Located in the heart of an outdoor mall with plenty of parking. They limit the number of people entering as the place is small and without indoor seating. There are benches outside. Staff lethargic. Unwelcoming. No smiles. Not a good first impression!! Shaved ice underwhelming, overpriced, and flavor of Mango or Taro undetectable. Served in small bowls that allows shaved ice to spill over. Won't recommend and will look for other places serving shaved ice when back in Kauai. read more

Absolutely LOVED Uncle's shaved ice. We came here a total of 3 times to try different flavors. Although the photos look like it's some genetic carnival snow cone, these are much more than that. The ice is very fine and the flavors are also really unique such as lilikoi, Guava, Melon, Lychee, etc. The best part though is the Mac Nut ice cream on the bottom which goes so well with the shaved ice. We tried. 1. Island Nectar: Tried this first and it was incredible! Huge enough to feed 2 people easily. My fiance and I loved the Lilikoi and Guava the most. 2. Noka'ai: Also super good! I liked the coconut flavor and how creamy it was by my fiance doesn't really like coconut so we felt the Island Nectar was slightly better but it's all flavor dependent on what you like. 3. Custom: We decided we liked the three flavors Melon, Guava and Lilikoi the best with a cream cap and Mac Nut ice cream. This combo was the best! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, the entire shaved ice is so worth it for $11. It was so refreshing and it goes so well with the ice cream. A must try! read more

The worst shaved ice I have ever had. There was practically no flavor, the syrups tasted very watered down, I kept waiting for the flavor to improve but it never did. My brother thought the ice itself was not good quality water and had an odd flavor. I got the cream cap which also had no flavor and did nothing. The service was good enough, the guy working was nice. There wasn't really anything for ambience as it's just a tiny walk-in shop, one group at a time. If you want a good shaved ice just go a couple miles down the road for a way better spot!!! read more

This is a must check out shave ice. So many unique and delicious flavors with all syrups made in house. Even the custom ice blocks are made in house. We went here two times and tried multiple flavors including pina colada, Hawaiian rainbow, and many others. Get one with ice cream at the bottom it really is next level. Service is a little slow because they custom make each one and there is usually a line out the door. They only allow 1 party in at a time but it's well with the wait. They are also super friendly. The place itself is a small shop so there is only outside seating but I highly recommend trying this shave ice on your next visit. read more

It's more a 4.5 than 5, but I didn't just want to give 4. It's mostly about the Shave consistency for me, and this was composer and soft with no icy parts. They had great flavor combinations with great mac nut ice cream. It was served in a bowl, not a cup so much less messy than typical. All should be served this way!!! read more

Was having lunch and saw this shaved ice spot - thought we'd give it a try to see how good it is (and how it compares to Ululani's). Service was fine, everyone waits outside until it's your turn to order (which is nice). The shaved ice itself was average, nothing to write home about. The shaved ice was icy and not super fine. Which then doesnt absorb the syrup as well. Would not come back. read more

My first shaved ice experience on the island of Kauai, so I can't compare it to the others on the island, but it was better than anything I have ever gotten in the states FOR SURE. The shaved ice was so soft and melted in your mouth. The flavors were great and lasted the whole time. Here, they shave ice in one layer, then add flavor, then add more layers of ice, then top off with more flavor. All my experiences in the past with shaved ice is that there is always just plain ice at the bottom, but not here!! Pricing is on the higher end, but the sizes are very generous. I would share between at least one other person or even two. I shared with my husband and we barely could get through it all. Staff was friendly when we were there, but felt a little rushed since the location we went to was so small and there was a big line. It very much a take and go kind of place. Keep that in mind when you go! read more

I always come here when in Kauai because they have macadamia nut ice cream as an option in their Hawaiian shaved ice. Sooo yummy. Nit picky stuff, but I always wish the ice cream was a little more accessible from the first bite. I like bites with somewhat equal parts ice cream and shaved ice, but this one is stacked so high you really have to dig to get to the ice cream and then the ice starts falling all over the place lol. Overall though would recommend mac nut ice cream with some tropical syrup flavors. read more

Let me start by saying we are a family that really takes our shave ice seriously. My husband used to work for a shave ice place while in college, and likes to consider himself somewhat of a connoisseur. The service was fine and friendly, and it's just a little place where you order and go sit at some sticky tables outside. The shave ice itself is where things went wrong. No flavor at all. If you've ever had the sugar free flavors, that is what this was kind of like but worse. My husband joked they used the "Sam's Club syrups". This was our first shave ice stop getting to Kauai and thought oh no, this better not be how everywhere else is. read more

Fun, novelty item! The line is long, but it is a nice treat for a hot Hawaiian afternoon! There are TONS of flavors to choose from - some are unique to the area. Uncle's is an awesome place in Kauai! While the wait time is slow, and only one party is allowed in at a time, it is totally worth it! My family and I went there twice, and it was great both times! The first time my husband and daughter had Blue Raz and Tigers Blood (coconut & watermelon) and the second time had Blue Hawaiian (coconut and Blue Raz) and Bahamma Mamma (coconut cherry). According to my daughter, they both tasted delicious and she would 100% recommend it! Inside of the shop isn't much, just the necessities, but it gets the job done. The workers are amazing and I will visit every time I'm in Kauai. read more

I was super excited to have a shave ice place close to where we were staying. I've had some great shave ice on Kauai and sadly they fell short of all of them. The flavors we tried (piña colada and strawberries & cream combinations) we sickeningly sweet and artificial tasting. They were decent sized and well made though. The store smells a bit of rotten fruit but was otherwise clean. The staff was pretty terse, not rude, but it seemed visibly annoyed that customers showed up. read more

Very small location which only allows a couple of people in at a time. My first ever shave ice was pretty good. After trying a few more on vacation this shaved ice was probably average. My low score was for the lack of service from their employee l. I was the only customer in the shop the employee never acknowledged me. I finally spoke up and ordered my shaved ice. When she gave to me there were no words spoken again. When I went to pay again no words not even a thank you. My wife actually thought maybe she was deaf because she never once said one word the entire transaction period read more

Shave ice craving fulfilled! Went here after dinner and got me some yummy shave ice. Staff was friendly and helpful. And they do have a limit of one group in the shop at a time, which was kind of nice. Menu option allows for you to order a preset shave ice or create your own - so I created my own. For me lilikoi + pineapple + guava over mac nut ice cream. It's pretty refreshing. read more

Fast friendly service with a delicious menu. Several places to sit right outside, no seating inside.

One of the things that must be experienced when coming to any of the islands in Hawaii is...Shave Ice. That being said, on Kauai today in Koloa, my entire family was disappointed in their shave ice at Uncle's today. The staff did mention which was their most popular. We decided to try other samplings. The size was plentiful, however, each of our shave ices had zero flavor. I was expecting a burst of flavor from my berry shave ice, but none came until I dug down to the bottom to look for the fresh strawberry. Even then...pretty blah. Uncle's has a brilliant location here in an outdoor mall. Now if they could only match their flavors to their location. read more

Staff was rude. There was this sign that says return at 4pm.. there was a small like outside the door at 3:58pm so i waited in line.. one group went in before us and then when we walked in at 4:02pm.. once we walked in she said "I'm only serving the group in front of you and then closing." She was so rude and then when i said "but your sign says return at 4pm" she cut me off and said "I'm not serving you, we are closed." And then i walked by 10 minutes later and she was just sitting there behind the counter. She was unbelievably rude. Makes me wonder if she didn't want to serve me for other reasons.. This was on 12/23/24 at 4pm ish. Hate to leave a bad review on a small business but this was off putting. read more

As far as shave ice goes, Uncle's is very good. On a hot day, the ice and syrups are refreshing. For my shave ice, I chose a combo called Noka'oi which has melon and coconut syrups, fresh bits of pineapple, macadamia nut ice cream, and a sweet cream topping for $11. Another combo that I was able to try was Verry Berry which has raspberry strawberry and cherry syrups, fresh bits of strawberry that were tart, and a sweet cream cap for $8.50. When ordering, only one group can be inside the shop at a time. If there is a line outside the door, the line moves fairly quickly because ice creams (you get a choice between vanilla or macadamia nut) are already scooped out into a bowl and stored in the freezer. If you want to eat at the outside tables, they are not cleaned regularly so they can be sticky. After enjoying our treat, there are clean bathrooms in this shopping complex. read more

Quite possibly the worst shave ice I have ever had. From the minute we tried it, it was obvious that the shave ice was loosely piled into the bowl and needed a bit of packing down. The entire mound of loosely piled shave ice was melted in approximately 4 minutes of walking out of the shop and back to the car. Felt like going back to ask for a refund. My honest rating would be one star. But my daughter said two stars because she enjoyed drinking almost the entire thing LOL. read more

Ice was fairly chunky, flavors tastes watered down/bland and although the serving size is big (there is only 1 serving size)... it would be nice to have smaller options at a less expensive price point ($8.50 each). Also, the employee working was less than friendly. read more

Partook in the SI offering at the Uncles. A bit different than experienced before, the offerings can have ice cream in the center surrounded by the Shave ice. The tastes were very good and the variety of construction is myriad, although only one of us created our own and the others had the a strawberry and cream - vanilla ice cream - and the others had the tropical - macadamia nut center. It's not inexpensive but the ice cream is a nice addition. read more

Not bad, not great, but not a place for memories. Last time was maybe four stars if I was being generous. Today, a solid three at best. Staff was helpful and caring, but the shave ice just wasn't right. Dare I say snow cone quality? Toppings were average, but under layer of ice cream was skimpy and could have been plain vanilla vs supposedly macadamia nut. Not as good, no line outside should have been a clue. read more
