I appreciate ATA's rapid response to me needs and their ability to save me thousands when the crews make a mistake. A lot of factors go in to engineering a structure including Soil Engineering and the California earthquake codes. While I feel these other entities play a huge role in the overengineering of a structure, ATA has always found the most cost effective approach to keep everyone happy. 7 of my other structural engineers are truly guilty of overengineering the structures to save their own skin, ATA is not. I appreciate the pricing that I receive from ATA to engineer my projects. They are fair with their pricing and if anything they are under priced. It is not uncommon for them to make changes to the plans due to architect/client revisions and not charge for them. My other 8 engineering firms charge by the minute for anything that changes, even to talk on the phone. Give ATA Engineering a shot at your project, you will not be dissapointed unless you expect someone to work for free.

Along with the industry-standard "Earthquake Retrofit Plan Set A," I decided to "go big or go home" and also went along with the recommended optional repairs, including the installation of Simpson's AC4 Pier Caps. Soon after my decision, Tay drafted the plans and submitted them to the city. Waiting for the city's approval took approximately two weeks, but once we received approval, we scheduled the start of work. The work itself only took two days. Today (which was the day after completion), the city inspector arrived and approved the retrofit. Tay's team shared pictures of the completed work with me (taken within the crawlspace), and emailed them for my records. Happily, I have the final permit in-hand for our records, and for our insurer. I'm very impressed that the work was completed in the timeframe promised, with a city inspector arriving the next day approving the work. Competence: While I found his technical skills to be impressive, I had some concerns about the design of the interior spaces. In particular, I found that the floor plan was not very convenient for daily use, and some aspects of the design did not take into account practical considerations. As a first-time home owner, I found that his fees added up quickly, and I felt that he was primarily focused on getting the project done quickly and obtaining the necessary permits rather than prioritizing my overall satisfaction as a customer. While I appreciate Mr. Yang's structure expertise in obtaining permits, I would have preferred a more customer-centric approach, with greater attention paid to my needs and preferences.
