The food was ok, I didn't find it bad at all but probably wouldn't go out of my way to get it, like I did this time loll. Called in, walked inside ten min later and got my food. There was a location close to where I went to high school, and the original location is located close to where I went for my part-time afterschool job. The breaded steak sandwich stands the test of time, as every time I have had one, it remains undefeated in terms of flavor and conquering hunger. Hefty, hearty portion of breaded steak and red sauce. I always get it with mozzarella cheese, occasionally with some peppers. I love Rico's fries as they, too, can be addicting. The pizza plays second fiddle to the world famous breaded steak, but not because it's lesser than. It's just a darn good pizza. Good amount if cheese on the slices. I love Ricobene's!!! I've been going here ever since I was kid, and nothing has changed. My favorite items to get are the chicken vesuvio, deep dish slices, or the hot wings. The best hack here is that you get free refills on soda if you ask. The service is okay - they seem to always be busy, so I understand why they might be a little tired from all the orders. I'd been looking forward to trying Ricobene's for a long time. First off, love that it has a big parking lot across the street, very convenient. Also a great vibe and atmosphere inside, with quick friendly service. Of course for my first time I went with the Breaded Steak Sandwich. I was hoping/expecting it to be cut in half for me, I guess since I'd seen so many photos like that. But it wasn't. When I unwrapped it, I immediately felt like there was too much sauce on it. It was very messy, which I had heard about, but mine looked even saucier than most photos. Now, I did order a King Size, but I just thought that would mean a slightly longer sandwich and maybe a bit more meat. I did not expect so much extra sauce. I felt like I couldn't appreciate the breaded steak or even the bread cuz it was all too soggy. When I go next I'm going to get the standard size to compare, and if it's still the same, I'd try and ask easy on the sauce I will say though their fries were fantastic. They are famously known for their breaded steak sandwiches, but they also have Italian sandwiches, thin, pan, and deep dishes, hot dogs, char-broiled hot dogs, pastas, BBQ, wings, and apps/sides. You go up to any of the cashiers and place your order; you'll receive a receipt with a number and just wait until they call out for you. I ordered: +a regular-sized Breaded Steak - topped and dressed in red gravy; I customized this to be on a garlic bread instead of their usual Tuscano French bread; added shredded mozzarella cheese and topped with giardiniera +chili cheese fries The breaded steak sandwich was massive, even for a 'regular' size, and this can easily feed 2-3 people. Definitely stacked and very generous in terms of the breaded steak and the cheese; I wished that they had added more giardiniera, as there were only like 2-3 diced peppers that I could find. The red gravy was more on the sweeter side, but, again, I liked how 'saucy' the sandwich was. The chili cheese fries, in which others have raved about, were just okay; while it contained a lot of beans (which I liked), I feel that there should be more and better cheese sauce that comes with; fries didn't seem freshly made and were not piping hot, and they were already soggy when received. There is a good number of tables inside to dine-in, but I saw a lot of orders to go. I'd be curious to try out their pizzas next time. The King size Breaded Steak Sandwich. Add Mozzarella and Hots on the side-ok! Huge sandwich and enough for two and maybe 3. What can I say about Ricobene's? It's good for the whole family. It's a Chicago staple. It's a delicious sandwich you have to try at least once in your life. It's a far drive for me but I usually stop here anytime I'm driving back from Indiana or Michigan. I always get my sandwich with hot peppers. Its gigantic but would you believe there's an even bigger size available? They have fantastic Italian ice in multiple flavors. The place is always packed but there is somehow always seating available despite the massive crowds by the registers. If you are driving here, there is a nice size free parking lot across the street and also street parking. I ordered their famous breaded steak sandwich and was not disappointed. We didn't get to try their sandwiches as we were in a hurry. They also have a dedicate parking lot across the place if you are in town driving. Definitely will try their other menu when we get back. I have been coming here for years but not as often as I would like so I never seemed to review them until now. They are definitely deserving, I mean.. one of Chicago's Best am I right? Everyone truly comes here for one reason & one reason only, the breaded steak sandwich with mozzarella cheese & giardineira is definitely the start of the show! Their pizza is also pretty good depending on your taste, I know every Chicagoan complains about either deep dish or tavern style but theirs reminds me of Lou Malnati's crust with the corn meal in it. The vibe has dive written all over it. They have tables & chairs but no servers, only counter service..definitely efficient for the large crowds. Last time I was here was about 6 months to a year ago so I decided to snag 2 King sized breaded steaks with the works as I explained above for my ride back home. Figured I could have one immediately after arriving from my hour trip out of the city & one for the following days if I worked up another itch for it. These things(King sized) are so huge(about 8" long & 3" wide), I could only eat half at a time so the combined two sandwiches lasted me about a week which was perfect. I don't eat the same meal twice in a row or two days in a row rather so I had enough to not crave it again for awhile. Great historic spot for some extremely good-but-unhealthy eats - LOL! My husband always gets the breaded steak sandwich, which I guess is their bestseller and staple menu item (pictured). In the past I've gotten the banana milkshake, chocolate milkshake, pepper and egg sandwich, and chicken noodle soup.
