Menu and prices like fine dining, but there aren't even tablecloths on the tables. The rice with corn and poblanos looked so dried out, and brown, I wouldn't eat it. Fried pork chop was greasy, but juicy. Wouldn't come back. read more

Overpriced watered down margarita's that were flavorless. Had Patron top shelf margarita -for $17 should have been great , then ordered a floater- not knowing that would be $12 more, to try to "fix" it -but tasted same. Nice outside patio. Poor service. read more

In Tyler, everyone goes to Rick's; especially if you are waiting for a jury verdict from federal court. Surprisingly there is only one set of prices and I think it would only be "fair" to have a higher price for attorneys representing the likes of Apple. No draft beer! What is up with that? I had a burger. It met Nebraska standards. Fries, however, were soggy. The local gunslingers I was with had seafood, but I was afraid to try it. I love Ricks! I've always had good service each time I visit and the food never disappoints. Spinach salad with their bacon vinaigrette is to die for. Add shrimp, if you want something heavier. It's labelled as "nightlife," but I've only ever been for lunch--and what a tasty lunch it was! I had a cup of some kind of seafood bisque that made me forget I was in woefully unseafoody Tyler for a second. My sandwich was perfectly piled with tons of meat between two flavorful marbled slices of rye. Our waiter was a bit quiet, like a waiter-ninja--hard to hear but eager to bring me enough mayonnaise to satisfy my appetite for the best condiment ever invented. The interior is a bit dark and can get a little noisy, but it's cozy. It's an old building with lots of cool woodwork. Rick's is not just for nighttime--it's great for lunch, too! read more

First visit here but not the last. Sat at the bar for lunch and enjoyed one of the best sandwiches ever - the shaved rib eye sandwich. Courtney was a wonderful, friendly host & bartender. Downtown Tyler is only 15 minutes off I-20, and Rick's is located on the bricks around the courthouse square. It's a great place to eat and wet your whistle. read more

Short story they refused to let my pregnant sister in law to use the restroom unless we bought something, so my brother got a $6 Michelob. In Tyler for business, found this spot downtown. Friends had the chicken and dumplings special for lunch. I had a burger with bacon and blue cheese (which I quickly deconstructed to remove the delicious looking brioche bun that is not on my diet). Went here for 62 Anniversary, first time and was a delight. We love food with lots of different flavors on same plate, was not disappointed!Shrimp cocktail was great,entrees all superb,cooked to perfection!! We are from Chicago where the food and flavors are amazing, and this place is comparable to Chicagoland's best steakhouse. We had 5 dinners, different steaks, all were great! Cooked nicely and juicy and seasoned right. Also had 2 appetizers which were reallllllly good. The service was absolutely flawless too! That alone would bring us back because it is so hard to find good service these days in Chicago or Texas. Will definitely be back if we come back to Tyler. read more

Stopped in for dinner during happy hour. Pretty thin in terms of customers. I got concerned. Ordered the grilled redfish with asparagus, potato au gratin, rice, corn, and poblano and banana pudding for dessert. The meal was great. All the dishes were cooked and seasoned very well. And the banana pudding was definitely homemade from scratch. Service was great and knowledgeable about the food. The atmosphere had a very executive, professional feel. Excellent! I thought we were in trouble when the front desk clerk at the hotel told us the best place in town was Chili's. She was so wrong. Went over to Rick's and Immediately Travis introduced us to Justin. Just said he made the best Manhattan, he was right. The food prepared by Miss Gigi was equally as good. We had the grilled oysters, Texas Bites, and some huge salads. Great conversation with Justin and overall excellent evening. If we are ever back in that part of East Texas we will be stopping by for more of a good thing. read more

Horrible service! The waitress was probably the worst that I have ever had. Never got a drink from her...had to go to the bar the entire night. After dinner, went to bar to get more drinks, after waiting a very long time and watching ladies get service, I asked the bartender "do I need tits to get service"? After a few words, I was kicked out of the establishment. At that point, I told the owner Rick to "f" himself. I obviously will never go back and would recommend the same for any other. It's sad because the food is actually pretty good. BUT, you expect much better service and respect from a place of business at this level. Such a cute place in downtown Tyler. The guys at the door were EXTRA friendly and inviting. There was a $5 cover, and I'm not a huge fan of covers, but I was glad to have paid once we were inside. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside on the patio. Plenty of seating facing the stage for the live music. The waitstaff was quick on their feet and very pleasant. The drinks were good, not too strong, not too weak. The band was excellent and at a good volume. I still could talk to my date and not have to strain to talk or hear him. You could come dressed any way you pleased it seemed jeans or dresses were both acceptable. Very enjoyable time. read more

Normally my wife and I visit in the mid-afternoon, the lunch menu is a great deal! The food is wonderful, forget about desert you will be too full, but I buy it anyway to bring home. Cakes are made fresh on site...the wait staff and everyone involved with Rick's are wonderful. The crowd that visits are fun and all ages. Suits and jeans...with the soft sounds of blues. Stopped into Ricks last night before the Marsha Ball concert at the Liberty theater. We sat at the bar and ordered a few appetizers and a beverage. It's been a while since we have been to Ricks, so we were pleasantly surprised. Below is my review... Good selections of wines by the glass. My Paso Robles choice was the Liberty School Cab, competitively priced at $8.50 a glass. They also have a good selection of beers and spirits. Our appetizers were stellar. We had the crawfish beignets, crawfish and escargot in a spectacular buttery garlic cheese sauce, and ahi tuna - rare. All were absolutely wonderful! The escargot and crawfish made my tongue do the happy dance, and I wanted to slurp the accompanying sauce, which I did not do, but really wanted to! The beignets were crisp and spicy, with a soft, warm middle. Ahi was perfect, although the accompanying wasabi lacked the spicy kick I am accustomed to. A minor detail to such dining perfection. Jack continues to reside over one of the best dining establishments in Tyler, and I look forward to a revisit with a more proper sit down evening to come. Keep it up, Jack. Rick needn't worry with you at the helm....and perhaps a raise might be in order? read more

A real restaurant out here in the boonies that makes you wonder if you are really in Tyler, Texas! With properly shaken martinis served in chilled martini glasses and everything! Rockin' appetizer menu at dinner, and if you're lucky, a rockin' band afterwards. Perfectly civilized lunch menu at about the same price you would pay for a below average lunch elsewhere. Rick's is one of our favorite places in Tyler! The atmosphere is great and the building has great character. We love sitting at the bar for just drinks or even eating dinner. The staff is friendly and fun to visit with. Everything is yummy, but my favorite things on the menu are the Texas bites and the mac and cheese. My husband loves the shaved ribeye sandwich. We also have used Rick's for catering and the food was a hit at our party. The price was also super reasonable. Go to Rick's; it's a Tyler staple! read more
