Believe the hype! This review is for the organic shaved ice only. The organic syrups are made from only fresh fruit and sugar cane and has none of the over sugar syrup taste. It is amazing. However you only get two flavor choices. They do offer the traditional syrups for a dollar less, but why would you ever choose them? So in my initial review I gave it a one star rating due to the experience with an employee. Here's my first review: So a couple of us were sitting on a small folding bench next to the riptide stand while a couple of us were already in line to order. An Asian lady, maybe in her 40s came and told us this is my bench. She literally took the bench along with an open can of orange soda and put it behind the riptide stand and sat on it. In short we left because of her rudeness. I would not spend money to support such a rudely run business. Shortly after I posted the above review and reached out to the actual owner via Facebook, I am amending this to five stars and giving the owner the benefit of the doubt (based on our interaction). In short the owner was very appreciative of my feedback and assured me that the employees actions are not representative of what she expects and took ownership of what happened. When I get a chance to return to Kauai, I will definitely take her up on her invitation to return and try Riptides. read more

There are so many choices for flavorings, even offering organic choices. You can add ice cream and toppings for an extra charge. I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for shave ice. Riptides is a cute little shack across from Lawa'i Beach and I doubt we would have found it but I ended up running by it earlier in the day. After a quick check on Yelp, we were able to see that you could get the usual syrup but then they also had organic stuff that they made themselves with real fruit and cane sugar. On the day that we were there it was somewhat busy and they had two people working on the inside. For our shave ice on this day we went with a lilikoi and creamy coconut, in their organic flavors. Both of the workers said that was their favorite favor combination as well. Then my wife and I waited about 45 minutes for it to be made. Granted there was a group of girls and a family who had ordered before us but it was still a long wait and the three people that had ordered hot food after us were long gone before we had our shave ice. Once we finally got it, I have to admit that the syrups themselves would have gotten 5 stars by themselves. The coconut was creamy and terrific while the lilikoi had a nice sharpness to it but not over the top. There were also two layers of the syrups which was good since the syrup penetration at the top wasn't too great. As for the ice itself, I think it was good. However, the person making ours packed it too tight and so getting a spoon into it without flicking it elsewhere was actually difficult. Further down though it was nice and light and good. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future, but only if it wasn't busy. Our 45 minute wait for a shave ice was a lot and the outside was packed too tightly but their organic flavors are definitely the real deal. read more

So I got SF Hibiscus-Passion Fruit, SF Dragon Fruit-Açaí, SF Mermaid Tropical Citrus. They had lots of cooked options (similar to a state fair!) but a lot of bagged snacks, too.
