On a whim, I decided to break out of my boring yet comfortable routine of going to the usual lunch places around work, and ventured on the T to Riffrulo. Cute, modern inside, swanky sofa as you can see from the picture. The two ladies at the counter were actually nice (I read on Yelp about rude waitstaff), and ordered the salmon burger. The young lady working there verified it was very good which is always comforting to hear when you are trying something new. It took about 10-15 minutes. They offered me a bag and I ate my sandwich at Emerson Gardens just a 6-8 min walk away. It was tasty, a bit messy though, wish I had remembered napkins, but it hit the spot. As a home cook and former food-server at many restaurants in Boston, I almost always prefer to eat at home and go to restaurants only when I want to focus on my dining companions and not deal with cleaning up. That being said, Rifrullo is a breath of fresh, delicious air, unique for its ambience, its cleanliness -- before and during COVID -- the painstakingly assembled menu and, of course, for its fresh, healthy, tasty food. I've not tried too many items on the menu but the ones I've consumed have all been stellar, with clean, distinct tastes and components. The lasagne bolognese -- which comes frozen to go -- is 100% inspired and swoon-worthy. Calling it lasagne is something of a misnomer, as it feels more like biting into a delicious tender cloud. During the pandemic, the ordering and pickup procedures were quickly created and any wrinkles promptly smoothed out. Colleen's commitment to her suppliers, her workers and her customers is crystal clear and I was happy to venture out to support her supporting others. I will keep coming back! read more

I was excited to eat at Rifrullo based on my sister's recommendation. I opted for the Cobb and Kale Salad which featured organic massaged kale, hard-boiled egg, crisp bacon, Great Hill bleu cheese, & avocado, tossed in a radish vinaigrette. It sounded delicious, but sadly, it disappointed. The salad was flavorless and disappointing. My sister and I both had Arnold Palmer's, which were good, and we tried two cookies: the everything cookie and one other that was healthy (I forget what was in it). The healthy cookie was much better than the everything cookie, but neither were good enough to justify the calories. The place has a nice, laid-back atmosphere. Situated in a vibrant neighborhood this low key but hip-stery cafe provides some fine selection of healthy breakfast choices. I was here last weekend and got to order the "Breakfast salad" made of organic greens, two poached eggs and smoky bacon and the "Sweet Potato Hash", which is a combo of sunny-side duck eggs, turkey sausage and garlic scape chimichurri. Their sweet potatoes are a delight. Even after having all that I couldn't stop myself from ordering more, so I went ahead and got the "Turkish Quinoa Bowl", which had this perfect blend of yogurt and poached egg soaking up the quinoa. We moved right around the corner and came in for lunch while we were unpacking. Well at first the longish wait was a bit annoying (maybe around 20 minutes?) as we are starving. But it's worth the wait!! I think our starvation was more the key issue of annoyance than the fact they were preparing our food ...it's not like they have an army in their small kitchen... :-P This place is definitey hispter. It's hard to get a seat so if you want to eat here you may have to wait. Everything is fresh. Everyone is nice. I got the turkey club. One of the best I've had! The bread tasted home made. The turkey was flavorful (not common in most turkey sandwiches). The bacon was crispy. I loved the fig mayo! My husband got a lunch special (not normally on the menu): a sausage and peppers sandwich. I can't go too much into detail about how his tasted since I don't eat sausage. But he very much enjoyed it. The food is a bit pricey but it is very good! I guess for the summer they aren't open for dinner. I look forward to trying their dinner menu! We will be back! read more

This place is LEGIT. Offers a variety of freshly baked pastries and cookies that are all made with healthy (many even paleo or GF) ingredients. Even using healthier ingredients, these baked goods still taste like they were made in France with nothing but butter and flour. The paleo cookie is a standout. Yes their coffee/espresso drinks are just OK, but don't complain about it. That'd be like going to Peter Luger's steakhouse and complaining about the fish. read more

I actually tried out this cafe through the Too Good To Go app which helps prevent food waste by giving restaurants and cafes an outlet to sell leftovers from the days prior to people on the app for a discounted rate. I got a mystery bag, so I had no idea what I would be getting. I ended up getting 4 delicious pastries, I think a whole wheat scone, 2 cranberry/walnut/chocolate chip cookies, and a shortbread cookie. Each was super yummy and pretty unique in flavor in my opinion. While I was there, I ordered an iced oat milk latte which came out quickly and in a compostable cup (!!). My coffee wasn't cheap (almost $6), but I was more than happy to support this woman owned and led small business that has plenty of vegan options. The staff was friendly and there was multiple indoor and outdoor seating options. This place just feels authentic. And real. I will one hundred percent return! read more

Went here for the first time today and it has become one of my favorite places! Sadly, though they will not have the most delicious pear tart that I have ever had after tomorrow, but it makes me even more excited to try more of their desserts. They have food options for those who are vegetarian, gluten free, keto, and anyone who loves good food. Everyone working was so kind, sweet, and considerate. Came to this hole-the-wall cafe in Brookline on a Saturday morning and it's literally tucked away into this small corner on Cypress St just off of Route 9. There's not much seating inside, but if you can find some, then it is a nice bright place to come and study or do work. They have some unique and artistic decor inside and their menu is full of all sorts of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (or if you just want something to drink!). The morning my girlfriend and I came we got: -Yogurt Bowl: homemade, plain yogurt with fresh seasonal fruits and you can add homemade granola for $1.50. Very very refreshing and light for an early morning, but it was a bit pricey (~$5.50 without the granola). -Matcha Latte: great matcha flavor and texture, but definitely wasn't as sweet as it could be - had to add some brown sugar cubes to sweeten it a bit, but definitely still a quality drink. Overall, very pleasant atmosphere to come and study with free wifi. I'll definitely be back to try out some of their other menu options especially since it's so close to me :) read more

My roommates and I came here for brunch on Sunday and really liked it! I ordered the Heath street which was an avocado toast and a matcha latte. The toast was delicious and very flavorful. The matcha latte was disappointing unfortunately. Did not taste like matcha and had a white, watery milk consistency. Would not order that again. Great little cafe. The decor was really nice. Lots of natural light really ties together the fresh, hipster vibe. Everything on the menu was pretty healthy, which made me feel absolutely no guilt about ordering anything. My friend was the one to recommend it, and she loves the food here. We ordered in the Lemon Pudding Cake first. It was really simple looking, and it was bursting with lemon flavor. You can actually see the little strands of lemon zest in the cake. It was a little sweet, but that didn't stop us from finishing it. Also, it's really dense, so if you're looking for a lighter treat, I'd get something else. I got the Our Own Turkey Club Sandwich and my friend got The Other Kale Salad. The sandwich was really good: the bread was toasted, but had a great texture to complement the turkey, the spinach and the arugula. The mayo was sweet, which was a welcome addition, along with the bacon, of course. My only problem with it is that there was a huge amount of turkey all piled up in the center. I know it's pretty common, but it's not my particular cup of tea, so I moved it around and left some uneaten. Overall, it was really filling, but it was light and left me refreshed. My friend said the salad was great, but it was a little too lemony for her taste. She's been here before, and she recommends the Chickpea Hummus Sandwich (I've never tried it). An additional bonus was that they have a compost bin! I think that's awesome since any food scraps don't have to go to waste! Did you know that Rifrullo isn't open for dinner, but they DO host private dinner parties? I didn't even know this cafe existed (despite having driven by it a gazillion times) until I was searching for a private dining room for a small 70th birthday party and a friend recommended it. The owner, Colleen, is so lovely, easy to work with, and makes AMAZING food. I did stop by in the weeks before our party and tried both the Cypress sandwich and the BLT (my fiancee had the chicken parm) and they were all great! Our private dinner for a group of 15 was exactly what we wanted. Colleen proposed a menu via email and was completely open to feedback and dealing with allergies/preferences. It was BYOB (which was perfect for us), and she also let us bring our own dessert (though she would have made great ones included in the price), and it was just such a lovely and perfect evening. They lit candles, let us put up decorations, and it was so private and special. The food was AMAZING. I cannot recommend Rifrullo high enough, for a casual breakfast/lunch or coffee stop, but ESPECIALLY for private events. read more

The sofa doesn't make any sense if you have to lean over the low table to eat. I had the absolute best breakfast at Rifrullo. The Breakfast Salad is such a healthy, delicious meal that I wish I could make for myself every day. The poached eggs were perfect, the spinach was darkest green, nice beautiful leaves that I dream of (sooo far from the boring and thin little leaves in the bagged baby spinach at the big box store), and the bacon truly awesome. Put that all together in a bowl with some vinaigrette and you get the best breakfast that leaves you full and feeling good about yourself. My girlfriend and I came to Rifrullo for breakfast on Saturday, and we ordered 2 coffees and 2 breakfast entrees. Our coffees were quite watery and disappointing. We waited for over 30 minutes for our "Not so french toast" and "Cypress" and watched many people who ordered after us get their food. After speaking with the person at the counter, he informed us that he had accidentally given our order to someone else. He gave us a few chocolate chip cookies for the trouble; however, when our orders finally arrived, our french toast was missing the lemon almond custard and the sandwich was just mehhh. Other note: We saw the guy behind the counter put some chocolate chip cookies on a plate for someone else, but they changed their mind, so he set the cookies the side. Later when he thought no one was watching, he used his bare hands to put them back instead of using the tongs on top of the cookie jar. You guessed it - Those were the cookies he ended up giving me and my girlfriend after he messed up our order. read more

It's a cute little setup with the 70s-style pink couch and little knickknacks decorating the intimate space. I was the first patron of the day when I arrived at 8:30am on Saturday for breakfast, and immediately chose a seat by the windows. Starting at around 9, a stream of couples and mothers with their babies came in, and the cafe was quickly buzzing with activity. This is definitely a popular neighborhood cafe for families. For breakfast, I ordered a yogurt bowl and soy matcha latte. The homemade yogurt is liquidy and rather bland; it lacks a tangy flavour. However, I was pleased with the generous fruit toppings, which consisted of fresh pomegranate seeds, banana slices, orange sections, and pineapple slivers. Their matcha latte was much too weak. The Cypress is a popular order, and is perhaps one of their better breakfast dishes. Overall, I was unimpressed with the food; but, I will definitely give it a another try.
