As someone born and raised in Hawai'i, shave ice is one of those things where I unfortunately become insufferable. I don't make the rules. I tried a bunch of highly rated spots around Poipu and kept having that same experience where you take one bite and immediately think, "Oh... this is for tourists." But JoJo's? THIS was the closest thing to home for me. The ice was actually soft and fluffy like real shave ice should be, and the flavors tasted nostalgic in the best way. One bite immediately transported me back to hanabada days. Also, after I rolled up in muddy-ass clothes, sis working there took one look at me and hit me with the kamaʻāina discount without hesitation . That honestly healed something in me. This place is kinda standard when it comes to shave ice. I was a bit confused by their preset flavors, but just look at the picture and don't let them pressure you into ordering right away if you don't know what you want. JoJo's absolutely nails the shaved ice. I went with the root beer float - vanilla ice cream on the bottom, fluffy shaved ice on top, plus macadamia nuts and mochi. It was so good my taste buds briefly filed a workers' comp claim. The kids ordered the Lilo & Stitch special and attacked it with the focus and determination usually reserved for Olympic athletes. The only thing keeping this from five stars was the service. Our cashier appeared to be conducting an intense internal audit of every decision she'd made since middle school. I left a generous tip, received no thank you, and got the distinct impression she was about thirty seconds away from staring into the middle distance and contemplating existence. One other thing I've noticed around this part of Kauai: tiny Jesus figurines. They're everywhere. Cash registers. Counters. Shelves. Food stands. At this point I'm half convinced miniature Jesus is the island's official health inspector. Still, the shaved ice was outstanding. This place was just okay--more of a snow cone instead of shave ice. The flavors were a bit artificial tasting, but again, it was alright. The biggest issue that I want to make people aware of if they go here is that all of the shave ice are advertised as with vanilla ice cream included with them. However, this is an add on and they charge you extra for the ice cream without asking you, but it is shown in the picture as part of the fixed price. We had to look at our total on the screen to realize that they charged us for the vanilla ice cream for each shave ice. We had to ask them to remove it. We just want others to be aware that the ice cream as pictured in the menu is NOT included and you will be charged extra. We won't be back. It was quite expensive for just an average, more of a snow cone type dessert, and we didn't appreciate the false advertising. read more

Got me some shave ice after grabbing some grindz at porky's and oooooweeeee. I asked the pretty wahines behind the counter to surprise me as long as there was lihing mui alll over that thanggg. And ooo mission accomplished brah. Idek what flavor shave ice they did, but as you can see, they threw down some lihing powda + some kine lihing sauce over the shave ice. This is probably one of the worst dessert places you can go to in Kauai. We got the mango passionfruit shaved ice, and it was drenched in colored syrup. I don't know who made this, but they completely filled it with the syrup and the second you pick it up, it would spill all over your hands. I couldn't even move it off the counter without a dripping everywhere. We did our best to clean it up, but as we kept moving, it kept spilling. On top of all this, it was impossible to eat. The flavor wasn't even good for what we could eat and I would not return again here. There's 1 million other better places to go in Kauai to get dessert. Don't waste your time read more

Visited 2 years ago and there were 3 stores. Now there are 5. The only difference is that prices were lower and they replaced macadamia nut ice cream w vanilla. You can add macadamia nuts for a dollar. I recommend any of the shave ice that have Haupia cream on top. read more

Wow this place lives up to the hype. Delicious flavors and combo of ice cream and shaved ice is magic!

Some of the most delicious shave ice I've ever had. The ice is very thinly shaved and the syrups are full of flavor. Highly recommend getting your bowl "local style" which adds macadamia nuts and small pieces of mochi for an added two dollars. The vanilla ice cream at the bottom of the bowl mixes well with the syrups and adds a layer of richness not always found in shave ice. JoJo's shaved ice in Kōloa is the perfect stop for a sweet treat after dinner! It's a small little ice cream/shaved ice parlor and we've been twice already during our trip so far. Good service and cute little beach/surf shop atmosphere. We will be back to JoJo's before we head home! read more
