The Rise Group recently finished building a detached outdoor pergola for us with a full shingle California peak roof, pine tongue and groove ceiling, and redwood posts, privacy fence, and outdoor staircase. We are very pleased with the finished project. The construction took roughly four months, and prior to breaking ground Ryan and his engineering team were very helpful drafting and submitting the project's engineering plans for the required town and county approvals. Although completion of the project took longer than anticipated, we feel that every stage of the project received careful attention and we were eventually able to work out unexpected issues to our satisfaction. We recently completed an extensive remodel of our home with Ryan and his crew. We added ~500 sqft to the back of the house, completely re-located and re-built the kitchen, added a master bathroom, and pretty much refinished every other room in the house, as well as the exterior of the house. While we didn't use RISE for their architectural and structural design services (we found them after this stage of the process), they did do everything in terms of building out the house. We obtained several quotes from contractors and RISE Group's was quite competitive. Above all else, Ryan was extremely easy to work with. All the comments in other reviews here are true, regarding his attentiveness to your needs/concerns, and how good he is at communication. It made it easy to work through problems as and when they came up during our project. It is also true that whenever I discovered issues and brought them up, Ryan would do his best to remediate these issues without any fuss. I really appreciated that about working with him. We had quite a few structural surprises including foundation work and roof work, and at each stage Ryan would present us the options and allow us the freedom to do our own research before deciding which option would be best, or propose another option. This way we felt like we were partners on the project. We are very happy with how the house turned out. In particular the tiling work in the kitchen and bathrooms turned out really well. Towards the end, we wanted to add a few finishing touches with custom trimwork in bedroom closets and a laundry room butcherblock countertop. We asked Ryan and the crew if they could help out with some of this custom trim work, and they were able to accommodate those kinds of requests for reasonable change order fees. This was our first remodeling/renovation experience, and I'm glad we found Ryan and his crew. I recently worked with Ryan on finalizing the structure and drawing for floor plan remodel for a new house we bought. They were by far the most price competitive and I was initially worried about the quality. However after talking to Ryan my concerns were allayed and I went ahead with them. I can only say one of the best decisions I took. Ryan and Tina (the architect) were super responsive. Tina actually came to house twice to take measurements as the floor plan we had were incorrect and she had to take more measurements. In spite of that the team delivered the project 1 week earlier. This review is long overdue. It was a pleasure working with Ryan and his crew. We originally reached out to Rise Group for structural drawing, but we ended up hiring them to rebuild a common wall, which they did an outstanding job. We felt that it was a good decision to have them build our wall since they were working on our drawing. They started the job back in Dec of 2020, but it took several months to finish the wall due to SJ city permit. The process of getting the city permit and having someone to come out to inspect the wall took so long. Thanks to Rise Group, the inspection went smoothly without any issues. The city inspector came out twice and we got a final stamp after their 2nd visit. We were really pleased with the outcome. We used Rise Group to replace some rotting structural beams and posts in our house. We loved that we could get structural engineering and construction from the same company. We didn't have to make any effort to co-ordinate between the two. They took care of all the structural drawings, permitting, construction, and inspections. They went the extra mile to make sure the work was structurally sound. When they found that a beam that was not part of the original quote was not mounted properly, they redid some of the work they had already done in order to get access to the beam and secure it properly with a metal hanger. I had wonderful experience with RISE Group. Aj and Nick are excellent in the work and they are very professional and friendly. If I have other projects, I will talk with them first. I would like to give them more stars, but 5 is the maximum. The following is my story. I remodeled my house and I had an issue with city permit process. In the first inspection, I talked with the inspector and inspector gave me a correction lists and talk about something, which I did not understand (I'm a normal person). So, I needed someone who would fix the correction lists and represent me during the city inspection and make the inspection pass. And I needed to complete the permit process as soon as possible. I sent my situation to multiple companies and most of them replied that they did not do that kind of work. I understand this because they needed to fix the mistakes they did not make and pass the inspection. If I'm a contractor, I would not take this work. That day, Nick called me and he stopped by my house at the same day. He looked at the correction lists and checked my house. Nick and Aj started the work few days later. It was much faster than I expected. They fixed everything on the correction lists. In the next inspection, the works they did were perfect. But I did not explain the situation properly to them because I did not understand what the inspector talked about. Now, I had huge number of other correction lists. At this time, I was happy that Aj and Nick represented me. I did not need to do anything; I did not need to try to understand what I could not understand. They talked with the inspector and figured out what needed to be fixed and what should be done. I felt that they fully understood the city code. I was so happy that they helped me. But I was so depressed because there are so many correction lists. I thought that this would not be completed and I would be in a terrible situation. However, Aj and Nick told me, "Don't worry about it, we will take care of it." Then, they fixed all the correction lists and even they took care of the paper works. Today, they gave me the signed permit. Now, I can sleep well. I was very happy with their work. Another thing I liked was that the relationship was not between contractor and customer. From the first day I saw them, I felt that they were my old friends. It looked like that my old friends came to help me when I was in a terrible situation. Our house had some structural issues: the bottom portion of one of the three columns supporting the balcony was detached, and the backyard patio should be demolished due to termite problem. I know other companies could've done these jobs at lower prices, but to me the integrity of the property is a more important consideration than the cost. Ryan was extremely responsive (which is super important) and friendly. His crew did a great job. They changed all three columns supporting the balcony, reinforced the balcony, expanded the ground concrete to reattach the detached column. With the backyard job, in the midst of it Ryan told us new gutter should be installed or rain would pour over the sliding glass door. I just find his suggestions very reliable. The work was very promptly done, and even the contract we signed was very professional.
