also were very accommodating when we had to change the location a few days before the wedding - thanks to Hurricaine Ian. I really cannot recommend them enough! Best food truck and pizza in Richmond hands down

Went to Hardywood Brewery (west creek location) for some Halloween fun with our kids and decided to grab a bite from River City. There was a stand where you could order the pizza and once you're done, you can input your phone number and you'll receive a text that it's done & ready for pick up (thank GOODNESS because it was 85degrees out so my husband def wanted to come wait back inside with us). He ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and it was AMAZING! Cooked to perfect and you could taste all of the flavors. It was very fresh and worth the wait. The pizza itself was fairly small but I'm not sure if there was another option to order a larger one (my husband did the ordering while the rest of us waited inside) We decided to give them another try at some point! I wish they delivered to us. I could eat that pizza every day!

This pizza is so good. I'll come back for that crispy pepperoni time and time again. The inside is very cute for how small of a space is but with the wood fire oven it definitely gets hot in the summer. Good music and the kids enjoyed watching the pizzas get made. Service was friendly and pretty fast considering we didn't order ahead of time.

I cannot say enough good things about this food truck and their delicious pizza! I'm very dairy intolerant, and have to avoid it almost completely. I've never looked forward to a cheese substitute in my life until I came across River City Wood Fire's house made cashew cheese. It's absolutely delicious! Their classic Zinsky pepperoni pizza with cashew cheese is one of my favorites but their specials are always worth considering trying, they're usually really exciting too. They also have great desserts! I follow River City on Instagram to keep up with where they're visiting next and if they're in the area, or I'm really craving them, you can bet I'm rolling up for two pizzas just for myself. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Some of the best pizza around. Have lots of different pizza choices. The folks here are super friendly and a joy to interact with. Definitely will be back for more pizza and wings!!!

This truck is THE best. They stop by my office lot every few weeks and it's definitely popular. The pizza is fresh out the wood fire oven. It's not too greasy. I get the 64 west because I like simple, but also love ricotta and bacon. The wait is a little long because it's fresh, but definitely worth it. Don't know what else to say but if you haven't had their pizza yet, you're slacking!

Great pizza! My wife and I tried it for the first time last night. She got the Hawaii 5-0, and I got the Churchill. We were both really happy with our selections and plan to go back again.

River City Wood Fire is a fairly stellar mobile pizzeria that intermittently stops by my present workplace downtown. It does take about fifteen minutes depending on the queue size to get a pie (since they have to make it in their fancy oven...it's not frozen crap). Once ready, they offer to put it in a mini box or on a sturdy paper plate. So far I've tried two different pies -- the 64-West and the Carol Anne. Both are white-based with different toppings. While the 64 had smoked bacon and basil on it, I definitely preferred the Carol Anne (minced garlic, spinach, black pepper, fontina, mozzarella, parmesan, sea salt, olive oil) and that'll likely become my go-to in the future. The pizzas cost no more than $11 (+ tip...those folks work hard!), and they offer gluten-free or vegan by request. If you see the truck, I'd really suggest ordering a pie. Totally worth the carbs!

I am lucky to live walking distance away from their spot downtown! The line can get pretty long but the pizzas come out relatively quick (less than 10 minutes). All of their pizzas are made fresh to order and are about $10 or $11. They are about the size of a paper plate and can be easily finished if you're pretty hungry. The crust comes out nice and smokey from the wood fired oven which gives the pizza another depth of flavor but it isn't overwhelming. It can get a little floppy though so just watch your toppings as you go in for the next piece. All of the toppings are very fresh and you can taste the quality of their ingredients. I'm really surprised they don't have more reviews because I think they are better than most of the "established" pizza places in Richmond!

Angelos Midlothian…read more 5/7/25 6:55 pm I must say I'm a fan of the decor and everything appears very clean. They were pretty packed. I sat on the lovely screened in porch which is where I took my photos. The bathroom was also clean and appealing to the eyes. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. This is a Family style restaurant. I ordered a Large Delux pizza because on this day it was $4 or $5 off a large. For me, the pizza had way too many toppings. And this caused the pizza to end up being wet and soft. That did not sit well with me. I feel like less is more when it comes to pizza. Not only because of the sogginess, but who needs all of that on the pizza? You just need enough to taste pizza is more about the dough, cheese and the sauce. Anyway, because of all the toppings causing the pizza to be soggy I will not go back. I only ate 1 slice. The potential for great pizza is there if they didn't put so many toppings that caused water which caused it to be soggy.

Palermo Trattoria Pizzeria shines when it leans into the Italian classics. The chicken marsala was…read morerich and well-balanced, and the lobster ravioli was genuinely impressive -- flavorful, well-executed, and clearly the highlight of the meal. The surprising part? The pizza didn't quite live up to the rest of the menu, especially with "Pizzeria" in the name. It wasn't bad, just not on the same level as the entrées. Skip the pizza and go for the traditional Italian dishes -- that's where they really deliver.

Still about a three star experience although it has a potential to be a 4.5/5. The hostess…read moresituation is completely disheveled, as it was the last two times I came here, so they haven't worked that out yet. The sign says "wait to be seated", but there's no one attending the hostess station. This is a common, recurring problem here. After a solid five minutes of standing there with no greeting from anyone, a waiter sees us and comes over to ask how many. We tell him we have a reservation for three people, give him our name, and say he says OK I'll be right back. Let me see what I have set up. Off he goes, and we never see him again. So we stand there another 4 to 5 minutes, and a second waiter comes by to tend to us. We give our name and reservation details. He goes off, also never to be seen again. We wait another 3 to 4 minutes and a woman who looks like the hostess comes around and so for the third time we give our name reservation time and tell her that we requested a booth. She takes a long time, stacking menus and putting the paper part back into the menu sleeves, and then finally gets three menus together and takes us to a table. So then we have to say (again), no we requested a booth, and so then we have to stand by a dirty booth and wait for them to clean it. So the whole beginning of the dinner process is already a mess and that sets a terrible and frustrating tone for the evening. First experiences inside a restaurant are so important and they just don't recognize that here On to dinner. Our waitress comes over and she's lovely, friendly, and seems on top of things at the beginning . We order a couple of drinks and the meatball appetizer while we peruse the menu. A long time goes by and we get our drinks. And then another long time goes by with no appetizer appearing at the table and she comes to take our dinner order. (She had not yet read us the specials so we had to ask for what they were because we heard the waiter behind us giving the specials, but couldn't hear well enough to catch them-I'm pretty sure our waitress was gonna skip over reciting the specials-) . After again, another long amount of time our salads come out, but still no appetizer. So I mention..." we have a meatball appetizer coming right?". She says yes and heads off. (The appetizer should come before the salad, especially when it was ordered way before). So halfway through the salads, the meatballs come. Now I love a meatball and all varieties of a meatballs. These were super firm (like... it took a hard push with a knife to cut into them ), they were barely lukewarm, with a barely melted slab of mozzarella on top. Had they been hot, with the cheese nice and bubbly, they would have been pretty good despite being overly firm and super salty (and I love salt) Entrees came piping hot and were very good (mezze rigatoni and lobster ravioli, and a kids spaghetti) Garlic knots were delicious. Wine pour was great. I think the kitchen, not the waitress, was super slow which impacted our experience. And for a place that stays this busy, they need to hire a hostess to attend the front desk, so that guests are promptly welcomed and seating is managed efficiently. Menu is extensive and the place has great potential.
