I have a ten speed bike at home but these bikes are like mini motor cycles. Brent, seeing our hesitations spent time with us both in the parking lot helping us get used to them. Because let me tell you the first turn out of the lot is onto D street a steep downhill ride to a light at a busy cross street! That was the hardest part of the ride. A four hour round trip to Cardiff cruising the back streets of Encinitas to the SRF Meditation gardens and then to the dedicated bike path along the fabulous coast. Lunch at the Pacific Coast Grill was divine and we cruised home on the multi use path we took back to base. Brent had prepared us well with a thorough review of the map and recommendations. On the morning of 7/12/2026 I went on a bike ride from near their store on my (pedal) road bike from SB northwards on Coast Highway up to Encinitas where I noticed my wallet missing from a zippered pouch that opened up during the ride. Panic mode set in right away, so I looked on my return trip back and couldn't find it. Did the usual, by posting on Craigslist and Nextdoor. This morning I parked and walked the same route, and didn't find it. But on the way back I received a text on my LinkedIn account from Elias at San Diego Electric Bike that said he found it! I called them and it was confirmed, they had my wallet! Wow, what a relief..!! This is a prime example of HONESTY, something that needs to be commended. I left a small reward for Elias, and glad there are people like him around. That said, while my girlfriend has a (pedal) bike, she really isn't a cyclist, but I'm going to do my best to convince her to give an e-bike a try, so I'll see them if she agrees. Not satisfied with my decision and planning to return the bike I bought less than 12 hours later...I decided to hit Charlie's which was one of the few in the area I hadn't tried yet, specifically because of the poor reviews here. I had a 10/10 experience, especially by comparison here. Charlie (not the owner, I asked) was friendly, approached us within a few minutes of us arriving, was knowledgeable and answered any and all questions and was very patient with us and our ignorance. Picked up a bike that he seemed to know a lot about, and when I did my own research before buying he was spot on with all of the information. I was glad to give him my business, and I hope that if I experience any service needs in the future for my bike that they will exhibit the level of service I was provided today. First, Dan is super-friendly, safety conscious and very affordable. I had shopped around and a friend recommended i check them out and after checking out the stock in the shop (by Bobby Riggs and SDA) I decided to support a local business. I had read a lot of reviews of people buying big box ebikes or online stuff and having nightmares Trying to fix stuff. Lo and behold, My son had an accident (he is fine, thankfully!) and Steve repaired it gratis today! (I couldnt believe they were open, let alone able to fix it on a Sunday!) It actually took longer to drive there than the fix. They were out of the part (steering wheel stem) and he pulled it off of another bike they had in stock! Never met Dan or Steve before this, but so impressed with speed and attention to detail. Btw, the stem did not break in the accident, but I stripped the part where you screw it in afterwards. Totally my fault. I am guessing if I had bought a big box brand, there would have been a cost and significant wait for this type of part/repair. Others can probably inform better there. My son asked me to make this post, he loves his bike, its got leather seats, super -comfy and he said its seems better made than a lot of the ones he sees at his school CCA.
