Making up my mind on Rinata is hard. Yelp should introduce the concept of half stars, there are so many times like now, where I would probably like to add half a star. We used to live a few blocks away from Rinata so we had always discussed about trying this place out and it finally happened to be tonight :) It seemed like a cozy Italian restaurant and like most of them, the interiors was pretty dim. The service was prompt, we were seated almost immediately and given our menu, water and the waiter came back in a few minutes to check on us. Also all that we ordered came out pretty quickly. The red wine we ordered was pretty nice too ( comes from person who ain't a fan of red wine). The 3 stars is because none of the food that we ordered blew our mind. The bruschetta, ravioli and cappellinni were all just ok. The Cappellinni was probably the better one, had some good flavor to it. The ravioli was slightly rubbery and the bruschetta was quite a disappointment. Yes bruschetta is bread + tomato but when done right it bursts with flavors in your mouth. This felt like a tomato slapped on some Italian bread. We always love to order dessert in Italian places but with almost all the dishes disappointing we decided to skip the dessert menu. There is a decent number of good Italian places in Twin Cities, so probably not coming back here for a while. read more

Rinata has the most authentic restaurant vibes as far as environment and decor go. The decor was minimal, the restaurant was clean and the environment was intimate. This has been on our restaurant list for quite awhile. We've been wanting to go to their Date Night Special on Sunday night. The date night consists of 4 courses - antipasti, salad, entree and dessert. It does not include a beverage. If you like everything on their date night menu, then this is a great deal. If you don't, then it's not so much. The good thing is that one person from your table can do the date night and the other doesn't have to. The food was mediocre. The service was great. Completely unacceptable. I don't know how I got fooled into believing the high bar set by other Yelpers, but this place just does not cut it. I was downright embarrassed that I chose Rinata as the dinner venue for my party of seven. Simply put, I don't know what they're selling here. The atmosphere? The service? The originality? In any case, they are definitely not selling good food. The menu is barebones. They've got appetizers, salads, pizzas, and pastas. Nothing that comes across as overly special or unique. The portion sizes are even more barebones. When the plates came out, the only response at our table was sarcastic laughter from seven people. It was just that unbelievable. Prices? Didn't look so bad at first, but with all things considered, it definitely hurt. Beers were $6. Side salads start at $7. Personal pizzas go for $9-11. Small pasta servings you're looking at $15+. Not so affordable. Okay, I read the website. I know what the values are here. But none of that translates to the dining experience, so that doesn't do anyone any good. To me, cute and cozy in Uptown aren't excuses to cut slack in the staple requirements of a restaurant. Mr. Hunt, if you take any pride in your business, rethink what you're offering to people. Amazing restaurant. We got the calamari, margarita pizza, and bucatini pasta, and scope of homemade ice cream. Everything tasted awesome. The Calamari had amazing flavor and cooked just right. The sauce was so good we were dipping bread in it. The pizza was also amazing. You can really taste the fresh ingredients. The bucatini had really bold flavor and very savory. I read reviews about the ice cream and it definitely did not disappoint. Also, you probably think I'm crazy for saying this but they have really good tasting water! I'm from Seattle and Minnesota water tastes horrible to me so when I find a place that has good water, it is a big plus. read more

We made a reservation on a Saturday night, I really like that you can reserve a spot and a time online because I got updates and reminders on my phone. The restaurant itself is quite small but the environment and ambiance is really nice. We ordered a margarita pizza and spaghetti... both were absolutely delicious. They make all of their noodles and omg they were so good. The margarita pizza was very tasty, they do not skimp on the mozzarella which I appreciate. We were given fresh focaccia with oil and what I would think olive tapenade is and it was amazing. Tiramisu for dessert was the perfect way to round out the night. By eating on a cold winter evening, the windows fogged up the view and the fluorescent lightening of the gas station across the street. I always thought this was the problem when it was Giorgio's so I'm interested to see what it's like without the ambiance of steam and frost in the winter. Popular place right now, that's for sure. Dropping in can be problematic while budget-dining is the rave, so I'd recommend reservations. The food is good for the price. We were recommended the salami pizza, saying it had a kick of heat. The kick missed us. It was ok, but I wished I had ordered the sausage fennel. I had the pancetta, pea and mushroom pasta. It was filling and pretty good as well. There was no skimping on the ingredients. The pasta itself is good as well. Tablemate ate a tomato-based pasta dish that he like pretty well, too. 5 stars for a few reasons. 5 stars for actual service. They were really short staffed and actually were pretty attentive. It is a small place but to hit everyone was good from my POV. We started with the bruschetta and got the two different ones they have and both were great. The Caesar salad was big and split it. I loved it and I also loved they have fresh ground pepper which is the key to life when you eat Caesar Salad. The interim of bread and olive oil with balsamic and tomato tapenade was also great. The wine selections were fairly decent but I would also like to see more but I get they probably can't house much as it is a smaller space. My dish was great and full of flavor. I believe my noodles and sauce were homemade and I ate every bit of it. Cute quaint place good for a date or just a fun night out. We had 8 of us and enjoyed the evening. read more

I tried to take some of the bread together with this, but the bread was also salted, so I only ate 2 bites of this appetizer - Salad: Fine, refreshing after that salty start - Bucatini: I loved the pasta with this. I wasn't familiar with this type of pasta before but was pleased by its chewiness and thick strands. It came with their signature tomato sauce and while good with a nice spicy kick, I found it, again, wayyy too salty. I went through so many waters during this meal! - For dessert, I had the pear sorbet, which was delicious and refreshing after the saltiness of this meal. I liked this dessert a lot, actually. I've also had their paparadelle dish another time..... I wish I had gotten instead.... Overall: I think they tend to oversalt their dishes (I was so salt-bloated the next day), but they do have good flavors. Ok so I went to Rinata because I got a car in the mail for a free $14 dinner with another of the same value. The setting was great I am a guy that grew up in SW mpls by the lakes. It was cozy and warm. The bar was cool and like another reviewer I loved the little window into the kitchen so you can see the food cooking. My wife and I split the squash and goat cheese soup it was terrific. Before the soup came we had bread and a little plate of olive oil and olive pate. It was great. My wife had a glass of red wine that she liked and I had water because I was driving. I had the radatori pasta with chicken and olives and my wife had the spaghetti with meat balls. Both were very good. I want to go back on a night when they have the squash ravioli as they only serve it on some nights of the week. I think the price was fair, the service was good, the setting was very nice and cozy, if you are used to parking in the city it was fine, and it was a fun new place to try. WOW!! What a wonderfully intimate restaurant with fantastic cocktails and excellent food! I came here on Sunday evening for a girlfriend's birthday, and took advantage of the "Date Night Tasting Menu": 4 courses for $25. What a deal for the quality!! I loved how nobody was in a hurry. We must have been there for 3-4 hours, and nobody was trying to move us along. I also enjoyed that there was time between courses, and plates were cleared in between. After taking our drink orders, the waiter brought out freshly made bread with olive oil and tapenade. I definitely ate too much of that, but bonus, I had left overs for the next day! For the ANTIPASTI, all 5 of us had the bruschetta with marinated artichokes and goat cheese. One friend asked for no goat cheese and they were happy to make that adjustment for her. There were two options for the SALAD: Caesar and a mixed greens with beets, parmesan crisp, and dijon vinaigrette. I ordered the Caesar which was far too spicy for my taste (but I'm a heat wimp!). Next time I will have the mixed greens. I tasted my friend's mixed greens and it was the most amazing salad I have ever had. The birthday girl and I both ordered a different ENTRE and shared. The Nero fetuccine alla putanesca with shrimp, olives, capers, anchovy, and black noodles was pretty darn good. I didn't realize the fettucine was going to be black (squid ink), however, which was surprising and a little fishy tasting, but it was definitely exciting to try something new! We also had the Bucatini all' Amatriciana with pancetta, tomato, and garlic. Our waiter suggested putting a meatball with it, which I could have done without. It was really salty from the pancetta, but quite good nonetheless. I liked how the noodles were thick and al dente. I enjoyed how chewy it was, although it's not for everyone. Again, both dishes were spicy, but it didn't take away from the flavors for me. Next time I will have the Bucatini and not share. For DESSERT, we all ordered the chocolate sambuca tiramisu with creme anglaise. Yum. It did taste a little different from what I was expecting, but I presume that was probably the sambuca. We've walked by rinata a million times so obviously I've always wanted to check it out. We went last night for restaraunt week (30 dollar sampling menu) and it was great! I started with the caprese salad which was sooo delicious followed by the dish with elk sausage (i forgot what it's called). That was also pretty good. Next was the salmon... It was okay but maybe its because I don't like butter and oranges mkxed together and that made up the sauce. For dessert I had the vanilla bean gelato which was amazing. My boyfriend had the salad as well. He then had the fettucine (yum!!) and the steak. Unfortuantely the steak was burnt :( but the tiramisu at the end made up for it! Quick update after having tried their weekend brunch. We came here to try their brunch for the first time last weekend, and it was great. I ordered the Meatball Hash with two eggs and my bf ordered Biscuit, fennel sausage and gravy with scrambled eggs. Both orders came in smallish looking bowls, but dont let that small looking bowl fool you cos it was plenty of food. My meatball has came with lots of tasty meatballs and a lot of nice chunks of potatoes. The sauce in the hash was also pretty yummy. The only thing I regret was that I didnt order a side of toast to soak up all the sauce. My bf's dish was also pretty good, but i think mine was better. :D read more

We tried Rinata for the first time (carry out) about a month ago and ordered again last week. I am in LOVE with their Verdura pizza! The lobster gnocchi is equally great (cream sauce is perfect for dipping bread in). My husband has ordered their fennel sausage pizza both times and has been really happy with it. The moment you enter the restaurant, you get a European vibe, small wooden tables and chairs and the entire place feels cozy with the various artwork hanging around. The food is also extremely good! The Spaghetti Puttanesca will be my recommendation. The shrimp is cooked very beautifully, and the sauce feels superb. The bruschetta is an amazing appetizer to go for. We came here for my husband's birthday celebration on an early Sunday evening. Bright and cheerful setting. We ordered 3 appetizers, the prosciutto wrapped peaches, eggplant and baked feta. The eggplant and its accompanying sauce was my favorite. Excellent cocktails and salads. My husband got the carbonara which was amazing. My mint pappardelle with the lamb ragout was impossibly good, lick the plate good. Our guests' lobster gnocchi was a close second for me. The ravioli also delicious. Becca, our server, made the night very special, very attentive, friendly and informative. She recommended the best pairing of a cab franc for our lava cake and tiramisu desert and it was perfect. Wow! Last minute decision to eat out late Sunday night. Made a reservation online and were seat d immediately when we arrived. Host greeted us told us about the menu items. Our host brought fresh baked focaccia with olive oil and a dollop of kalamata olive tapanade to get us started and it was amazing. We shared a Ceasar salad that was really authentic. We had a spaghetti and meatballs, spaghetti with shrimp and mussels, and a chicken with rigatoni and a white sauce. All were fantastic, pasta was cooked perfectly, and it came out quickly. After we shared a Tiramisu that really topped off the night. We will definitely be back. FYI there is a tiny sign in front of the restaurant that says that there is parking in the back. We didn't see it but parking could probably otherwise be a problem at a busier time of the week. read more

Whenever I treat myself to food delivery, I always order dinner from Rinata. Their fettuccine alla carbonara is easily the best carbonara I've ever had. Also, they always include a few slices of warm, fresh baked herb bread along with their olive oil mixed with fresh olives. This is the best part! What I cam say, unequivocally, is that the service was A1. Amazing bottles of wine, suggested by our server, and not the most expensive on the menu. Bummer they didn't have more than 2 decanter's, but we survived! Started with a Margherita Pizza....great taste, great as an appetizer, but definitely not substantial enough for a full meal. Caesar Salad was SO "garlicy" it was too spicy to eat. I had the Fettucini with Spicy Shrimp...pasta was cooked to perfection, but there was SO much "spice" it overtook the entire dish. Got take out tonight and was soooo happy we did. The prosciutto pizza was on point with flavor and the salty goodness of shaved prosciutto. The spaghetti and meatballs were a comfort to hungry eyes. The sauce is a mellow balance of richness and not the usual acidic sauce you get. The meatballs are not to dense and very moist. Not overly spiced and complimented the mellow sauce. Big surprise was the tapenade that came with the focaccia loaf. By far the best tapenade I have come across and will be back to try more of their menu. Rinata is our staple when we are craving some pasta and a delicious Caesar salad for a reasonable price. The salad has so much garlic that I absolutely crave it!! It's a large size and can easily be shared by two people. Their entrées rotate and I have heard their pizzas are great. My go to is their fettuccini with shrimp; but honestly all of their options are typically spot on. Intimate, great service!! Dine here at Mid. May before daughter's school year over and heading to Florence. I had a compliment wine coupon form joining to receive the newsletter, so I used it with my meal this time. (suggest everybody join it.) Foods are great. I love my Gnocchi with garlic rubbed ribeye bleu cheese cream and spiced almonds. The portion was just right to me, but might be a little bit less for guy. I like their foods but I need a little bit larger space from table to tale. Maybe that was just me, but I feel tight. That's why I gave 3 stars only. It feels like I have no privacy at all, I have to KNOW every detail of what people were talking around my table. I've been to Rinata about 3 times so far and I've only ordered one dish which is the spaghetti and meatballs. Let me convince you that they have the best meatballs in the world. Hands down. Also, the pasta is freshly made in the kitchen and you can absolutely tell when you're eating it. I know they have several different items on their menu but I can't get away from the meatballs. I didn't know how much I didn't know pasta until I came here. I'll start with the atmosphere. Quaint, dim, warm, cozy, romantic. It was absolutely perfect for a date night or an anniversary dinner. It was quiet enough that you could hear the other person speaking but not so quiet that I could hear others. The decor is wonderful and you really just feel comfortable and warm. Our server was super sweet, attentive, and amazing - 5 starts for her! She brought out a very full basket of soft and great bread with olive dip, which was so so good to start out with wine. I didn't have to speak loudly for the server to hear me and the menu is perfectly readable and gives a good idea of what the dish would be comprised of. What it doesn't tell you is how addicting it would be and how beautifully it would be made. I didn't know this before coming there, but they make all of their pasta in house and boy can you taste that. We ordered the Nero fettucini and the Pappardelle with braised boar. The seafood pasta was a little on the salty side, but not annoyingly. Mine was the braised boar pappardelle, and let me tell you - it has been a year since I had that amazing Pappardelle and I often think about that dish on a regular basis. I've never had that happen with any dish I've had before except this one - soft, tender meat that was seasoned with something from the gods, with the most delicious "I don't want this experience to end' kind of pasta. It's so incredibly savory, with the utmost perfect portion. I had an amazing experience here and now I wait for a really really special occasion to come here so it remains special!! read more

This place is a bit of kept secret. In years past, I didn't love the food, but my last visit really changed my mind. The complimentary bread is fresh and comes with a lovely olive tapenade. The pasta is homemade, delicious and perfectly cooked (and with blessedly normal proportions). I had the bucatini, which was nice and chewy with a very flavorful tomato sauce. My friend had the parpadelle with ragu, which was also beautifully cooked. The decor is nothing special, but it's cozy. It somehow feels very home-y and unpretentious. I really appreciate that there are still places like this in Minneapolis, places not concerned about their Instagram image or trying to win a James Beard award, but still producing solid food. I can't say enough how much I love this place. I'm just lucky I live nearby, because I don't know if I ever would have tried this place otherwise. I usually go to buzzed-about places I read about online. (Just to give some context, my dad has been in town three times in the last month (on two ends of a trip, plus a special trip here for the Smokeout put on by MSPMag and the local BBQ joints), and he loves to spend money on food, so in the last 5 weeks I have eaten at Spoon & Stable, Restaurant Alma, The Oceanaire, KUA at Travail Kitchen, P.S. Steak, Fujiya, the aforementioned Smokeout, Revival, plus a Cuban place I don't remember the name of.) (Side note: The Baked Alaska from P.S. Steak is even better than Oceanaire's.) What I've had from Rinata (this was my third time and the 1st time I've gotten take-out) is as good as any food I've enjoyed in the Twin Cities, especially for the price. I've had the vegetable ravioli twice (I just looked at the menu to see what it's called, and I don't see it on there, but I see a butternut squash ravioli that is probably the seasonal replacement). I thought to write this review because I'm sitting at my desk just finishing up my arugula salad that has been sitting in my fridge for over a week (!) and is still fantastic. The bread from this place was so good, my dad and I fought over it, even though there were four large, thick pieces. I saved two pieces to shove into my toaster the next morning to make the world's most amazing breakfast sandwich. The ambience is low-key, nothing fancy, and the second time we visited it was pretty empty. I was with both parents that time, and the manager (owner? I can't remember) came to our table and chatted with us about wine, and it was a great, warm, friendly experience. I'm terrified this place is going to disappear because it doesn't get enough buzz/clientele, and it's hard enough to keep a restaurant going, so please, please, please visit! if you're on the fence, try it! The bread alone will make it worth a trip to Uptown. read more

Rinata is a great Italian restaurant with quality food and great service. Mondays and Tuesdays they offer half off bottles of wine and on Sundays they have a 3-course $25/pp date night menu. It's a small space that's not too crowded, but rather quaint and intimate. The last time we went, we sat at the bar and the bartender was extremely friendly, attentive, and clearly knew what he was doing. The started by bringing us an order of olive tapenade which was too good. For our appetizer, we ordered stuffed peppers which were absolutely divine and the tomato bruschetta. The bruschetta wasn't quite what I was expecting, but it was still very tasty. The Caesar salads were regular. My date got the pappardelle with lamb for his main. The meat was delicious, but the pappardelle was a little too al dente for my taste. I ordered the puttanesca which was cooked perfectly, but (surprisingly) I found it a little too salty between the olives and the capers - and I love olives! There was also just a touch too much sauce on the plate. I've also ordered the carbonara and the amatriciana - both of which were executed very well, despite being very difficult dishes. Rinata is the kind of place that you drive by constantly and remind yourself it's there, which is exactly what we have done for years. Well no more! Finally made it in, and wow, it was so amazing it makes me sad we've waited so long. We stopped in on after 8 and were able to grab rockstar parking right in front of the building. Walked in the front door with about a dozen people total in the place, staff included, which is perfect because it's small and intimate. We skipped an appetizer this evening, although my wife did order the olives with chili flakes for a snack. I'm not a fan of olives so those were all hers. She enjoyed them as there were a medley of both green and black olives. Next they brought out their house bread basket which had a delicious focaccia our server said is made in house daily. Fantastic! Perfectly warm, toasted and crusty. Entrees were up next. She ordered their fettuccine, which normally comes with shrimp, however being allergic, they substituted chicken without an issue. Fantastic and the pasta itself, also made in house, was incredible. It's not your typical alfredo sauce made with cream, but my god the garlic was intense, but not overpoweringly so. I ordered the bucatini, which is a little thicker than spaghetti, but hollow. The sauce itself was tomato and pancetta and the pasta held up to it. Was cooked to al dente perfection and the touch of chili flakes kicked it up to a level of heat that although spicy by some MN palates, didn't overpower the flavor of the ragu. I paired it with a glass of "cashmere" wine, a Grenache blend, that also held up to the spice darn well. After the entrees, we decided on the old menu standby of the chocolate lava cake. Sure the item itself is about 15 years old, but this is also made in house and served with house made vanilla gelato. Also delicious and the chocolate filling was silky smooth. Took about 10 minutes to bake and I tried their Ginger old fashioned while I waited. This is the closest I've found to my personal favorite at Eat Street Social, and I'm wondering if that hint of ginger isn't their secret ingredient as well. Service was spot on, not intrusive and I bounced all my ideas off our server, and he reassured me every step of the way. We had the meatballs, prosciutto pizza, and fettuccine allla carbonara. All three were fantastic. Highly recommend.

Four of us enjoyed a nice Italian dinner here yesterday. We had the focaccia, eggplant appetizer, mista salad, four pasta dishes, wine. Everything was very good. Would come back again in a heartbeat. read more
