Worst customer service ever. Brought in a chain I needed replaced on Sunday. Showed pictures of the bike including the sprocket to the staff member helping me. He saw the chain and the bike photos, then sold me a chain that did not fit. Brought the chain back and was told they couldn't exchange it because it was used. Yeah, used trying to install the chain the staff member said would fit. I was told it was "hard to believe that the staff member would have sold me the wrong chain" - basically calling me a liar. These are the experts? Nice. This is why I brought the old chain with me and 13 photos of the bike. So you, the expert could help me find the right chain. I am not a pro biker. I just needed to replace a tire in my beach cruiser. From the moment I walked in the service was not good, I guess because I was not a super into biking person... They charged me more than what they said over the phone but that is not what made me so dissapointed, it was the service and the atittude. I felt they didnt want to listen to me or fix my problem. First they told me they couldnt fix it in the moment (although there were 2 workers seating down being apparently not busy and zero other costumers in the store) and even tho when my boyfriend came here with the same problem they fixed the tire right away when the store had more costumers. But whatever. Second I had a cup holder in my bike missing a screw and I asked since I was there if they could please give me a screw so I could fix it (I was willing to pay for it) but they told me that they didnt have any... really?? In a bike shop?? I dont know what kind of bike shop do not have any screw... they told me to come back for my bike in about an hour. In that waiting time I walked to another bike store in downtown Encinitas and without getting any service done there they were super nice and gave me a random screw for it. Thanks for nice people! After an hour and 30 minutes I went back to pick up my bike and they didnt even started on it!! So I decided to seat there and wait. After talking to other costumer that went into the store after me, they fix my tire right there in 10 minutes... which showed me how much they care about my bike and me as costumer in the first place. Is very sad because I live next to it, but they have lost 2 costumers. I am not going back there even tho is the most convenient store for me. read more

Looks like there no one who has a complain about this bike shop~~~~ So that makes my take the same as the rest of these reviews. Purchased my Mountain Bike back in October-ish. There were no Mountains bike to be found around at that time = COVID!! Anyway I've had couple issues with the bike... These guys without hesitation whether they are swamped or just taking care of other customers, Would help me out without blinking an eye... That's a rare thing these days. I just learned that like many other bicycle retailers that the supply chain issues are affecting their businesses and it's hard for them to recover. Perhaps you've heard me describe the hunk of a man I'm dating in my past reviews-At 6 foot 10 it's a challenge for him to try any new sports or hobbies, as a lot of off the shelf equipment is just simply too small. He decided recently that he was going to take up mountain biking-no small commitment because unlike a general gentleman, he can't just buy a starter bike and go from there. Oh no, even to begin it would have to be custom. So he went all out, and started researching to source the products he'd need to build one that would support him from scratch. If you're into bikes, you know this is a pricey endeavour so we really needed a two wheel guru to come into our lives. Low and behold: Enter the dudes from RIDE. We stopped into RIDE on a random Sunday for the BF to continue his research and to get him a helmet (My gift to the project! Protect the brains!) While browsing we got connected with Blaze and Chris. Blaze answered all his questions as we spent about an hour in the shop. These guys really committed to helping him achieve his dream bike. They helped us create a list of item's he'd need to order-and not even a bit of pressure for us to buy these parts through them. They told him what to get online and he agreed to have them build it when all the parts came in. While there I bought him that helmet and he was really happy with it! Over the last two months he has sourced the parts, a huge Ventana frame, custom wheels, etc. Anytime he had a question or needed a suggestion he was able to call up/email Blaze or Chris or any of the guys there and get help. THEN, all the parts where here and we took the lot of them to RIDE to be assembled. We knew there would be odds and ends that the guys would need to get/order and we were ready to start the process-these things take time! I really believe this shop is committed to quality and that means when you give them a project they're going to be up front and blunt with you about needs and costs, plus it could take awhile to get it perfect. The BF was totally cool with this and we settled in to wait for it to be built. Total trust in their process. We had a wheel that didn't fit that we ordered and had to return/get a new one, plus a seat (all our own problems) but once it was all there, the bike grew to completion rapidly and the BF was so excited, like a10 year old getting a bike on Christmas morning. The boys let us know the bike was ready yesterday and it was a sight to behold! I picked it up and it was clear that they had handled all our expensive parts with care and created an awesome end result. They gave further support with phone conversations with the BF on maintenance details. I bought a utility tool during the pick up that they recommended to put the bike together and apart and happy with that purchase too! This is the second time I've stopped in here and have been disappointed both times. The first time i was actually looking for a bike. They are the only ones in town that i know of that carry Willier. Sales guy was OK. answered my questions, but was really pushing the BMC. Total turn off Went in yesterday to just get a pair of socks. Walked in and saw the 3 guys in the mechanics area chatting. I walked around and couldn't find the socks. I actually made 3 complete passes around the place and still couldn't find what I was looking for. Went over to the area where the guys were. waited a few seconds for them to notice me .... and... finally interrupted their conversation and asked where they kept their socks. One of the guys comes out and seemed a more than a little annoyed that I interrupted them. Shows me where the socks are. I asked if they carried SockGuy and he said no. I took his tone for dislike of the brand. Seriously? Get over your self. Well Im in the hunt for a new bike and I can say that I will not return. read more

Hmm, it seems that Ride is being unfairly attacked on yelp these days. I've been meaning to write my review and just noticed the recent onslaught of negative reviews. I'm sure most people are intelligent enough to realize that these are personal attacks but I feel prompted to give my input. My boyfriend and I just bought 2 new Electra beach cruisers and accessories here a few months ago. The guys were super nice and helpful, unlike some other bike shops in the area that we shopped at, which is why we ultimately decided to buy here. They were patient and let us test ride multiple models without attitude. I just wanted a cute cruiser and they helped me find a good 7 speed and installed some pretty Hawaiian accessories and a basket to deck it out. Brett also threw in some freebies with our purchases which was cool since we spent quite a bit. If you want a good bike from a quality shop with a great selection and customer service then come here. We are still very happy with our cruisers! read more

We called the folks at RIDE Cyclery to hook us up with a family truckster full of Electra cruisers. They tracked down a couple of bikes they didn't have in stock at the time and had all 7 bikes on hand and ready to go for our scheduled pickup. We have been cruisin' the boardwalk with everything from our six and eight year olds' Rat Rods to our daughter's Blanc et Noir and my wife's Daisy. I'm sure we'll be going back to RIDE - when the rats grow out of their rods. (Of course I mean "rats" in the most endearing sense possible. I cannot say enough good things about Brent and the team at Ride. Our 10-year-old is obsessed with riding and visits every single bike store in San Diego (I do not exaggerate). The team at Ride are incredible. They are beyond patient, answer every single incessant question and make him feel so welcome that he "works" there on occasion. Along the way we've bought two beautiful Felt bikes from Ride, filled all of our tires with goop, outfitted ourselves with tools, shoes, helmets, nutrition and clothing. This isn't a bargain basement store but if you're looking for top notch equipment, Ride is your place. One of our favorite things is the free Wednesday trainer classes with none other than Olympic medalist Michellie Jones. First off let me say that you need to look at the reviews that have been filtered as these show a true rating of this bike shop. How can 34 - 5 star ratings out of 39 equal a 2 1/2 star rating? I stopped in Ride several months ago on a Monday afternoon because a certain bike shop farther south was closed though their recording said they were open 7 days a week. I was greeted by the owner and he asked how he could help me. I was looking for a pair of S-Works shoes and he said he could help me out. I ordered a pair in my size and was told that there was a new color I might be interested in, and that the color looked really nice, that's the color I ordered. They came in about 4 days later and I got a call. Because I was at work I sent my wife down to retrieve them. I got a call when she got down there saying I was not going to like this new color and that the owner felt bad for suggesting it saying, her wouldn't wear that color either. He said he would be happy to re-order the shoes in the color I original color I wanted. Now that is customer service and that is only one of the many examples I have experienced at Ride. I have a new local bike shop and the name is Ride. Located in Encinitas on PCH this shop is the ticket and these guys including the owner are the real deal. Go check them out. read more

My frame (carbon fiber) recently cracked on my Orbea Orca and I decided on changing brands to the Pinarello. My researched focused on the Dogma K8-S, but I had a difficult time finding the size I needed, along w/ the color I wanted. I finally sourced the bike at Ride Cyclery. I spoke to Brent over the phone. He was great to deal with and he didn't give me the run-around. Brent sent me pictures of the bike I wanted very soon after our conversation. I finalized the bike purchase shortly thereafter, along w/ the Ultegra R8000 groupset. The bike was shipped to me and arrived w/ in a few days. The condition was as promised and there were no issues from shipping. I've since rode the bike several times and it's simply amazing: Super smooth and comfortable! I'll spare you the details, but we had a very unique situation just happen recently where Ride Cyclery's customer service was put to the test. From the time we arrived in the store through the follow up on the phone, every single employee in that store was over the top understanding, friendly, and kind. They generally have a no returns policy on bikes (which is understandable) but they made an exception for us, which is the kind of service you can really only get from small, locally owned shops. They are clearly extremely knowledgeable and have a passion for what they do. Should I need a bike in the future, Ride Cyclery will be without question my first and only stop. read more

In reply to the owner - I was just passing through the town on a weekend and decided to check out the bikes. I love bikes. But the man who addressed me, or lack of, given I had to wait 5 minutes before he greeted us (not busy because he was talking to fellow employee) was short and impatient. I am not very bike savvy but the staff here was super patient with me as I selected the extras I needed for my beach cruiser. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the wide selection of bike's they sell from performance to beach cruiser to kids bike's. The shop had a cozy family feel to it and the owner's dog Syrus, a french bull dog ,was around greeting customer's. Location is great if you are biking up the coastline through Encinitas and need extras for your bike. They also have bike rental's. I will return again and have numerously referred the shop to friends and client's that are into Cycling. read more

Although there has been a bike shop in this location for many years, the change of ownership (18 months ago?) has really transformed it. The staff are clearly bike enthusiasts themselves with solid knowledge about equipment choices. We bought a complete new bike from them, and have been back many times for small items (that's why we must support our local bike shops, right!). Each time I was treated with respect and professionalism, and had full confidence in their recommended products. The trend in their inventory has moved towards the higher end, but it's still remained the place to go for regular bikes, beach cruisers, and service. First time I have been here. Friendly staff. My bike needed an adjustment which turned into a big tune up. My wheels were bent a bit, he gave me an estimate of 20 a tire which was a bit much. It took about 1 1/2 hours or more to finish. Luckily there were many places we had to choose from to go grab cocktails and food while we waited. Once we got back and found out what all had to be done, the brakes were backwards, rims bent, lots of minor adjustments, it didn't seem so bad. He did charge an extra 20 so $60 all in all for a tune-up is probably a decent price. Not a great deal but not too expensive either. I'm just happy he did all that needed to be done. Knowledgeable, helpful staff. I'll definitely go back fro any mishaps. read more

I was mountain biking in Laguna when the controller of my KS Lev literally just fell off after I hit a downhill section. I called a different shop at first and they said they could fix it. When I went there, the tech didn't even know what a KS Lev was?? I decided to not chance it and go elsewhere. That's where RIDE comes in. I arrived with a completely broken front and back rim from a crazy side load landing, I stopped at 2 other bike stores near by before arriving at Ride Cyclery, none of which would even give me the time of day, not sure what is up with bike stores down here. They not only took the time to help me sort out my issue but they did it in record time. I have since been back and ordered my entire family beach cruisers from them since they spent over 2 hours helping me for a tiny shop fee which they didn't even want to charge me. Today was my first major purchase at Ride Cyclery, and to summarize - I think I can understand why some people might have negative things to say. In my case, I have nothing but genuine praise. Here's what I mean: If you're looking for the cheapest service for sub-$500 bicycles, you probably don't need the level of expertise of the guys here. I'd probably direct you to Performance instead. Just like my review of Performance that gave 5 stars for prices and value, but with the caveat that if you have a $10k+ S-Works or Pinarello, you probably need to go to a high-end shop. Well, this would be an example of a high-end bicycle shop. It's not that they don't stock really affordable bikes and inexpensive parts - they do, and can give you a great value - but where they really shine is their inventory - or ability to rapidly get - the complete line of S-Works bikes and accessories and provide expert service on everything they sell. To illustrate the difference between a high-end bike shop like this and the bargain ones like Performance, let's say you bought a new Audi from the Audi dealership. When it comes time for service and parts, you could probably get cheaper prices from an independent repair shop because they'll likely use generic parts installed by technicians with a general skillset not necessarily specific to your equipment. If you have an '85 Audi, maybe this is fine. However, if you have, say an R8, RS7, etc., you'll likely get the highest quality parts and technicians with the most familiarity with your machine if you go to an Audi dealership. I bought my wife a Christmas present in the form of a Specialized Diverge (she's doing BWR... I'll be driving the SAG Wagon and getting drone footage - no really, I INSIST). I could have bought this bike at any of the several shops in the area selling Specialized, but after meeting Brent, Nick, Chris, Owen, and Brock, I knew that I had to buy it here and would be in good hands. I'll update should anything warrant a downgrade from 5-stars, but after yesterday's experience (where Nick took a look at my headset and quickly fixed the problem - and three other nagging issues I had become accustomed to riding with), I'd give them 6 stars if that were an option. read more

The guys at RIDE treated me so well. They were honest, helpful, and patient as I took road bikes on test rides. Brent was great at making sure I was fitted properly for my new bike, and passed on info about local rides. I ended up buying two Giant bikes from them. Since I was moving away soon, Brent made it possible for them to be shipped to the store and built before I had to leave. Then, he helped me load both Giants onto the rack with my mountain bike, and made sure nothing would scratch the new toys. Thanks again you guys, I love riding my bike!! read more

Been here twice. Once to buy a little Specialized Hot Rock bike for my son, and again a month later to buy an Electra cruiser for my wife. My son and wife both love their bikes. I like this shop. The guys are knowledgeable. They were not trying to hard sell me anything and let me 'kick the tires' on several bikes before committing. I was actually pretty pleased with the customer service these guys provided. We are lucky to have some good choices for bike shops here.
