    Surf Sessions Surf Camp
    Joe M.

This summer my girls got their introduction to surfing. After some Internet browsing we went with Sessions. Overall it was a great experience , price was comparable to other camps , instructor to student ratio was good (about 4:1)....they played some games on the beach to kind of mix things up a bit. Despite being a bit on the young side the instructors seemed pretty engaged and helpful......except for the kid with an accent who was catching more waves than the kids he was supposed to be teaching... I would have liked to see the "owner" more involved in the activities... The only thing that kept Sessions from getting a 4 rating was that the owner "cheesed out" on the camp t shirts that are promised on the web site and in the contract...."yeah I'm bad at remembering the shirts" was his answer when asked about them..... Oh we're gonna get our shirts !!

My 13 y/o daughter and I took a lesson with Max- my daughter's first time ever and my second (first one was in Hawaii 12 years ago). Everything was great- they provided wetsuits, rash guards, Max carried our boards, gave instruction and encouraging feedback, and basically did all the work (other than standing up on the board). My daughter had no trouble or learning to stand up, and could ride all the way in successfully. It was a great experience and would recommend to anyone looking to learn. Thanks Max!

Horrible costumer service! I came across this business on Living Social. They were offering a week long camp for kids for $135, which seemed like a great opportunity to make my daughter's summer more fun and eventful at a decent price. I decided to put in an online request for the specific dates that worked best for our family. When I did so a message came up that someone will get back to me within 24 hours. No response came, so I started calling the business, I wanted to make sure that we could get the specific dates requested before I went ahead and made the purchase of the voucher. I kept calling, the voicemail was full, so I couldn't leave a message. Finally 3 days later somebody picked up. I had explained that I was calling in regard to the request I had sent that was never processed. At this time whoever I was speaking to had said that the Living Social deal for the week long camp was sold out (quote "we sold 500 in the first hour"). That seemed strange to me, because I was on the app earlier that day and the voucher was still available, so I set my phone on speaker and accessed the app. When I did so I told the person who I was speaking to that the voucher is still available and that only 465 had been sold in total, at this time they chose to disconnect. I tried calling back and texting, but no one replied. Later that evening I received an email that indicated again that the voucher is sold out and that I can purchase a $35 voucher for one day and pay another $217 for the remaining 4 days. I replied to the email with the screen shot of a final step purchase of the voucher and explained that it was still available, no response followed. I understand that many businesses use services like Living Social and Groupon to attract new clients, but I personally think that if you make your services available at a discounted price you need to honor them, not hang up on potential clients and if you do not wish to honor the discounted rates then do not offer them! I am saddened that I wasted my time on trying to communicate with this business.

This is what a lesson with Surf Session Del Mar ends with, a smile and satisfaction! THANK YOU.

I wanted to learn to surf with trained individuals and the most cost effective way I could, therefore my dollar had to go far and be a true value.....BINGO! This was a GREAT experience learning, my instructor made it Safe, Fun, and Informative. I now want to try surfing again! And next year i'm going to go to SURF SESSION AND TELLING FRIENDS! :o)

    Surf Sessions rocks!

We live in San Diego but stay in Del Mar every year. Finally talked my two girls into a surf camp (they always want me to teach them). Thought they might learn and have more fun with others their age. Walked up and spoke with Uriah from Surf Sessions while we were sitting on the beach. He had an afternoon session available and the rest was history. Started out with one day and my girls had so much fun they ended up going for three days (they wanted more but the weekend wasn't available). Can't say enough about Uriah and Surf Sessions. We'll be back!

This summer I had to enroll my 4 year old twin girls in a summer camp and I did not know where to start. Lucky for me I came across a Keystone South flyer and saw that they had a Jr. Camp program that I was curious to learn more about. I attended their open house this past April and I absolutely loved everything about it. The staff was very welcoming and while I spoke with the Director, Mike Bentz, they immediately brought my girls over to an activity that they loved. I was amazed by the knowledge and passion that Mr. Bentz showed for the summer camp business. He was able to address all of my questions and concerns which had me leaving there feeling extremely comfortable with making the decision to leave my kids in his hands. I immediately went home and enrolled online, which was another smooth process. My kids started camp last week and as any 4 year old and father that is, we were all extremely nervous. As I arrived to drop my kids off, we were greeting by another amazing staff member who immediately remembered my kids names, thus making the nerves go away (for me at least). That is when I suddenly remembered why I enrolled my kids here. Ever since they got home on that first day they can not stop talking about Keystone South and who their favorite counselors are. That is how I know I made the right choice for my kids. All in all, Keystone South is an amazing place to send your children to if you are looking for a local summer camp. The facility is clean, safe and secure. All of the staff members, that I have encountered thus far are very professional and really love their jobs. I am certain that Mr. Bentz only employs the highest quality of counselors. Thank you to Mr. Bentz and all of the Keystone South staff members for already making this summer a memorable one for my girls.

Crazy hair day and tie dyeing were favorites in our house this summer! Next summer our family will plan our vacation around the Keystone schedule because our daughter doesn't want to miss a day!

They all actually seem to have a big heart for being outside which I am grateful for because it gives that contagious love of nature to this next generation. The activities they chose are all really fun and many of them unique or adapted to fit the week's theme. For example they made fairy houses outside out of natural materials and the staff had to have gotten there early the next day to be sure the fairies left them notes. So sweet and means so much to the littles. Another week they did a fun Tide-pooling scavenger hunt and made these cool nature journals in a way that kids could easily reproduce themselves instead of just buying the journals prepaid. Lots of little touches like that have set this company apart for me. Also appreciated was the customer service and ability to take feedback that I experienced with this company, speaks to the integrity of the staff which is invaluable. Good leadership, staff that really care about kids as well as being stewards of nature. I'm excited to have found them and looking forward to more camps with them in the future.

I first saw that there was one in Balboa Park (which is currently still under winter maintenance), and upon some further research have discovered there are ~15 pools around San Diego with lap lane hours during the week and weekends, with a drop in rate of $4 per day! I've suffered through so many swims at the indoor pool at 24 hour fitness, not knowing there were these available to me! Specifically regarding the pool at Carmel Valley Rec Center. I came on a weekday evening (5:30pm) in May. So I assume things may change in the summer. But I had a lovely experience! The outside of the Rec center, and parking area is much nicer than some of the other rec centers around San Diego I've visited. I paid my $4 entry fee and went through the locker room. Of note, there are no lockers at this pool (there are at some of the others), however I also felt much safer leaving my bag out on a chair at this one than some of the others, there are showers. The water was warm enough, but not too warm during my laps. I swam for 45 minutes and had the whole lane to myself the entire time. It looks like there's a big slide that goes into the pool (that wasn't open while I was there), as well as a cute play area for kids that's right next to the pool.

It honestly doesn't take much to make a gym great, but Bay Club feels stuck in the past. The men's locker room is gross and smells. There's a persistent musky odor that's hard to stomach, likely coming from old carpet that's clearly been there for years. The men's showers are equally bad, with hair everywhere, inconsistent cleanliness, and low water pressure, which makes the entire experience feel unhygienic and poorly maintained. The men's sauna is especially concerning. There appears to be little to no ventilation, creating a heavy, stagnant environment that can allow dangerous CO buildup. On top of that, the walls and benches in the sauna are extremely outdated, reinforcing the sense that this space hasn't been refreshed or properly maintained in a long time. The products provided (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) are low quality and full of questionable ingredients, which feels completely out of place for a club charging premium prices. The weight room is constantly messy, with plates scattered everywhere and mismatched equipment. It feels chaotic instead of intentional. The outdoor gym is another huge missed opportunity. With the space and climate, it could be incredible, but instead it feels underdeveloped and outdated. Overall, everything just feels old and complacent. There's so much opportunity here, yet it seems like no one is pushing to raise the standard. After experiencing what a well-run gym can be, this falls short. I'll probably be canceling soon unless major improvements are made
