I hired SF Bay Engineering for seismic retrofit plans under the Earthquake Brace and Bolt program. I was told architectural drawings were required before they could proceed, so I hired and paid an architect to prepare them. After multiple back and forth and with SF Bay Engineering admitting they aren't familiar with the requirements, they terminated the contract. They refunded their engineering fee, but the architectural cost remained my responsibility. I brought the matter to small claims court, and the court ruled that because I retained the plans, reimbursement was not warranted. I recommend future clients clarify in writing how architectural costs will be handled if SF Bay Engineering terminates the contract. Happy to provide additional details upon request read more

However, they declined to be involved when they learned the address, saying first they were too busy this month, and then saying we are too far away from them. However, we are in the service area they show on Yelp (in Campbell), and there are certainly reviews on Yelp from customers in San Jose, Santa Clara, etc. So... must be other reasons they declined. Marcus is a very knowledgeable engineer. He is quick to respond, very adept with computers and technology that helps with faster and easier communications and payment. He is open to communicating with the customer and team and work on the requirements. And above all, answers questions the client has. The price is something that may seem not reasonable for all the tasks. Another area of improvement could be that the communication gap between him and his team should be reduced - due to this gap, it costed me couple of hundreds of dollars with my architect. I am very thankful for SF Bay Engineering's help and would offer my highest recommendation of their services. I reached out to SF Bay Engineering about a structural problem that I have had with our home's exterior staircase. We were concerned about cracking in the stair stringers and hoped that we could do a repair as opposed to a total replacement. Rachel and Josh responded immediately to my inquiry and helped me quickly coordinate a visit from Marcus (within about 3-4 days of my first communication).
