Super great experience. I'd return again and do a lesson with Ride Solana Beach. Did a two hour lesson with Joe and Eric for myself and my 7 year old son. Great beach to catch small waves and learn how to surf and paddle. Joe is amazing. Great communication, very simple and straightforward instruction with a big emphasis on safety and etiquette. And they crushed it with my 7 year old and Eric was super helpful with him catching waves. I easily caught more than 12 waves with their lessons. Very reasonably priced and Joe runs a legit local business that wants to help you get riding waves. Great experience and I'd definitely return back for lessons with Joe and Eric. read more

Joe (the owner) is the best!!! We did a few rentals from him throughout our 2-week trip in Solana Beach (our favorite was the beginner surfboards and wetsuits - he even gave us some surfing pointers!). He has everything from bikes and boards to umbrellas, beach toys and sunscreen! And his shop's location also couldn't be better - right across the street from Fletcher Cove with easy ramp access to the beach and public bathrooms. Above all, he is a super friendly and welcoming person - we were staying right next door to his shop and genuinely enjoyed chatting with him and getting to know him while we were around. The only piece of constructive criticism we had was the quality of the e-bikes - the ones we rented were on the lower end (we looked them up and saw they were some of the least expensive ones Amazon offers), so that made it a bit challenging to take them on a long ride (they ended up dying on us on our way back from La Jolla). Found this little beach rental place on yelp I would highly recommend. Little difficult to find, but we rented some beach chairs for the afternoon and then when we returned the beach chairs, we rented the golf cart and took in the really cute downtown, which was definitely worth checking out. read more

I had a great experience! I was very excited to try surfing for the first time, and thanks to Joe, I was actually able to catch a wave :) He gave us a serious talk in the beginning, which motivated me to give it my all. His instructions were super clear, and I appreciated all his coaching!! As a note, the address that Google Maps took me to was the parking lot by the dental group, and you have to find the gate with the Ride Solana Beach sticker. It was easier just to park in the gravel lot in the back off N Sierra Ave. read more

We had such a great time on these scooters! At first I was a little hesitant, thinking I was going to crash while attempting to drive as this was my first time on one of these things, but Joe was super sweet and reassuring. He gave us a tutorial in a large parking area until we felt comfortable taking off. Once we were ready, he suggested we take the main road...so we did. It was such a beautiful ride! We made a few stops in the area to enjoy some of the local establishments. We headed back when our time was up. Joe asked us how our ride was, and if we enjoyed the scooters. He was open to feedback and offered us a little more time to enjoy the sunset on the scooters, which we declined but it was really nice of him to offer. We went to this place to rent some bikes. Unfortunately we went so late in the day that all of the bikes were already rented out. The 5 star review is based on the fact that the owner was very friendly and kind to us. Came here just to rent a couple of beach chairs and an umbrella. Couldn't find the place at first cuz the address took us to the back of their place, where we had to use the other street to enter into their front yard which houses all their gear and stuff. Once we found the place, and it was open, a dog was sitting outside. I guess he was the welcome party for all guests? Stood there for a bit til the dog went back inside and I think he was telling his owner that a customer was standing outside or not....had to give the place a call and a guy finally came out. We got our rentals - $20 all day. Paid him cash. He didn't do any invoice/receipt nothing. Just told us once we were done, just drop it back in front of his place. We could've just left and never came back with his gear...very trustworthy? Or not worth time to put something on paper? Don't matter, we used it for the day and returned it as we told him we would. read more

We had an absolutely great time renting a paddle board and long board from Joe! He was so incredibly friendly and generous, giving us an umbrella to take to the beach since it was so sunny! The price for an all day rental of any of their great beach gear is the best deal anywhere in San Diego, and its an easy couple hundred feet from the shop down the public ramp to the beach. Joe also makes beautiful hand carved surf inspired pewter rings and necklace pendents in that are really cool! This is the absolute best place to go if you want to rent a board or kayak to get out on the coolest beach in the north county for the day! read more

Affordable surfboard rentals right next to the beach. Joe was super nice and chill he let me park in his lot all weekend over Fourth of July when parking is very hard to come by and even offered me a bratwurst and a beer when I returned the board at the end of the weekend. I would highly recommend renting gear from Ride Solana Beach! The owner was incredibly helpful and generous-- providing us directions on where best to surf on Solana Beach, waxing our rented surfboards, offering his outdoor shower for my partner and I to use, and lending us beach chairs and an umbrella for FREE. They also gave a few quick tips that made us feel way more confident heading to the beach. That kind of service is rare. We also picked up a rash guard for my husband (great quality, he loves it) and a cute little shell bracelet that was perfect for the beach vibe. Is it the absolute cheapest place you'll find a bodyboard? Probably not. But the quality, the guidance, and the customer service more than make up for it. This store is not as big as other stores I have visited, but they still carry a lot of great items for adventuring. I like the fact that this store specializes in surf gear. I trust the Patagonia brand and their clothing and hats always fit well and last a long time. I wear a lot of Patagonia when I am on the trail or kayaking. Yes, they are a bit pricey but I like knowing that what I purchase is not going to tear or fall apart. We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. I just browsed while my friend found herself a new hat. She received great service when checking out and I would definitely shop here in the future. Thanks Patagonia for keeping me warm and comfortable on the trail and cool when I am on the water.

Emma was beside my daughter 1 on 1 the entire time. I could tell she was really enjoying her time. Del Mar is a great location too. Not rough and rocky like other nearby beaches. It can get a little crowded but Emma also did well to keep my daughter away from those playing in the surf. Would highly recommend.

Surfing is very hard. You have to be quick and balanced. Let your kid get that thrill of success at accomplishing something hard to do. But most importantly let them have fun surfing.
