So bummed Dr. Rodriguez retired:( not only was he amazing but his whole entire staff was friendly, kind and went above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Fast forward to whatever year we're in...Dr. Michels is nice and informative but her staff is not only unkind but arrogant and down right disrespectful. We arrived for my daughter's appt and the sliding glass door was locked even though 3 people were visible as we tried to open...they knew we were there but fully ignored us. Bizarre that even though we arrived early to a return appt...we were treated like we've never been in before and ignored. 2 minutes later the receptionist abruptly opened the slider and asked who the appt was for...when I answered, she rolled her eyes, grabbed a clip board and paperwork and handed it to me without looking in my direction. As she closed the slider again, she told me to knock when I was finished. This was the most uncomfortable situation I've ever been in medically. The doctor was nice but there's so many out there who will not only appreciate our business but make sure their whole operation is running efficiently, respectively and with kindness. We will not be back...ever. read more

Dr. Rodriguez is, by far, the best! Now, on the east coast, I miss his expertise and professionalism. Thanks, Dr. Rodriguez for taking care of my baby blues. read more

Richard M Rodriguez, OD - Optometrists Near Me - Vista, California

I recently had a very thorough eye exam at this office. Everyone was so nice, the equipment seemed very modern, and the wait time was was reasonable. The entire process is very efficient but you don't feel rushed. The Dr. I saw very kind and really listened to what my needs and concerns were. I was referred to this office by my neighbor and I would also highly recommend! read more

Dr. Sharon Leong is absolutely wonderful! Anyone needing optical services should come see her, she is so professional and an absolute delight to see. She brought up issues with my eyes that no one else has shared and I felt more comfortable than I ever have before. I will only come to her from now on, I am so thankful to her and the wonderful ladies here! Thank you! read more

Top-notch care from every single individual I had contact with in this office. Everyone was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient. Doctor Rodriguez took the time to precisely explain what was happening with my eyes, what I could expect in the future, and how to take care of my eyes. Five stars? Is that all? I really wish I could give them ten stars! read more

I've been using the Optometrists at Costco for about 10 years with great satisfaction...until today. I stopped by the store to refill my Dailies contact lenses ($83.00), and noticed that Costco has Daily Wear lenses as well for about $53, and wanted to try them for a month... of course the Opticians can only sell what is prescribed...got it! So I spoke to the office staff and asked if they could get my optometrist to simply approve my change of brands...a simple request done by many offices...but NOT under the policies of Kimberly Michel, OD. I would have to make an appointment ( 3 weeks out) and pay an office visit for a new exam ( even though my prescription is less than 6 months old)... and they wouldn't even ask when the optometrist was between patients. WTF! They expected me (and most likely you) to Spend nearly $175 to ask if I can have a -2.50 Costco brand lenses rather than the $83 brand of Dailies I've been wearing. My response is that I will be using another Optometrist rather than the money grubbing group at Costco. So, if you are at the Costco in Vista on Hacienda Way, don't expect to receive anything for loyal patronage... or trying to save money... no the staff is all about the money, and NOT your vision care! read more

Dr. Rodriguez is such a great eye doctor! He's very friendly & does a great job explaining everything that's going on with his patients. I went in wanting an exam for contacts. I have really bad astigmatism. He explained fully what my options were, and helped me to realize that contacts weren't really the right thing for me. So I ended up with a regular glasses exam & also found out I have cataracts so not to waste my money to try & get lasik surgery because they won't do lasik if you have cataracts. He saved me a lot of time & money. read more

Went to Costco bc I no longer have insurance. It was $119 for my eye exam and another $210 for my toric lenses (1year supply). I found the contacts cheaper online at www.contacts1st.com ($173 total). Regarding the service... I didn't meet the doc himself but saw him with another patient. Instead another doc helped me ( I forgot her name but she was a little Asian lady). She was great. Friendly but to the point. The lady at the front desk also is friendly and professional. I was taken in almost right away and was in and out in less than 30 minutes! Great service!! Def recommend. read more

I had an eye exam today after only scheduling two days ago. Easily the most efficient and thorough eye exam I have ever had! The front office staff made the process quick and simple before I saw Dr. Michel. I explained to her my concerns being a graduate student and she really took the time to make sure my prescription worked for me and my study habits! Everyone in this office is very friendly and informative. I would highly recommend! read more

Always great care and service from Dr. Rodriguez and his staff.

I went to Dr. Rodriguez years ago. After years of different jobs with insurances taking me to several different eye doctors, I'm at a point where I'd rather just pay out-of-pocket and go right back to Dr. Rodriguez. In the quest for good healthcare providers, you will probably run a gamut from the incompetent boobs to the absolutely stellar, and you will no doubt have to sift through a lot of nonsense and the not so occasional "ego on a stick". If I can save anyone the trouble, or shorten the steps on that journey... GREAT! Dr. Rodriguez is thorough, professional (without the stuffiness), and a straight-talker... he'll neither sugar-coat a turd, nor will he use scare tactics to up-sell you on anything (and how refreshing is that?). He has a no-nonsense approach, but can be quite funny if the moment/situation is right... and yet, even that won't break his focus on what he's doing. My vision is very important to me. I like him. I trust him. I'll happily pay out-of-pocket... and I'll be back. read more

Dr. Michel was great! She did our eye exams and corrected our prescriptions, the whole staff was great from start to finish

Really great experience today. Went in to get checked up- since the last time I visited an eye doctor it was 20 years ago. Made an appt (I believe you need one at this location). Doctor Richard was awesome, very informative and walked me through everything. They have a really cool new eye scanner that takes images of your whole eye without dilating and it was easy and fast and gave a great picture. I highly recommend this place for your eye exam needs and will be using them for all future time. This office was located in Costco read more

This review is for Dr. Tran who works at the same location as Dr. Rodriguez at the Vista Costco location. The Vista location is closer for me rather than the Morena Blvd location who I have been going to for over 10 years. A shout out to Jillian Dr Tran's assistant who greeted me and checked me in and did some of the preliminary eye tests. She has a great attitude and really moved things along very efficiently and professionally. Nice to have staff that work so well with the public and take care of your needs. Dr. Tran was equally as friendly and professional and really spend the time to look at all angles of my vision. I came away with a great experience and feeling that I had found a great Dr that could take care of my needs and was close by. Truly a win-win situation. Dr. Tran and Jillian come highly recommended! read more

Dr. Rodriguez was absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend stopping by his office for an eye appointment. I went to visit him while I was away at school and was too far away from my optometrist in my hometown. Instantly, he came off as very professional and after speaking with him throughout my appointment, it became evident that he is extremely knowledgeable in optometry. He helped diagnose my issue and provided me with a treatment plan. Honestly, I was not expecting this level of excellence from a Costco optometry, but I would definitely recommend Dr. Rodriguez! read more

I had to write in today, to let people know about the outstanding eye care I've gotten from Dr. Rodriguez, at the Costco Optometry department, on Hacienda Dr., Vista, California. We moved to San Diego county six years ago, and didn't know anyone, or how to get anywhere. It was a stroke of luck that this Costco is just blocks away, and I took a chance making an appt. there for my contact lenses. I use mono vision contacts, and when the exam was finished, I walked out the door to order the lenses, and in a matter of days they came in. The first day of use I was AMAZED. I'd been wearing contacts more than 5 years, and had no idea it was POSSIBLE to see this well. He's the only eye doctor I've ever written to thank for HITTING THE NAIL ON THE HEAD as far as my prescription goes. This year, for my annual exam, he gave me a correction, and I ordered the lenses. I was ill about a month following, but still they allowed me a new visit, because I thought I wasn't reading well with the new prescription. When we met, he noticed that he DID increase one of the lenses, but I thought it was too strong. I admitted that was MY mistake, because I really needed the extra strength to read comfortably. No problem. Dr. Rodriguez gave me a new lens to try for a week, before I ordered lenses. He also gave me another lens, in case the first one was too strong. When all was solved, he gave me replacement lenses for the 1st prescription that wasn't working (because of my error, I should add). I was not charged anything for the two subsequent appointments, and know, if there are any more difficulties, he'll take care of me. I think Dr. Rodriguez, will work on any issue, until it's solved, but usually, he nails your vision needs the first time around. I give him 10 stars. Judy Choitz Oceanside read more

My dad has been going to Richard for many years. Recently my sister and I followed and we loved it! I know what you're thinking, an optometrist inside Costco?! Yes, that is right! His staff is friendly, Richard always makes sure you are comfortable. He will work with you no matter how long until he gets your prescription right. I ended up not purchasing glasses from Costco, but was very happy with my exam. Which was only around $50, which I was happy with considering I don't have insurance. My dad has been saying great things about Richard for years, I am so glad I went to see him! read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Rodriguez for over 8 years now, and we LOVE him. I was at first skeptical about how good a "Costco doctor" could be....but I needed a quick, inexpensive eye exam one day, and went to him in a pinch. I have never gone anywhere since then. I have bad eyes and complicated problems, and have been to many eye doctors before, but I have never found anyone I like as well and who solved my vision issues like he has. I have complete confidence in him, and I recommend him to all my friends. He is awesome!! read more

Dr. Rodriguez is the best! I've been going to Costco optometry for several years and he's always giving the best service. He is very professional and knowledgeable. He spends ample amount of time answering all my questions. I highly recommend him and I won't aee anyone else! read more

Dr. Rodriguez is the MOST amazing eye doctor ever! He not only did he educate my about your eye health, he took the time to tell me how my cholesterol and diet controlled diabetes can effect my vision, and how to keep my body healthy to help my vision. I wear progressive lenses that I really don't like but he made sure to explain to the people who would be measuring me for my glasses exactly what my needs are to ensure they would work well for me. Besides the fact that he's a great doctor, I don't have insurance so the price is fantastic! read more

I went there once a year ago and they were OK. Have tried calling five times this week during business hours to schedule an appointment and they haven't answered once. Left a message also and no return phone call. Will be finding a new eye doctor now. read more

Called his office on 10/14 at 12:30. No answer. His voice message said they are open with lunch later in the day. If they can't answer the phone and take appointments... no matter how good they are and no matter what price they charge... the are USELESS! I also called the Costco Administrative staff to complain. Either they are in business or they are not. That's the bottom line. If they can't provide customer service... and damn good customer service... then GET OUT OF COSTCO which is an excellent company! read more

This office is great! Dr. Michael & the staff here are awesome!!!! I highly, highly recommend them! Being a contact lens wearer for almost 10 years now, I discovered my eyes were having some issues. Dr. Michael has been so caring giving me a whole treatment plan on taking care of my eyes and making sure that I'm seeing 20/20 always! She gave me the option of two week lenses and the daily kind to try out to see which works best comfort and vision wise and even ordered more for me to try to see if they worked even better for me! read more

Dr. Rodriguez and his staff where amazing!! Friendly, efficient and cost-effective. Dr. was quick, & easy to talk to...we discussed a few things regarding my vision, prescription, and even had great recommendations for my constant computer screen use (6-8 hours a day). I appreciate all the insight and suggestions. Definitely recommend this group, and I can even order a pizza while I wait.....Thanks! read more

I have visited Dr. Rodriguez's office for my annual eye appointment for the past 3 years, and it is always a phenomenal experience. From the moment I walk in, the staff makes me feel at home. I am always greeted warmly by the receptionist, Jillian, who is friendly, efficient, and consistently clear in her explanations of the paperwork and pre-testing that needs to be completed prior to seeing the doctor. I have had appointments with 3 different doctors: Dr. Tran (who is no longer there), Dr. Kashak, and Dr. Rodriguez. All of the doctors who I have seen here are incredibly pleasant, accommodating, helpful, and knowledgeable, and clearly all of the doctors and staff at this practice have a great rapport with one another. My most recent visit was with Dr. Rodriguez, the owner of the practice, and it was an outstanding experience. He clearly knows his stuff and the appointment was thorough but quick and easy. I got fitted for contacts for the first time in over 5 years, and Dr. Rodriguez was extremely helpful in picking out the right lenses and walking me through how to put them in. After my appointment was over, Jillian and the receptionist-in-training helped check me out. The appointment was incredibly affordable at only $99 to get a prescription for both glasses and contacts, so I highly recommend this practice for anyone without optical insurance. Also as a side note: you do not need a Costco membership for an appointment here; a membership is only required to purchase glasses or contact lenses at the adjacent (but separate) optometry department. Overall, going to Dr. Rodriguez's office is an excellent experience and a great value, and I will definitely be returning for my annual appointments for many years to come. read more

I made an appointment with Dr. Tran on a Saturday, who also works in the office. The medical assistant/receptionist greeted me and I filled out the short medical history form. She then performed the pressure test (puff of air), peripheral vision test, and one other machine that I can't remember. I recalled that I was never told the results of these initial test. I assume they were okay. I was asked to go into the exam room and a very smartly dressed man walked in, who was Dr. Tran. He was very patient with me and we had a lengthy discussion about the changes in my vision and the need for a prescription for glasses that would work best for the 9-10 hours a day I stare into computer monitors. Dr. Tran then examined my eyes and was very gentle and considerate. Can't wait to return in the next 12-18 months for my next exam. For the callers having problems getting someone to answer the phone. The medical assistant/receptionist works solo and has to check in patients and enter the medical history, administer the initial tests, and take payment and answer questions when patients are done. read more

I am so glad that I went to Dr. Rodriguez for my contacts prescription. I usually go to a vision center that is a little pricier that I felt was not honest with their business. Dr. Rodriguez was very understanding with my concerns, blunt (in a good way), and informational. I like to learn more about my conditions and why I should use Cooper vision toric lenses as opposed to the other name brands that are a little cheaper and more popular amongst consumers and he explained why. Also, he was friendly, quick, and efficient. Great job! read more

I've been a customer here for the past 6 years and I'd hate to leave a bad review because Dr. Rodriguez is amazing, but I hope the staff (receptionist) can learn from this. Any time I try to reach the office, it is the most difficult thing in the world. It has become the norm of not being able to reach them. And I know it is not just me because a few other yelp reviews agree, as well as my brother who has been a customer there for just as long. It's not the fact that it was one, two, or even three times that I could not get ahold of the office, it's the consistency of the unanswered phone calls as well as unanswered voicemails that I leave there for the past SIX years. I seriously don't understand how hard it is to pick up the phone, and I know they are dealing with other patience in the office, however, a simple "please hold" would suffice. Every. Single. Time. I try to reach them, I end up having to bother the optical department and have them physically tell the receptionist to call me back. EVERY. Time. The only good thing about this is that it is so consistent that I am no longer surprised when it happens. The one-star review goes to the receptionist. When I expressed my frustration to the receptionist, she barked back and spoke over me defending herself very rudely as I was trying to explain my frustration very kindly. The staff here really needs to work on their customer service. Until then, I will have to go to another doctor. read more
