Although we usually stop by Hell's Kitchen whenever we want margs and Mexican food, we decided to give its neighbor a try this time. 'Ritas recently opened and has a pretty limited menu: it consists of three kinds of nachos, six kinds of tacos, one burrito, and guac and chips. It was pretty clear to us that there are still many kinks to be worked out. The margs were messy, and had wildly varying amounts of alcohol. Guac and chips were nothing special - probably just mashed up avocado with minimum additions. I would definitely skip the burrito. While it sounded enticing - General Tso's burrito - the rice inside was mostly flavorless, and the whole thing tasted like leftovers thrown together. My friend also disliked his sweet potato taco, which he said was just overwhelmingly one note. Service was ok - while servers were mostly friendly, there were definitely times when it was hard to get their attention. I might come back in a few weeks / months to see if anything's changed. For now, I would recommend you just wait for a table next door or grab food from somewhere else nearby. read more

A computer link between the service and the kitchen - Frown face. Can I make that a double? (Double frown face.) Blame the owners. We waited for a re-e-a-a-lly lo-o-o-ng time for our food, which ultimately needed to be prepared by our waiter. No lie. Apologies were profuse from the staff and they worked to mitigate the unfortunate circumstances. But- again- blame the owners. With a happy hour that ends at 6pm in a neighborhood of people who barely traipse home before 7...there MUST be money being made somewhere to ensure that the business operating systems are "go". Instead, we experienced....well...it was well after sunset on this mild early summer evening by the time we bid adieu. I know, I know...this is a "first world" problem. But to the owners: "Do better." You need to. On 9th Avenue, we have lots of options. Please don't make us force your hand. PS- I gave 'rita's only 2 stars. Staying down the street, so I checked this place out on a Thursday night shortly after checking in. A friendly waitress instructed me on the completely contactless ordering and paying system, which was actually novel for me. This is our go to spot for tacos and pizza combo! They are doing indoor dining with social distancing and have outdoor seating as well. "We" are fan's of this restaurant chain, and LOVED Vynl before it closed a few years ago. Woodlot was sexy, but closed pretty quickly. 'Rita's has opened and finally has an amazing food menu! The food, though limited, is tasty fresh and plentiful. As for the house margaritas? THE BEST IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. ( And I know my margaritas!) Service is attentive for the most part. And that my 9 year old says to me "Could we go to 'Rita's for dinner?" Speaks volumes! They are a welcome addition to the neighborhood! read more

LOVE RITAS! My favorite margarita bar in NYC! Love the flavor selection and the staff here. Some of the best margs (frozen or on the rocks) you will find in new york (and I lived in Texas so I'm a tough critic). Such a homey neighborhood atmosphere where all are welcome. Not much of a restaurant. Mainly a bar. The margaritas are ok, but the waitress (not bartender) we had on Sunday night, June 30 was lacking hospitality skills. The bar was completely packed and they announced last call at 12:50 a.m. At 1:04 this one waitress started telling people to drink up and they needed to leave. Half the bar had a full drink. She was super aggressive as her work colleagues looked on and shook their heads. She literally was running patrons out of the place at 1:10 while people were trying to finish their drinks. It was very rude. Either you announce last call earlier, so people can finish their drinks, or if you wait until 12:50, you tactfully tell people it's closing time a day give them time to finish. Terrible customer service. A couple people said something to her and she snapped back at them. There are much better options in Hell's Kitchen. Me and my friends will not be back. read more

Stopped by for dinner and drinks before a show- not such a good idea. The sangria here was horrible! A slice of lime does not constitute "fruit". The sangria was so sweet with what tasted like triple sec which, is not an ingredient in sangria, that it was not drinkable. I sent it back and ordered water instead- as for the food, there are too many choices in the Hells Kitchen area of the city to have such a limited menu and the items on your menu are so not a knock-out.... The place itself is cute, but the service and the 'ritas leave MUCH to be desired! It's disappointing because one of my absolute favorite 'hood haunt is BSquared, their sister joint - ahmazing pizza & drafts! But anyway, 'ritas traditional margarita is served 'on tap' and is not made fresh when ordered and it tastes like a 'mix'. Terrible! They do not serve you chips with your drink - you have to ask for them - terrible service! In addition, they are one of the very few places in Hell's Kitchen that does not have a happy hour after work on Friday's. How they compete with Rancho Tequileria across the street is beyond me - who make amazing 'ritas fresh when ordered AND have a happy hour every day of the week - wait 'ritas doesn't compete - I couldn't get in to Rancho on a Friday at 5:45 because it was packed! So, I sulked and left and said, "oh, I'll try 'ritas again (2nd time) - there were 4 people at the bar! YAY, I thought! There were 4 people at the bar during happy hour because 'ritas does not do happy hour on Friday's! That's why it was empty! Better change your business model or you'll be shuttering like all the others! I stayed - well because I wanted a rita - awful!
