The first time special male friend and I ate at this restaurant I thought we were in an old folk's home. We went on like a Tuesday night at about 6 p.m. and were surrounded by the elderly. My first thought was that this did not bode well for the food, but we had amazing mussels, the foccacia bread was delicious, and the Bucatini Amatriciana was amazing. The thing to not miss is the Sundays here. On Sundays Rinata does a 4 course meal for $20. I am very cheap, but I am also a very picky eater, and this was the best deal I've ever seen and experienced for a prix fixe menu. You get a ton of food, there are multiple choices and you're always sure to find one that you're going to like, and you really get your money's worth. My favorite is the eggplant involtini appetizer. I don't know what they put in the sauce, but it is sooooo freaking delicious that my head is exploding just thinking about it. Three words: nom, nom, nom. Conclusion: serious tasty bites. read more

This little gem is nestled in the neighborhood of Uptown close to where my friend lives. We braved a brisk walk (can't imagine what it's like in the dead of winter) and were seated promptly (we had a reservation). Tucked back in the bar section at a high 4 top against the wall we felt secluded and we liked that. Our server seemingly hated us and no amount of smiles or friendly babble could change his mind. Despite that our food was amazing. We started with the Baked Bulgarian Feta with roasted peppers olives and pepperoncini which was a salty dish I could not stop eating. I love feta and this was a flavorful dish which we greedily sopped up with the bread which kept coming out fresh from the kitchen. We also got the Roasted Golden beets with cucumbers Dijon vinaigrette and gorgonzola for a starter. The gorgonzola as usual was a pungent and powerful contrast to the cool cucumbers and mild but flavorful beets. For our mains my friends split the Spaghetti with house made meatballs and tomato sugo and I tried the Spinach Fettuccine with lobster cream and mussels. They loved their pasta but I felt mine was tasty but not the best dish around. Perhaps I should have tried the ravioli instead. The pasta is made in house which is fresh and delicious but something was missing in my dish. We were too full from dessert but overall I really liked this cozy neighborhood gem. Reasonable places and a nicer place for Uptown and also real close to Brave New Workshop to make it a dinner and show night. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but it is a good safe bet for a date or just a chill night out with friends. The space here is kind of tight and man it can be hard to get to the restroom when you are jutted next to so many tables. That being said Rinata does try to create a cozy atmosphere with candles and dim lighting for a romantic atmosphere despite the cramped seating and so many tables close to the door. The butternut squash soup was quite satisfying and the Caesar salad was also pretty good.The bread is also sort of addictive, For pastas. the fettucine with shrimp and calamari hit the spot and was good Italian comfort food. Decent wine list as well. But, most of all I liked the reasonable prices! read more

I am always hard on Italian restaurants because quite honestly a lot of the food my family can make ourselves, and better, and without skimping on anything. Rinata was not at all "bad," but it didn't leave me screaming for more. The food is typical of any non-chain Italian place and I enjoyed it for what it was worth...despite the realization I could have made my own gnocchi etc. Because Italian food is a relatively easy DIY, an Italian place needs to really have something else, ambience-wise, service, anything to stand out. The setting is intimate and on a crowded night you'll be elbow-to-elbow with other patrons. This is fine for what it is, but the romantic/intimate vibe suffers because they close up shop at 10/11pm. Date night, anniversary night, birthday night, ANY night - Rinata is our #1 go-to restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic and I'm a sucker for complimentary low lighting. First, the bread...oh that bread doe. It's hard to decide what's better, the warm, perfectly buttery and seasoned flakey crust or the olive oil tapenade that comes with it. Don't make me choose. My fiancé and I have made dinners out of the bread and Caesar salad on more than one occasion. Everything is home made, including the pasta. The menu changes weekly and according to the season and is consistently phenomenal. The delicious spaghetti and meatballs are always on the menu, as is the molten chocolate cake. My Dad did a bit of circling the block to find a parking spot. Once in the place was fairly empty (got full through out the evening). They served a tasty bread with a olive oil and tapande. The wine bottles were for half price until 6pm so we ordered one of those-shared. Mom: Squash soup and lamb pasta (very good everything was spot on-she did add a touch of salt but she likes extra salt on everything). Dad: Margarita Pizza (he really enjoyed it and didn't share) Me: Squash soup and Micro spring salad with pomegranates (squash soup perfect -not cream based but does have a topping with creamy goat cheese and the salad was a bit heavy on a bitter note at first but the more I ate the more balanced it became-I would order both again for sure). Dessert: Pistachio Gelato for all. (very good-my Dad did mention wishing he was having spumoni from Carbonies instead but that is my dad for ya.) Yummo! Stopped by for Restaurant Week Dinner. I had the eggplant &; goat cheese app, eggplant and ricotta ravioli and the tiramsue for dessert. Everything was very good. They start you off with bread and their own olive oil and katamala olive mix. Service was efficient. They have the smallest kitchen window that is right behind this oddly placed bar. Our table was close so we could see what everyone else was having. It all looked good! This was a great place for date night! Great cozy neighborhood spot in an otherwise hectic area of Uptown. PRO's- Surprisingly good Italian fare at a really reasonable price. The menu leans towards the more rustic but blends a lot of intriguing ingredients. I was a big fan of their crostini w/ duck confit as an antipasti course as well as their risotto entree. My friend ordered the spaghetti with meatballs and i've got to say, it looked really good. Their breads are also really tasty as they bake them in-house. The atmosphere of the restaurant is more on the romantic/quaint side as the space itself is pretty small (best not to bring large groups). CON's- Parking is pretty tight. Rinata is such a cute spot in the middle of the bustling Uptown scene! You definitely aren't sure what to expect when you arrive, but it is more quaint and enjoyable than it looks on the exterrior. Situation in the midst of Uptown's Hennepin Ave, Rinata has this small Italian Bistro feel. Their service is friendly and dependable - never an empty glass! Our server knew the menu and offered suggestions tailored to our liking. The sweet potato ravioli with a brown sugar glaze was outstanding... as was the daily special of gnocchi with shrimp and a lemon garlic sauce. Rinata is definitely a jem hidden in the Uptown chaos. Just ate here tonight with my parents, were on our way to jasmine 26 to try it but I couldn't help but convince my mom that I wanted to try Rinata after all the great reviews. Arrived and were seated at one of the tall tables near the bar area so we didn't have to wait for 25 min for an actual table in the dining area but it was such a cute place with dim lighting and friendly staff. Mom and dad ordered the ahi tuna rissoto with leeks while I ordered the gnocchi with braised beef and balsamic vinegar sauce. Both were AHMAZING. the beef was so tender, portions were just right, leaving me good room for dessert. Surprisingly the wait for the food wasn't long at all considering how many people were there. After reading all the great reviews about the bread, we were surprised when we didn't receive any, and realized we had to ask for it. It was soooo good, fresh, warm, and crispy with a delicious olive oil with bits of olives for the dipping sauce. Definitely couldn't opt out on the dessert menu, especially the homemade gelato. Dad got a tiramisu and despite my waiter telling me his favorite was vanilla, I still got the chocolate caramel walnut. the tiramisu was one of the best i've ever had with not a large amount of ratio of cream to cake and the gelato was to die for! the walnuts were roasted in the gelato, and bits of chocolate truffle like bites were mixed in! Definitely regretted getting only a scoop versus 3 :(. Only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars was b/c our waiter rarely checked on us and we felt a little ignored, but then again we were sitting in the bar area so our waiter was the bartender, so i definitely understand the lack of attention since he had to deal with making drinks for many others at the same time. LOVE LOVE this place. Definitely reasonable prices. Will be back to try new menu options and more dessert. Best pizza I've had in a very long time. It's perfectly proportional (cheese, sauce, and crust), very thin, and crispy. Better pizza that actual pizza restaurants! Everything was homemade- bread, tapenade dipping sauce, pasta and sauce, etc. I had the ravioli with sweet corn filling, pests sauce with lobster, so incredible. We went there spontaneously tonight for a party of 6 because we couldn't get where we were going to go. What a nice surprise! They give you delicious bread with the best salted, herb crust and olive oil with a tapenade. They had vegetarian meatballs so my vegetarian could have spaghetti and meatballs, from salads to pizza we left full and happy! Our server was very nice as well. Love it here! It's the go-to spot for our girls' nights. Fresh baked (and warm) bread with the most amazing Olive Tapenade is a complimentary treat that starts off every meal. Their Caesar Salad is the best I've ever had (which is saying a lot because I'm not typically a salad fan) - the dressing has a little zing/spice to it - so unique and delicious! Lastly, freshly made pasta every day you can't beat. Appreciate that they change their menu up with the seasons, as it's always nice to try new things. Sometimes the service is better than other times - that is my only complaint (I expect spendier restaurants not only to have amazing food, but great service as well). But overall, service hasn't been a huge issue. Ambiance is refreshing and perfect for conversation - darker, candlelit, and perfect for a relaxed time with great food. I love this place - but I have to say the service has gone down the road. The last time I was here was a year and a half ago, and I visited today. comparing it to the last visit, the restaurant was way more busy. I still love all the food - pastas are not overloaded w sauces. just about right to be able to taste all of the ingredients and perfect portions. if you are a big eater, the portions maybe too small, but I believe Americans are eating too much with huge portions of food, so this place is perfect. But it takes too long for each meals to come out - more than 15 for appetizer, another 40 min for entreé, and 20 min for desserts. bottom line - I still love this place. I think it is one of the best italian restaurants in the Twin Cities. Great cute and petit spot for date nights. read more

Food is fine, but the service needs some serious work. They were crowded when we came in, I'm sure because the Living Social they did was due to expire this week (we were part of that problem). That said, this is something that can be predicted. Our entire experience took an hour and forty minutes. We only ordered a drink, appetizer and dinner. It took 20 minutes before a server visited us at all. Appetizers came right away, but the entree lagged. Our complementary bread arrived with the appetizer. At the end of the meal, the server took our card and disappeared, never to be heard from again. We finally flagged her down about 20 minutes later and inquired. She had just forgotten to bring it to us and managed to find it. Frustrating as we were done with our dinner and drinks and wanted to go home. We had the peaches wrapped in prosciutto, rigatoni with elk sausage, and spaghetti. The peaches and the elk were four-stars. Peaches were a nice start, refreshing and light. The rigatoni had a nice kick to it and the ricotta complemented it nicely. We had Crispin from the bottle, as they were out of glasses. We might consider coming back again, hoping this was just a one-off as the food was nice and the prices aren't off the charts. read more

Delicious Italian cuisine in a romantic setting. The wines were reasonably priced and tasty - had the Cashmere and Barbera. The Bulgarian feta app is sourced from a local Greek store and requires restraint to not finish. It was spicy and not at all salty. A great combination with olives and artichokes. The cannelloni and gnocchi were absolutely fresh and amazing. And reasonably priced for their portion size (good) and quality. The brisket in the gnocchi created a super rich but not overpowering sauce. I must have done the dishwashers job because I don't think I left a drop of food in my plate. I tired Rinata for the first time on a first date; I picked the place. I found out my date's favorite food was pasta, so I figured a place that advertises house-made pastas was an obvious choice. It was a GREAT choice, indeed. The server was extremely knowledgeable regarding wines and great with choosing dishes. The atmosphere was cozy and casual, lighting low but not so low you needed your phone flashlight to read the menu. They seemed a little short staffed, but there were three or four really large groups of 8+, so I was pleasantly surprised how attentive servers were. Both my date and I got the Bucatini, which was exceptionally seasoned and the serving was great; I left feeling satisfied, but not stuffed after a heavy red-sauce pasta dish. Then for dessert, we shared the Tiramisu. A generous piece came with a vanilla custard and chocolate drizzle on top. It was light, just sweet enough, and delicious. I felt that for the atmosphere, overall dining experience, portion size, and quality of wait staff, the prices were extremely reasonable, all pasta for right around $15-$17 and desserts from $3-$8. I love a good place to get authentic Italian pasta, and somehow this place passed under my radar for 15 or more years. Part of these 5 stars is the atmosphere: it's candle lit, romantic, fantastic service, but most of my 5 stars go to the food. we tried a ravioli dish, and a gnocchi dish. I am a fan of the food. Some of the dishes have obnoxiously small portions, but the tastes are worth it. The service is average Minneapolis / Uptown; CRAP. With that said, this is one of the places I put up with the average Minneapolis service for. The general dining experience can range wildly depending on where you are seated. There is a small oddly shaped 'room' that is poorly heated with some of the most cramped seating I have ever experienced. We make reservations specifically to request not being seated in this room. I think this is the section that they give to their known rude wait staff. In summary, expect poor service and uncomfortable seating with great food. read more

First, I'm not sure why yelp has this listed as French and Tapas/Small Plates; it's only Italian, and it's glorious. I lived (briefly, but it counts!) in Rome, and this place is the real shit. Forget Broder's and BLG. Not that they aren't good, but there is absolutely no reason they should have a wait when Rinata, with its deeply flavored sauces, house-cured pancetta, and perfectly al dente homemade pastas, exists at all. I read on heavytable.com that Rinata is one of MPLS's underrated restaurants. That's a fib. With a friend in town, I thought it'd be great to try this place out. From the front, I have never been that impressed but figure that looks are deceiving. Upon entry, we were placed at a table that was uncomfortably small in an awkward room that was portioned off with a door open to the outside, people coming and going. I figure, OK, the ambiance is off but I'll reserve judgement. Cobwebs on the light fixtures? Tacky artwork and cheap fixtures? OK, wait until the food is served... Which was simple and flavorless. My entree with capers and lemon sauce barely showcased the vibrant flavors one would expect from such a dish. My friend had a shrimp fettuccine that was just as bland. Although the service was friendly and prompt, it couldn't make up for boring food and bad atmosphere. The caesar salad had too much dressing, what appeared to be cheap croutons (hey, for these prices I expect something special), and the dessert tasted like it was from a box. I'll stick with Al Vento, frankly, and be left to wonder how these two restaurants could differ so greatly while being sisters. So very strange. read more
