This place perfectly encapsulates how a notch above mediocrity is absolutely thrilling to the suburban Connecticut person. Look, it is a cute shop. They spent the money and they have a nice espresso machine. Which of course is ultimately the only thing that matters to me - the coffee. But let's talk about the donuts. Because this is a donut shop. They are large. Like Americans. They are not particularly inspiring. They are cake-like - with the exception of the apple fritter one which was a gooey greasy mess. None of them are really donuts. I got four of them to go. I took a bite of each and that was more than enough. Even my high school aged son passed them over after a few bites. Now for the surprise, and the reason that this is not a more scathing review. The coffee was surprisingly okay. I ordered a Cortado. Part of me didn't want to write a review about how absolutely fantastic this place is because I want to continue to be able to show up at 11am in a Sunday and still have my pick of the litter on doughnuts lol On the real though, these doughnuts are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! 10/10 no notes. I'm from the west coast visiting my sister in Westport for Thanksgiving... I saw Blake Lively's posts raving about these doughnuts which looked so good that I had to try them. The atmosphere felt like you were in Martha Stewart's Sous Chef kitchen.. very cute and well decorated. You can see the pastry maestros in the back cooking and dipping hard at work. First impressions: The doughnuts look so amazing on the display window. They were still warm!! The texture of the doughnuts are quite dense and tastes like a dessert instead of a light fluffy doughnut. They weren't super sweet which was a good surprise. They remind me of Randy's Doughnuts from Los Angeles (you can now also fine these at Resorts World in Las Vegas). This is my favorite Doughnut place in the area (Western CT and Hudson Valley). You cannot go wrong; every version I have tried is great. We stopped in for a quick sweet treat on the way to another store while in town, getting a glazed donut and a chocolate glazed one. Both were phenomenal - large, great flavor not just for the glaze but the donut too. The shop is small, and there's not a lot of space to eat inside. Well.... It's worth the hype. We took a ride for the 8am open on Sunday morning. Highly recommend , these doughnuts sell out quick. By 8:01am they had to bring out a second tray of the signature Apple Fritter. Greeted by friendly faces in a small quaint cafe known for doughnuts but also can stay for a quick bite. We bought two of each flavor to try. Should have only bought one of each. They are heavy and you can be satisfied with a half. They are amazing !!! Hands down one of the best I have ever tried. Yum! Went this morning after hearing good things and we were in the area at 9:30 ish (Sunday). I was shocked that we got easy parking and there were only like 2 people in line! There were 6 donuts to pick from and they all sounded good. We got the Aztec cinnamon, the jam donut, brown butter vanilla and apple fritter. We ate the jam donut there at a big long table and it was really good! LOTS of jam but it didn't taste like too much. We also split the Aztec one which was much less sweet and it was still warm. We got an iced matcha with maple and an iced latte with vanilla syrup (both syrups were housemade). Eh I couldn't taste the syrups and the drinks were just okay. I could make better at home. I'd probably stick with just a cold brew next time. We didn't try the other 2 donuts yet but I'm sure they'll be good. Lots of people coming in and out today. I liked the ambiance, friendly and welcoming and the woman packing the donuts was quirky and cool. I would travel from anywhere to have doughnuts from Rise. I've been to most of the famous doughnut shops in NYC and Rise beats them. I tried 4 different doughnuts and each bite was heavenly. My favorite was the apple crisp. It had a thin crisp bite to it. The visually appealing warm doughnut with an amazing frosting that wasn't too sweet and the perfect dough just made me fall in love at first bite. While the selection is limited, it's hard not to find at least one flavor that makes your taste buds pop! Some flavors rotate back in often, but the variety is part of the fun. Each donut is larger than your typical donut--so indulgent that eating two might leave you needing a nap! The staff is friendly and genuinely excited to see you walk through the door. While the line can look intimidating, the process is well-organized and efficient. You'll move through quickly, without ever feeling rushed. Rise offers coffee in a few styles, including some iced drinks, but it's clear their focus is on donuts--not being your neighborhood coffee shop. And that's perfectly fine--they delight in what they do. The shop itself is clean and welcoming. There's only one table and a few chairs inside, with a couple more outside--so Rise is very much a "to-go" kind of place. I am in there once or twice a week and buy a box of six pack for my clients. Fresh, warm doughnuts coming through! We were a bit late so the choices were quite limited at 12:30pm on a Sunday. But the only two flavors they had left did not disappoint. The vanilla bean glazed and cinnamon streusel-like doughnuts were superb. They were both still slightly warm and they were unbelievably light and fluffy. The space is really cute - one long communal table and a small curated section of local and handmade crafts and roasted coffee beans. There's ample seating outside either on a bench outside or around the building from the shop. Will definitely come back at least two more times. Next time, we'll come earlier for more of a doughnut selection and another day to try out their pop-up barbecue menu. They've got a full smoker out front and offering smoked BBQ meats starting at 3:00pm on select Sundays! read more

Before even setting foot into this donut shop, I had plenty good word of mouth of the place, so back in the summer, I finally caved and paid the place a visit. Since then, I come almost weekly. I normally order their Chocolate Butter and Maple Sea Salt, and the donuts are soft like resting your head on a pillow. They're also piping warm when I get these donuts, but that's because I get their when they open and so I sometimes get first pick. I do hear that their Apple Fritters are to die for, but I haven't had a chance to try one yet (maybe soon). They have a great interior to showcase this shop and invite you in no matter what kind of donut you're looking for. The service is also top-notch and the people behind the counter are friendly. One cashier during a recent visit even quipped "we're all friends here", something I chuckled at and kind of agreed with when I took a moment to think about it on one of my donuts. Now, you do pay 4 plus tax for 1 donut, so if you go, make sure you have money in hand. If you can get past the price and are in Wilton, give this place a try! Update (10/20/23, aka literally the DAY AFTER I posted this review): I came in for my fix and saw that the Maple Sea Salt was not available, so I asked my cashier about the other donuts by pointing and asking. She was more than happy to tell me which each were so that I knew what I was getting. I was today years old when I heard of a Blueberry Lemon donut, and while that sounded good, I went for an Apple Fritter (I.e. the reason for this update since I had still yet to try one). Let me tell you, the Apple Fritter is ALL worth the hype! It had a sweet crunch to it, and you can definitely taste the apples. Just an all around great addition to their menu. Stumbled across Rise via social media and decided to check them out one Sunday morning. They are situated in an adorable, old building in what looks like a great center of town. A few small shops, but an even better walking trail! I will definitely be wearing my sneakers and checking out some of those walking spots down the street. The donuts were good! I ordered one of each - SO fresh and some still warm. In fact they had just run out of the chocolate one but told me to wait 2 min when the next batch was coming out.
