My family and I decided to go to RinCon Criollo during a layover for our trip in Miami. It was the closest place without driving to far from the airport. We only had an hour. We found RinCon Criollo by accident because we were driving around looking for Starbucks. When we first arrived the first thing that we noticed was the parking. They had a personal parking lot for just their customers and then they had some street parking it can be a little confusing because there are cars everywhere but the restaurant didn't have very many people. We sat at table a little ways from the door. Which was great for our party. We ended up ordering chicken empanadas, a potato cake and fries! Everything was really good and the pricing was reasonable. Our server was okay, she seemed like she was just there not enthusiastic but not mean either. The restaurant was decent. It seemed like a little whole in the wall nothing really spectacular about it. The bathroom was clean and there was plenty of soap and paper towels. I am unsure how much the bill was because my sister in law picked it up! But I am sure it wasn't too bad. This restaurant is really good. I think it gets slept on because of its location. It's right by the Miami airport so it's hard to get to. They also don't have many people here that speak English but if you get past those two things it's really good. I worked in Miami for a month and it was my breakfast spot every morning. It was just that good. The other good thing is that if you're into cigars they have a really good selection. It's kind of an underrated feature of this restaurant. I love it because I can get 5-7 South American cigars for less than $25. That's a steal for anyone who regularly smokes cigars. read more

Great spot for some good home-made Cuban food. During my visit in the area, I stopped by a few times and always left satisfied. The food is tasty and fresh, the prices are great, and the portions are generous. I tried some of their breakfast egg dishes, coffee, papa rellena (stuffed potato), their fried chicken and rice, Cuban sandwich and rice pudding: all very tasty. The waitressing staff are very rude and racist if you aren't Spanish .. every morning I come to this establishment no one speaks to me even tho I can speak the native language . This is an absolute hidden GEM! My wife and I were in the hotel down the street and took a less then 5 minute walk. Once we were seated, we were greeted by one of the owners (Julia) who spoke english and who not only went above and beyond to help us decide what we wanted to order, but gave us a couple samples. The dinner was absolutely wonderful and the caramel flan was divine. The whole experience gave us an authentic look at what Cuban delicatesse is and it did not dissapoint in any way. You could tell Julia had a lot of pride in their restaurant. She told us her parents owned it and she remembers (now over 30) running around in the kitchen at age 10. I will tell you one thing about this place that left us with a forever longing to return if we find ourselves in Miami again... THEIR COFFEE!! She gave us two versions and this place made literally the best coffee I had ever had in my life. Prior best coffee was in Costa Rica and this surpassed it by miles. I came here because it had 4 stars with lots of reviews so I thought it must be good. I walked in around 645pm with my friends and immediately was asked if I could sit outside because they were cleaning. I told her it's too cold and I don't want to sit outside. I should have left! We order our food and drinks which came out in less than 10 mins. Everything we ordered sucked, it was drier than the Sahara desert, even the white rice was dry and with no flavor. I don't understand the 4 star review. Maybe it's for the breakfast, you can't screw up eggs. Another thing, I ordered salad dressing in Spanish (they only seem to speak Spanish) for my friend, the lady told me they didn't have any just oil and vinegar so when the other lady came by I asked her in Spanish for the same she brought out salad dressing from a bag that usually comes in salad bags you buy in grocery stores. The service was as equally bad and they have the audacity to automatically charge you 15% gratuity and a service fee without even notifying you when they bring the check. I'm sure they do this because they probably haven't gotten tips in the past for their terrible service. So they figured let's add it on. What could have been done better: Don't mop in front of customers. That's disgusting. Change the hours on all social media from 10 pm to 7 or 8pm. I would have never gone if I knew it was Close to closing hours. I don't like to be rushed while eating. If language is limited learn what your restaurant offers both in English and Spanish, so when a customer ask for it you can get it and not say we only have...... Since you're automatically charging a gratuity work for it, tips are not mandatory and finally inform the customer. I had read about the charges, some food issues and language in the reviews. This place may look a bit ghetto from the outside and even a little run-down in the inside but you're not coming here for the decor, you'r here for the FOOD. I highly recommend ordering their Cubano sandwich. For $5.50, you would be stuffed with a HUGE sandwich filled with meat, cheese, and pickles. And when in Miami, you've gotta have a Cubano! This is one place that's doing it right. I also had their daily special that comes with three sides. I would say the side portions are a bit smaller than the ones you get when you order the sides individually but regardless, with so much food for under $8, you're going to be rolling out of the restaurant! The banana chips are actually homemade and how do I know that? Because the banana chips were a bit soggy from the oil frying... it may have been better if they double fried their banana chips? Or maybe if they dried the bananas better before and after the fry 'em? Anyways, what do I know about cooking banana chips? So skip the banana chips side and go for the fried sweet plantains instead, you will definitely not regret this choice! I ordered it each time I came to this restaurant! My only issue is that the majority of the waitresses only speak Spanish and I do not know a single word in Spanish. I recommend maybe bring Google Translate with you to help your dialogue or use extremely simple English (such as, "this, this, and not this") so they'll understand what you're saying. I came here because it has 4/5 stars on Yelp and I was in the area. My experience was a lot different apparently, than the majority of the reviews I read. Customer service was very close to non-existent and when they did attend my group, it seemed like they were being forced to be a server and didn't want to be there. My Cuban sandwich took almost 30+ minutes to get to me after I ordered. I thought, hey it's a sandwich, it will come out fast, so I ordered that, but it was so slow that I'm glad I didn't order anything more complicated. They were acting like they had some kind of shortage on those little potato sticks that pretty much everyone serves with this kind of meal, because I LITERALLY got about a tablespoons worth of them.... like why even serve that if you can't afford to even give a proper serving?
