His shop (a two car garage on a dirt road) is unpretentious, but the shop is equipped with adequate tools to do the jobs. The ample supply of blades hanging on the wall speaks of animal shearing and such. We had a nice discussion - Todd's an interesting and personable guy with a great sense of humor. In my case, I brought in seven extremely dulled kitchen knives after 10+ years of abuse. Even though I steeled my blades often and even gave them new edges once in a while I just wasn't doing it well enough. This was very apparent when cutting tomatoes and even slicing open the saran wrap plastic on a package of meat! I returned a few days later and was surprised at the sharpness! I mean I don't think they were this sharp when I bought them! I would classify a few of them as "razor blades!" He warned me that I should be extra cautious because I've been using these dull for so many years, I won't be ready for the new experience. He was right. As soon I as got home, I immediately took them out of their paper sleeves (which he placed each one) and placed them on my magnetic knife holder ... sliced my finger open. Derp ... But , hey the cut was super clean! :P Knife sharpening is a small portion of his business but he does it well. I took the knife to Johnny who sharpened it better than new without batting an eye. I also brought in two very old vintage scissors inherited from my mom who brought them from her home country over 5 decades ago. These scissors were precious to me, as I inherited them when she passed away. They were among the few things I was able to recognize and dig out of the Eaton fire rubble that was once my home. I brought them to Johnny just to see if he could clean them so I could display them in our rebuild and he did not disappoint. Not only did he clean the large one, but he was able to separate the blades and sharpen them, too. Johnny asked for my mom's name so that he could think about her as he worked on the knives.
