I drive through the causeway quite often, thought I would give Rick's café a shot, it always looks busy, the door was open so we went in only to have the host tell us the restaurants not open yet, and to come back. So we walked out the door looking at our cell phones to see what time it is, and it was 4 minutes before opening time. Seriously?!?, I almost said forget it and didn't go back, however I stood outside the door for three to four minutes with an elderly couple who was told the same thing. I walked back in because I was hungry, but now I was feeling a little annoyed by the hosts lack of appreciation for the restaurant's patrons.
I asked to sit outside on the patio by the sidewalk, the host put us out on the patio "we were the only people on the patio at that moment" and the host sat us right outside the door leading to the patio away from the desirable sections near the sidewalk looking out over the lake "long lake" and the host quickly ran off.
I didn't want to be rude and move myself "though I should have" so I went back in the restaurant looking for the host, though the host was nowhere to be found, so I asked one of the waitresses if she would mind if my guest and I moved to the tables near the sidewalk / road to enjoy the view, we were met with rolling eyes and the feeling we were a total annoyance. A few minutes later the host came out and asked us to move back, I thought it was a joke, "we were the only two people out on the patio" but the host said we were messing up the seating for the waitress. I told him politely "I am a paying customer, you should be working hard to please me first, and the staff second." The host said nothing and walked off without another word.
No exaggeration, 25 MINUTES later the waitress came over to get our drink order just as we were about to say forget it again for the second time, and treated us again as if we were a total annoyance when we said we would like to order our meals along with our drink order.
The food came our rather quickly, however my burger had canned mushrooms on it and not the sautéed mushrooms the menu described for an extra $1.00 add-on topping. My cheese was American cheese, though I asked for white cheddar. The burger was well done when I asked for medium rare, and my bun was disgusting, tasted like old buns off of a Super Walmart bakery shelve marked down as managers special, untoasted, very dry, and sponge like. The french-fries tasted pretty good, were crispy with good flavor, my lemonade was mostly all ice.
My guest got a turkey club sandwich with french-fries, I was told it was flavorful and good, the margarita was "OK" but nothing special, tasted like a pre-mixed drink.
We got the artichoke dip in a bread bowl with corn chips as an appetizer, the artichoke dip was room temperature, and not hot and melted as it should have been. The corn chips were mostly crumbs like you would find in the bottom of the bag and tasted like cheap quality chips, not restaurant style most expect to be served when going out to eat, I've had better corn chips from a gas station at 1:00 am in the morning.
I had a hard time coming to terms paying $60.00 plus tip for a kind of crappy meal, and poor service.
