It's been a few years, but figured I would give this place another chance with the new owners. A BLT is not difficult. How can you mess up a BLT? Well, here's how: One piece of bread was burnt (yes, burnt black) and the other piece of bread was barely toasted at all. Two pieces of bacon? Standard would be 3-4 pieces. Two?! Chunks of mayo in a corner instead of being somewhat spread out? Seriously, it's a BLT. Only upside: fries were good. $8.50 for all of that? Yeah, I don't think so. Take better care with your food and could be worth more than that, but I wouldn't pay $4 for this meal, again. What a waste! read more

What a difference a day makes! We started off this girls weekend with a terrible dinner experience at the Sand Dollar, and thankfully found Rick's Restaurant this morning for breakfast that turned it all around. What a nice place!! The staff were all friendly, and the food was delicious. We had a few different things among our group, and we were all happy. I borrowed a bite of my friend's blueberry pancakes raft were delish. The Hollandaise on the eggs Benedict was 100% homemade, the breakfast sandwich divine. But beyond the great good, the service was amazing. We were there during the Sunday morning rush, but the entire staff moved efficiently Thru the restaurant and kept things moving along - but we never felt rushed. So yummy! Okay so i downloaded this app just to rant about this shitty establishment. Just to set some ground, the service was a catastrophe, lady that was serving us said about 4 words to us the whole time. Pancakes were extremely burnt, Bacon the same. I went with myself and 3 of my friends with high hopes and hungry stomachs. If they let me put zero stars i would. this review is all over the place but i've never ever had such a crappy breakfast. We all ate about 3 bites of pancakes. At the end of the meal we asked for a box for not eaten pancakes and we got no answer from our server. She walked away and gave us the smallest box they had. Been living in Kittery for a bit now, and somewhat tired of the typical fare. Did a little due diligence and came across Rick's here on Yelp, only disappointed by the fact I had not come here sooner! Jesus Christ the breakfast was unreal! Potatoes are cooked perfectly, soft with a bit of crunch and godly seasoning. This spot was awesome. Don't be deceived by the entrance!! Super friendly and extremely fast service. Got the steak and cheese egg sub that had lots of peppers and just enough jalapeños. DONT GO HERE!! I had a horrible experence here today. We waited FOREVER for our breakfast. It took 10 minutes before we even got drinks yet 2 tables seated after us had already ordered during that time. The waitress litterly asked me if I wanted a refill on my coffee, I said yes, and she just walked away never to be seen again. Id say the service was bad but I almost can't even say that because there was almost no service to even rate. We let it be known they we were very dissatisfied with being basically ignored and the extremely slow service and they were completely unapologetic. They even went as far as to consciously and blantently ignore the fact that we were clearly having a terrible experence. The only positive I can say is that the bus boy (who ended up being the one to finally get our drinks) seemed like a really nice kid. Amazing food with wonderful staff service! This place made our girls weekend after a disastrous service experience at the Sand Dollar the previous evening. This visit to Ricks was underwhelming. The server was busy and tired and that energy just sort of hung in the small dining room- not relaxing. One table walked out while we were there. . Food was ok, not great as the previous visit had been. Will try Rick's again sometime as I love the cute dining room and had a great experience there a few months ago, but not right away. read more

DON'T GO HERE, unless you care to wait 40 minutes for your food even when it's not that busy and I would even go as far as calling their service insulting. They take a long time to come to tables, bring you menus, etc., etc., but will have your check ready with astonishing speed - just whipped out of a pocket on the spot! When I ordered, the chick was like, "that's all you want?" (2 eggs over medium, toast, breakfast potatoes, and a fruit cup - is that so little?) Then I asked her a question about the French toast (I wanted to ask if there was dairy in it, having already let her know I was lactose intolerant) which she answered kind of rudely, making an obnoxious face like before. I'm like .... do you WANT to get stiffed?? (Even having waitressed for most of my life, I wouldn't have given her a gd dime.) The food itself was good, but I was NOT happy about the service. Certainly not worth a 40 minute wait with a newly-widowed woman in failing health and/or a restless 4-year-old. It wasn't like the place was packed. One of the people I went to the place with says that when the new owner remodeled, they put in just one small griddle to cook food on, which is why the service is so slow. Rick's was recently renovated and switched owners after a fire in 2015 shut down the original restaurant. The result is a funky, clean, shabby-chic style restaurant with friendly and personable wait-staff and a menu that is to die for. I hesitate to write a good review about Rick's, because I love this place so much and I selfishly don't want it to become too popular. Rick's is the best kept secret in York. They have the BEST breakfasts. Unlike most of the restaurants in the area geared towards tourists, they are affordable and serve a wide variety of food, from healthy (Salmon Arugula) to guilty pleasures (Chocolate Chip pancakes). read more

A must-go to place for breakfast while in York. I've been here many times and absolutely love it. I've never been disappointed. I particularly love the eggs and pancakes. The size is definitely on the smaller side but was happy to accommodate my group of seven without a problem. (Rick's will always be in my heart since the first time I came here they were having an anniversary special from when they first opened with original prices. With all the good reviews, I had higher expectations. Listen... People order eggs in a manner to keep the yolks in tact; amazing, isn't it? If I owned or cooked at a breakfast restaurant, I would not send out an egg with a popped yolk, nevermind 2. If I want popped yolks, I'll cook my own frigging eggs! It shows absolutely no pride from the cook. I've sent eggs back before and always get unpleasant looks from waitstaff, so I bite my tounge. Would this piss you off too? We stopped here for breakfast as we like to try the local places when we travel. The food was good - nothing crazy amazing but it fueled our bike ride to the Nubble light house. Since we brought our bikes, we didn't have to worry about parking. We got seated right away and didn't have to wait too long for the food to come out. We hung out for a while after eating (before we hopped back on our bikes) and didn't receive any dirty looks from the staff so I'd call it a breakfast success! read more

The place where the York locals go. Great small town diner. The management has changed almost every year I've been back to visit. The food and waitresses seem to stay the same(which are terrific) but the food has changed each time. Of note are the grilled blueberry muffins which are fantastic. The specials all look good too.
