Roscioli is a hot name in Rome - they've got several establishments including a hopping trattoria and a food market - we were attracted by a wine dinner with lots of local food and wine at a fair price (€100?). Anyway, our group of 4 had a personal somm who walked us through a delicious journey of Italian food and wine. Honestly, I learned a lot - and not just that everything here is delicious (it is) but about centuries old traditions and top quality ingredients. After a lot of research, back and forth and reviews read, my husband landed on this restaurant for his birthday dinner. We made our reservation long before we even left the States, wanting to make sure we had a guaranteed table on his special day (and a good thing, too; we saw so many groups and couples get turned away by the staff after showing up with no reservation.) We showed up a couple minutes early but were taken to a table right away. Kind of odd, when we arrived, there were only two other couples on the outdoor patio, so many tables open. But after we checked in, we watched the staff move one of the couples from their table to the one next to it, and they ended up seating us at the table the other couple just vacated. I'm sure they had a reason - I hope they had a reason, at least - but it was awkward because the other table kept looking over at us like it was our request or demand that they be moved. The tables were also quite close together, so you lose the illusion of privacy. We didn't end up ordering or eating very much that night, which is a bummer and totally our fault (lunch was a lot more filling than we'd planned.) I got the charred Caesar salad, my husband ordered the butter rotelli, and we each had a glass of red, recommended by the waiter (a different wine for each of us, based on our meals.) We also went to town on their house bread, served warm with a small spoon of olive oil. The charred Caesar was tasty, it was kind of difficult to eat as by the time the lettuce got to me, it was too limp to really cut and scoop onto the fork. I made do, but it wasn't a delicate process. The flavor was interesting, the parmesan cheese slices added a tangy saltiness and there were dabs of tahini on the board that added a pasty, earthy, warm flavor. I know "pasty" doesn't exactly evoke "yummy", but it worked with the dish. My husband enjoyed his pasta, but did say it wasn't his favorite dish. He said it had a kind of miso flavor that caught him off-guard (he was expecting buttery garlic) but once he got used to it, it was fine. The staff was friendly and made it a point to check on us throughout our meal, which was over before we knew it because we were too full for dessert or to add on to our meals. For our last day in Italy, we booked a "make your own pasta" date, which risked really being cheesy - and not in a "top-tier Parmesan" way. But it was actually a perfect way to end our trip, making our own pasta, tiramisu, and meatballs... Well, actually, we mostly mashed things together. The chef gave us little ramekins of stuff, and we wadded together meatballs, mixed together tiny bits of dough, rolled out spaghetti. I've taken cooking classes before and this wasn't anywhere near "now season the tomatoes and bring them to a slow bubble"... but for a family that had some notoriously un-kitchen-educated people and a mother with some sight issues, this was perfect. Which ensured the food was really good when we got it, the freshest pasta in Rome, and then we also got a five-course wine tasting with an extensive history lecture on each wine to explain how wine is made in Italy. While the restaurant is small they space the tables out nicely so it doesn't feel like it. They have an excellent wine selection and a very extensive menu specifically their meats and cheeses. We did not get any antipasto items since my husband's stomach was a bit uneasy, but this is absolutely what you should look at when dining here! They have so many options! Our waiter was very kind but not all that attentive. This restaurant is always busy so it is understandable, from our perspective it looks like she needed some help. To start the night we had a toasted bun with prosciutto and a wonderful cheese (can't really remember what it was called) but it was great! We also got a pesto gnocchi which we loved. Service was quite bad. Server brought food and 45 minutes went by- she never once checked to see if everything was ok. The food was average, not exceptional. I barely ate a raw tomato salad because it was way too much for one person and I had told her that I did not want large portions, so she might have warned me. I paid for it, of course, and they added $4.50 Euros for a water that I did not drink. I actually had to-walk inside the restaurant to pay my bill because at that point, I just wanted to leave. i am so disappointed because I made my reservation in advance and was so looking forward to it. This meal was eaten nearly 4 weeks into my stay in Italy. At this point, I had and eaten at many restaurants and also cooked at home using local ingredients, so I'd like to think I had an understanding of the importance of ~INGREDIENTS~ The restaurant is nice with the long tables and benches. Service was odd because despite it being after 8:00pm, one of the servers was moving with the speed of a someone with a either one too many doppio or a freshly powdered nose if you catch my drift. It was unnerving. Even worse, it seemed as though the other servers were looking for him frequently throughout the night and maybe having to make up for him not pulling his weight. However, I am not of a culture where Western/American-style customer service matters, so I don't care about any of this. If the food was amazing, I would not have cared about any of the frou frou around me. Unfortunately, this ended up being the most underwhelming meal I ate in my entire stay in Italy. I was shocked after having such great food in Rome to having such a disappointing meal. The wine was okay. For my main, while the sauce was tasty and made with seemingly fresh vegetables and I appreciated that (hence the extra star), the octopus - which should have been the star of the dish - was rubbery and had the texture, once chewed, of bouncy chewing gum. This was my last meal in Rome before heading back to USA. My friend and I did the wine and dinner pairing. What a great way to the end the trip. Highly recommend making rsvp online at least a few months in advance. They have two seating times: 5pm or 8pm. You will not leave hungry or thirsty. They also allowed sharing of a few wine tastings, because it's just too much wine for some members of our family. The sommelier was super knowledgeable. They have shipping to the US and only ship on cooler temperature months so our shipment will come in September. I would give 4.5 stars if this was an option. Our first night in Rome, we love the city and the history and the people already, despite the extreme July heat this week. We made this reservation based on not being able to get into Roscioli, and the reviews of this sister restaurant were very good. We started with burrata and bread which was delicious. Then we had amatriciana with large tubular pasta and a linguini with pesto sauce. Both were very good but the amatriciana was excellent. The velvety texture of the red sauce was memorable and the guanciale were perfectly cooked such that they had a crispy exterior and burst into liquid funk flavor when eaten. the pesto linguini was also very good. the noodle texture was very soft in a good way. The pesto was made in a food processor or stick blender, not in a mortar and pestle, which is fine, but I do prefer the less grainy texture of pounded basil. The meatballs were a little firm for my taste but no problems. The fish of the day was mackerel which we ordered despite the unspoken facial expression of the waiter that gave me pause. It was ok but did have a strong fishy flavor which my wife and 10 year old son didn't appreciate. This restaurant is very good to excellent based on my one dining experience. I was extremely disappointed with Rimessa Roscioli. After going to their sister restaurant Roscioli on my second night in Rome, I had high expectations for this spot. We decided to go with some of the recommendations of the server, which in hindsight was probably our big mistake. Their menu is completely different from Roscioli and their pasta does not hold a candle to what I had at the other restaurant. It's a cute restaurant but the moment we walked in and heard English only we knew we were in trouble. They also rushed us out of there so quickly, our entire dinner took about 45 minutes. I felt like I was in the US at a chain restaurant, and that's not a compliment. We ordered the scallops to start, which was probably the best thing we had that evening. We also ordered the beef tartare and it had this very odd soapy flavor to it. It did have sea urchin which I usually absolutely love but this one tasted very weird. Then we ordered the seafood pasta, which was good and flavorful but nothing to write home about. Deliciozo! The carbonara and white fish (cod?) were to DIE for. The pasta was cooked to perfection, a la dente. And the fish skin was so crispy. I couldn't stop raving about it. My group had the tasting menu so we also had a cheese board in the beginning with, of course, lovely bread. The waiters were so attentive and friendly. They were extremely efficient and knowledgeable about what they were serving (explaining what to eat first on the cheese board, and what meats paired with the cheeses). The restaurant itself is extremely swanky. I loved the wine super hero pictures on the wall, and my group and I couldn't stop talking about all the different wines and liquors that spanned the opposite wall. I had high hopes but ended the meal with disappointment. Knowing that this is the sister restaurant of Roscioli Salumeria, I was expecting awesome Italian cooking like carbonara. But not so! Carbonara wasn't even on the menu. In sum, my impression is that they focus more on wine than food. We ordered the chef's menu with wine pairing and were served the same items as on the regular menu. One of my nieces had been in Rome recently and highly recommended this restaurant so friends and I made a reservation during a work trip. Our experience was wonderful from start to finish. The dining room is lined with floor to ceiling shelves of canned and jarred local products, which provide not only a cool backdrop but are all for sale. Seating is communal, but with enough space that you don't feel like you're dining with strangers. The wine list is enormous and the staff are happy to help you navigate it. Although service is provided by multiple servers, our primary server made sure everything went smoothly. That included providing a complimentary, and delicious, beef carpaccio appetizer when my grilled mackerel entree took longer for the kitchen to prepare than my friends' meals. During my most recent last night in Rome, I made reservations for dinner here to celebrate my sister's birthday. It was hands down one of the best meals that I've not only ever had in Italy, but in my life. Period. They offer a very extensive menu, both for wine and food. We asked if we could split the Chef Tasting dinner option between the two of us and they happily agreed to let us do this. Normally, it's meant for one person but for us it was the perfect portion. On the half serving alone I left the place stuffed so I can't imagine trying to tackle it all on my own. The Chef Tasting menu consisted of two starter dishes, two pasta dishes, an entree, and then a dessert. Each dish was then paired with a wine which our expert sommelier, Alfonso, would excitedly give us a brief history of even going so far as to pull out a giant map of Italy with each new wine to show us exactly where the wine was coming from. And these weren't just your everyday run of the mill wines being served either. All were so unique and things I've never heard. For example, a SPARKLING Chardonnay which only comes from one small town in Italy or a unique orange wine that only comes from a tiny Italian island close to Africa. I definitely may have bought a bottle (or two) to bring back home with me. And as for the food, I'm told it changes from night to night, but on the night we visited it was a home run. Our two starters consisted of first a piece of bruschetta topped with a wonderful salty and soft cheese with an anchovie. Normally, the thought of eating an anchovie would be the last thing I'd ever order but it perfectly complimented the cheese and when combined with the wine for that course it was superb! For the second course we had a delicious bowl of a potato cream with a poached egg that was topped with fresh black truffle that melted in your mouth. For our first pasta dish we were served the traditional and unique Roman dish- cacio e pepe. Which is a very simple taglioni pasta that's only topped with pecorino cheese and pepper. I'd had it a few times at other places in the city but this version by far made the others pale in comparison. Our second pasta dish. Our second pasta dish was a cream based (Tortellini?) i'm honestly not sure what it was, other than delicious. The showstopper was the main entree dish that comprised duck breast with goat cheese, foie gras, and pears cooked in a red wine. The key was to get a little piece of each item in one bite for an experience for your taste buds that was simply out of this world. This was another dish that I would have never in a million years considered to order on my own which makes me so glad we went with the Chef's Tasting. They really know what they're doing. And then finally for dessert we were served a hardy serving of the traditional tiramisu. Again, I'm not usually a big fan of this dessert but I'll be damned if they didn't turn me into a fan with their rendition as well. At the end of the meal we left a bit buzzed, incredibly full, and with our heads spinning about the many amazing wines being produced in Italy that are off the beaten trail. If you don't dine here at least once while you're in Rome you'll be doing you and your taste buds a huge disservice. read more

Just like everything this family does, it's centered around local, high quality ingredients coupled with informative lessons around the culture of food and wine. This place is definitely a wine tasting type experience as opposed to a regular roman-style restaurant. While you can walk in and try to order off the menu... everything is really set up to be paired in a tasting with multi-course menu with matching wine. Because of the communal type large seating areas, I would also highly recommend this for any type of a group or large party experience... it would be perfect. The knowledge of all of the waiters and wine tasting experts make this place truly stand out from a wine perspective and certainly is a must-do on any true wine lovers visit to this city. It was an amazing experience-the food was exceptional, the service was above and beyond what anyone would expect, the ambience was perfect (we were in the wine cellar). We recommended it to everyone who was going to Rome. This year we tried Rimessa Roscioli. The food was just as exceptional as I remember it. Sadly, the service was horrible (rude waiter, sommelier came to take our wine order just as we finished our food, we wanted dessert but the waiter brought our check and left quickly before we could request dessert). and the ambience was just okay. Few restaurants live up to the hype, but this was an incredibly memorable meal in Rome. Simply put, their tasting menu is outstanding and surprisingly well priced. We ordered the five course meal with wine pairings. With fresh cheese, meat and inventive pasta, we were incredibly satisfied with the quality of the food. My wife is still raving about the creamy cacio e pepe pasta and the amazing fresh mozzarella and homemade pesto. We didn't know it at the time but this pre fix tasting is #2 of things to do on TripAdvisor. I recommend you book your reservation early online. I'm not usually one for large group events with strangers as I'd prefer to not have to use my energy pretending to be nice around strangers I may have otherwise had zero interest in engaging with, but it worked out ;) That aside, our sommelier was fantastic! I've never been a fan of Italian wine, it's just not my fav but I was really looking forward to this trip to Italy with an open mind and a palate. The wines weren't terrible and their pairings were quite scrumptious. I'd recommend Rimessa, but if you are similar to me perhaps book a tasting table where you can try tons of wine and I believe they make food recommendations or if you like the group setting situation then the wine dinner experience is definitely for you. We had a few who weren't into wine much which made it a slightly different experience towards my end of the table. I'd consider myself a middle of the road wine connoisseur, not very knowledgeable but very much interested so I feel I may have had a different experience towards the front of our table. Alessandro Pepe and I communicated many times from the United States about attending this Wine and Food Tasting at Rimessa Roscioli. We arrived at 8:00 PM and were warmly greeted and seated in their tasting room by Zaira. We were a party of 6 of a total of 18 people attending the tasting that evening. We had people from Brazil, Italy, Denmark, France and the U.S. Alessandro started the evening off by having everyone introduce themselves and tell a little about themselves. This really broke the ice and opened up the evening. Zaira, Alessandro's assistant, was so friendly and attentive. She kept the food coming along with the wines. We were able to have lively conversations with everyone about the food and wine. The table was set with about 8 different wine glasses. As it turned out, we tasted more than 8 wines. Alessandro was a great one to introduce us to wine tasting and the different regions we would be experiencing that evening. He really knew his wines and had great stories to tell us. There are over 1,800 different grapes in Italy. He took his time to explain everything about the wines and food we were tasting. He never rushed us and took care to answer all of our questions. So so bad I don't even know where to begin but let's just say for someone who eats out plenty and has traveled everywhere this was one of the worst meals I have ever had. The service was horrendous. The carbonara was actually so salty it was not edible. The meat plate was so tasteless and the cheeses were awful. This is the tourist trap of all traps.
