This clown was shopping on Amazon asking another member of the staff advice on purchasing a CPU. Right in the operating room. Right in front of me. In front of all the staff. Right before he was going to perform a colonoscopy. I had to fight his miserable office to get my results. When I called him out on him shopping on Amazon instead of actually focusing on his job, this clown doubled down: he told me he was not "shopping" and he watches videos and news between procedures. My husband and I both had colonoscopies done by Dr. Kuritzkes in the past (10 and 5 years ago respectively). We were both very happy with Dr. Kuritzkes, his staff, the facility, the ease of everything, etc. Sadly, all of that has changed, and NOT for the better!!!! My husband was due for his colonoscopy again. He called the office and ended up speaking to someone in - I kid you NOT - India! They have a third world country answering service that doesn't speak understandable English. So then I tried calling...same thing. I tried calling at different times and you get a computer message that the voicemail is full so you can't leave a message. No one ever answers the phone. If you call the surgical center, they give you the office phone number you already tried calling. At some point, after numerous attempts, the hubs got ahold of someone and set up a consultation appt. He was sent a draconian amount of crap to fill out online and was super irritated about that. His consult appt was fine, and they told him he needed to get an EKG from his regular dr first. They also couldn't find the pharmacy - CVS for fucksake - even though we gave them the address and phone number. He called his doctor and told them about the EKG and they said, we can't just do an EKG without some specific order or reason, so THEY tried to call Kuritzkes' office and called us back and said, we can't get through to any live person or voicemail. I said, absolutely NOT. We are not having surgical procedures done with a facility and/or doctor whose office is literally impossible to communicate with. How do you even get your results or ask questions, or get things sent from them to your dr etc., if you need to? Newsflash - you can't. So, we decided to find another place to get our procedures handled. Funny thing was, he couldn't even cancel his procedure because he couldn't get ahold of anyone! He finally had to call the Burbank office, and they had to actually TRANSFER the call to the SCV office because they also couldn't get through when they tried to call there. That was how he canceled his procedure. It's really sad that it's devolved into whatever it is now. read more

If you're like me and you have IBS or Sibo, he's not your guy. It took me over 18 months to talk him into ordering the Sibo test. When it was positive, he insisted I take two weeks of high dose Cipro. I declined and said "I'd prefer to try the diet." He scoffed at me "Nobody does that." I had my first colonoscopy with Dr. Kuritzkes in 2017. At that time I found him to be professional and attentive. Today, 7-28-25, I had my second (attempted) colonoscopy with Dr. Kuritzkes. My impression couldn't be more opposite. I woke up DURING this procedure, in pain, with two nurses forcefully pushing on my abdomen. When I asked why I was awake, Dr. Kuritzkes nonchalantly informed me that I had stopped breathing which required sedation to be halted. Dr. Kuritzkes attempted to continue the procedure despite stating he was unable to move the scope past a "twisted" portion of my colon. He only stopped (abruptly) when I could no longer tolerate the pain. His demeanor gave me the impression that he was annoyed. I really debated writing this review. However, after receiving a follow-up call from Dr. Kuritzkes, where he was politely dismissive and made excuses for everything that went wrong, I felt it necessary to warn others. During our phone call, Dr. Kuritzkes made sure to avoid addressing the fact that I stopped breathing during this procedure. Instead he went so far as to imply scar tissue from previous surgeries caused the difficulty in moving the scope through my colon. I've not had any surgeries since my last colonoscopy in 2017! Dr. Kuritzkes also suggested supplements that I listed 9 years ago, prior to my first colonoscopy, may be to blame for the difficulties during this procedure. Strange that his office staff didn't seem at all concerned about updating current supplements at my most recent consultation appointment. Rather they simply instructed me to stop taking everything a few days prior to the procedure. It's clear to me that Dr. Kuritzkes call was simply an opportunity for him to say all of the right things on his own behalf. Dr. Kuritzkes' final recommendation before ending his pointless "check in" phone call after 8pm on the night of the failed procedure... have another colonoscopy with an anesthesiologist present so that it can be done comfortably. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! I refuse to ever see Dr. Kuritzkes again and wouldn't advise anyone else to either. read more

Dr Kuriitzkes is a successful doctor and gives excellent care in the few minutes you have his attention. A very busy man. I've used him for over 10 years because his manner is very focused and kind. He's also Very expensive: his practice has grown quite large w/ lots of folks working for him. This January I could only get an appointment with his Nurse Practitioner: $365 for 15 minutes of her time just to prescribe a colonoscopy. Don't get me started how expensive THAT was.... read more

He and his staff, both in hospital and in-office, are extremely professional and pleasant to deal with and make sure your questions and concerns are answered thoroughly. My boutique doctor got me in quickly to investigate a Rectal bleed, which turned out to be a minor problem that healed by itself. Dr Richard was thorough and totally painless, and explained everything to me with care and patience. If you are in Burbank or the Valley, I highly recommend him. I normally do not write too many reviews, and especially the bad ones, but this time decided to do so, just to get this off my chest. I have not seen a gastroenterologist for almost 8 years and was looking forward to this one because I had some new issues. Found Dr. K online with some good reviews on Google. I was expecting to have a full exam, like I used to have in the past, not just waiting in the office for the doctor for 20 minutes. But when Dr. K came all we had just a conversation for 5 minutes, I told him about some issues that I had, no questions asked by the doctor about my history before, and absolutely no examination. I could have had the same or even better visit virtually. I did not have to drive, wear my face mask risking getting the Covid-19 in the medical building, as the results would have been the same. What happened to the good old days and the time when doctors used to spend some time examining the patient? And I thought maybe today the examination is different. But it is not! Here what I found online in one of the WMD magazines about the first-time visit to gastroenterologist visits. The article is dated October 2020 "The gastroenterologist will look at you to try to find the cause of your symptoms. You'll lie on the exam table and relax. Your doctor will press down on the skin around your belly. They'll listen for odd bowel sounds and feel for any masses or tenderness. They may ask you to take deep breaths or cough during your exam. They might also check for any bulges or masses, and to check the muscle tone." And so on and so forth. It may take 30 -40 minutes for this exam. And another detail. The next thing to do will be a colonoscopy. Okay, I was considering it. But I did not expect that I would be forced to have general anesthesia during colonoscopy, I was told I would have to go through EKG for this. I was very surprised, I had a colonoscopy done three times before, never had general anesthesia for this, but the nurse insisted, because of my age. My age? What about health, I am perfectly fit, running 5 mi/day, and feel great. Again, I read online that general anesthesia is offered to people who are ill and have heart, severe lung disease, unstable airways, and other issues. General anesthesia is almost never used for colonoscopy. Had a disappointing experience in this office. Will wait for better times. read more

Giving this a low rating due to the incredible unprofessionalism and lack of organization by the office staff. I called and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Kuritzkes' nurse practitioner a couple weeks ago for today, 3/16/23 at 3:45 pm. The disorganization began with my insurance: I am a PPO, and they called my PCP for a referral. I received a very confused phone call from my PCP asking why they were asking for a referral when I was a PPO, they said they would handle it, and I did not hear anything back from Kuritzkes' office or any explanation for why they seemed to think I was on an HMO. I'm a millennial, I put my appointments in my calendar as I'm making them, along with the address. I received a call yesterday confirming my appointment, but I found it very odd that the woman who called did not confirm or say the time of my appointment. I arrive at 3:35 pm today, only to have the receptionist first ask if I have an appointment, and then very coldly inform me that I'm "late" and that my appointment was at 3:00 pm. I explain that I had it down for 3:45 pm, and she says they called to confirm. I tell her that I was not given a time when that call was made, and another woman at the desk (who kept her back to me the entire time) goes: "I called her." Never admits whether or not she said a time. The original woman reads off a sheet that the appointment was at 3:00. I'm not stupid-I'm not going to put 3:45 in my calendar when the appointment is at 3:00 pm. She then sighs heavily and says "she'll see if they can squeeze me in." She shortly returns and tells me the next available appointment is April 13. At no point was I rude to the office staff, and while I was frustrated, accepted the new appointment. However, I am attempting to cancel now that I'm home, because while I think the doctor himself is likely deserving of the good ratings, the ineptitude of his staff made me lose all faith in the office's ability to schedule basic appointments. I also want to add that it's very odd to ask if I have an appointment unless they are taking walk ins. I strongly suspect I was not told a time yesterday because they gave my appointment to someone else, and it would not surprise me if this is because they thought I wasn't given a referral for an HMO that I don't have. I don't appreciate taking the time off work, driving from Van Nuys to Burbank, paying for parking, and then be treated so poorly. Look elsewhere for good care, because this office clearly is going to do their best to make sure you don't receive it. *Currently I'm 6th in the queue to cancel this appointment. So don't think calling the office is going to be easy, either. UPDATE: having read other reviews, it appears that changing appointment times without telling the patients is standard procedure for this office. I also ended up having to leave a message in order to get the appointment canceled, and Vanessa called me back. In my message I cited "unprofessionalism of the office" as my reason for canceling, and she apparently didn't care enough about that to even ask about it. read more

Had my second colonoscopy, after my first 10 years ago. The procedure went well, no reactions so far. I would like to say that some of Dr. Kuritzkes' staff leave some things to be desired. I scheduled my procedure a few months ago, and about a month ago did a consult at the doctor's office. He sent in my Rx for cleansing fluids which I picked up well in advance, using it the day prior to the procedure. However. Just 5 days before the procedure I received a voicemail that they require an EKG prior to the procedure. 5 days before! Really? The day before I was able to see my own doctor to perform the EKG and send it to the office of Dr. Kuritzkes just in time. Also, on the procedure location paperwork they list St. Josephs's hospital, his office, and the nearby surgery center. ONLY his office locate was circled. When I showed up on time at his office it was closed! I called the hospital and they were able to tell me to go to the local surgery center, which was NOT marked in the CHECK BOX as the place to report to. Fortunately, I was able to arrive in time for my procedure having spent all of the day before not eating and drinking the cleansing fluids as required. This doctor's office needs some retraining. The staff who called me the day before the procedure was informed of my complaint. Nothing was said about the location I needed. This place has by far the most unprofessional getto staff I've ever encountered. A woman Named Heather who wouldn't let me get a word is. Told me "I'm making sure no ones trying to screw you" she said this to me after i asked if she even knew what I was calling about before cutting me off . After I called her out for saying such a thing. she just puts me on hold. Then a woman named Ana picks up. Who's not any better at her job then Heather. I ask her what's the woman's name that I just spoke too. She says hold on and puts me on hold. As to find out if she should tell me her name. Comes back and tells me Her name was Heather. Who knows if this is really her name. I tell Ana I called at 9am regarding my test results for a procedure done 3 weeks ago. I was told that they would call me back to find out what's happening because it should only take 7 to 10 days. I followed up at 2pm and now Ana states that she never spoke to me. And she states that she was the only one taking calls that morning. This the type of staff this place has? So I told her. That I have a outgoing call to this exact number and durations 7 min. So I'm lying? She starts to go into how rude I'm being and just puts me on hold. I have to hang up call back and she picks up just puts me on hold. Comes back says sorry I can't find the manager. I never had an issue trying to speak to someone with some type of professionalism in a doctors office before. Somehow I can't reach a nurse, doctor or a manager to give me an update on what happened with a test that was done 3 weeks ago. The doctors amazing but the staff couldn't be any less qualified to work with patience. I've had better customer service at mc Donald's. Extremely Rude Staff This review is about the support staff and not the Doctor/ Nurse Practitioner. On multiple occasions speaking to the staff over the phone has been a really negative experience. Judging by some of the other reviews it seems that mine is not an isolated incident. I was recommended Dr. Kuritzkes by my GP, I never got to see him as he was booked months out, I was in pain so decided to see the NP Kristina Neagos. After some testing I received a few voicemails from the office over a few days regarding my test results. The last voicemail was the NP Kristina who asked me call her back on their office number. When I did, the call was taken to an inexplicably rude and standoffish lady who read out the transcript from the voicemail the day before. When I tried to explain that what she was reading was most likely old and not the new voicemail asking me to call back - she was totally rude and dismissive of what I was trying to get across. At this point I was like look I'm not an idiot and she just interrupted me and said "I will have the NP call you..." and hung up the phone. I tried again later that day hoping a more rational and sane person would take the call and given my luck it was the same person and history repeated itself. The next day I got someone else on the phone who said that she is new there and informed me that it was HEATHER who had spoken to me the day before. I asked for a supervisor and I was told that she is not there. Asked for an email for the supervisor/ Kristina, again denied. She advised me to use the online portal to reach Kristina but that just seems like misdirection again. I am yet to hear about the final test results and next steps, I feel I am being held hostage by humanities worst :( PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF AND TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. read more

I was referred to this doctor and when calling I could not get an answer on the phone for days. After that, I decided to look up the doctor online and send in an inquiry to be seen. They called me back 4 days later, which was today. When I was answering the call, there was someone in the background who was swearing and then I said hello because I was a bit confused about who exactly was on the other end and the lady says, "yeah, you put online that you wanted to make an appointment on our website?" And I was like yes. She verified my email and phone number and then asked what insurance I used. I repeatedly shared the insurance plan type and name and she continuously asked the same question so, I offered to email her the insurance card and she immediately declined and said, "you would need a referral to book here." I said oh, I actually have one and I stated the medical practice and she was like "ummmm I don't think we work with them. I have never heard of them." I asked if it was someone there who knew for certain whether they worked with them or not because I have a physical paper copy of my referral in hand and can send it in via email. She says, "well I am the office manager and I would know who we work with. I am sorry but I don't think we work with them, seriously." I politely said, okay well this is a real referral for sure so...I am not sure what to do here. Then I asked, referral or not, are you saying I cannot make an appointment and she was then caught up and was like well email me the referral and her phone was breaking up and I was trying to understand the email but she continued to just talk over me and I was like, since you have my email there, is there a way you can send me a blank email, I will be able to see your email and respond with both my insurance card and referral and she was like, "No. We do not really email." I'm literally baffled so I say, I will contact my doctor and have them contact you all directly and she just hung up. It was THE MOST BIZARRE and UNPROFESSIONAL call I have ever been on. 0/10 and I did not even get to the doctor. I hope they hire better staff in the future because the office manager is extremely ignorant and lacks basic communication skills. read more

As you can tell by now from previous reviews, this doctor and office are just bizarre. They tell you to come at a certain time then change it and don't even tell you, they expect you to fill out new patient paperwork every time for no reason, and the office has the worst staff working here. Very unprofessional from A to Z. Doctor comes in for 5 mins and doesn't listen and walks out. This last appointment, the office was trying to change my appointment time but I wasn't available the times they wanted me to change to. So I let then know unfortunately I cannot change the appointment time. Next thing you know I spent 40 mins driving to the office and they tell me the doctor has left for the day, on my appointment time. Do yourself a favor and stay away. read more

I used this doctor 3 years ago and was happy. I tried to use them again but the front office was very rude and unhelpful. I visited my GP and got a referral to see Dr. Kuritzkes. I called to make an appointment and a woman called me back and said my doctor would have to fax her the referral. I asked if the referral number would suffice and she said no. I said, okay, I didn't have to do any faxing last time but she said I would now. So, again, I said okay, I'll email my doctor and have him fax the paperwork. And I asked if someone would call me when they got it. She said no. It was my responsibility to call back. So I will find another doctor to do this procedure. I've been a patient of Dr. Kuritzkes for around 10 years. He is one of the few doctors I go to where I actually feel better after visting. Health care is a very private matter. But, I will share that I've had three endoscopies with Dr. Kuritzkes, in addition to office visits. He is very conscientious and patient focused. The surgery suite does an excellent job. The two doctors that I have interacted with at this office have been great. The staff is a totally different story and I agree with the low rating reviews here. I have called three times and the staff has been rude, short, aggressive and made me feel like I was bothering them. This is totally unprofessional and can negatively impact the business. I believe these employees are just there to collect a paycheck and can care less about the patients. It's very sad to know that this kind of behavior continues! 8/4/2021I was very happy the office squeezed me in to see the Dr. Kuritskes . I alerted them to the fact that I didn't have a routine colonoscopy request, due to the fact the toilet was twice covered in blood. As I am a cancer survivor, this was terrifying.  They were going to make me wait three weeks just for the appointment then another 3- 4 for the procedure. After I explained AGAIN, "Please! I have blood in the toilet" they got me in within a week. The Iceberg Dr. came in and as I explained how nervous I was and that I had my last procedure nine years prior he interrupted me.. "Well this is how "WE " -- do it now" and like an over heated robot recited word for word every step and would talk louder if I had a question, and it was a routine procedure exactly like I had before. I would never remember this book he recited to me, (all I needed was the printed list)  as my hair was being blown back by this cold, rude, man-spaining god complex Dr -  it was atrocious. I am over 60, have had cancer and a LOT of Drs, what a jerk. I felt totally abused.  He didn't even give me an exam, shoved me onto his curt and rude young entitled millennial assistant. They say it all starts at the top- the medical secretaries were uptight and rude, this office top to bottom was bad.  My neighbors told another Dr at this office that was also wretchedly rude and to stay clear. I then found a fantastic Dr at UCLA who was kind, gave me an exam and was available in a week at St Joes. Office staff was nice and gracious. After years of "ignoring" my acid reflux, it decided to give me a reminder by making it damn near impossible to swallow anything. A trip to ER proved to be a waste and based upon a recommendation from Valencia Medical Care, went to see Dr. K who was nothing short of amazing. Very friendly and knowledgeable, he smiled as I described my symptoms and said "I'm 95% sure I know what it is." And yes, he was 100% correct that my esophagus was smaller than my pinkie. The front office staff set me up with the first available appointment for an endoscopy which he also ended up needing to perform dilation with a "stepwise balloon" to break up the scar tissue. Even at the surgery center he was funny, great to talk with and made sure everything was explained in great detail. A true and consummate professional, I was out of there a few hours later and can now eat again. One of the most incredible doctors that I have ever worked with and would not hesitate to refer him to anyone! read more

My friends think I am hilarious when I tell them I had a great experience having a colonoscopy, but it is the truth! This was the second time I have had this procedure done, however it was the first time with Dr K and he put me at ease from the moment I met him. The staff at Tourney Surgery Center are also top notch! Another patient mentioned music in the O.R. and Dr K singing; I too enjoyed it and found it very calming while going under anesthesia. I recommend Dr. Kuritzkes to anyone in need of a Gastroenterologist; He does not have the type of personality one would expect in a specialist but he is exactly the type you want: calm, polite, cheerful, knowledgeable and last but not least respectful. Dr. Kuritzkes has a heart of gold. I moved to Valencia, 4 years ago, and knew I was in need of a gastroenterologist. I put this visit off, longer than I choose to admit, knowing that I would probably need a colonoscopy. I was living in fear and already had given myself a death sentence. It got to the point that I said to myself, "just do it!" When I met Dr. Kuritzkes, I found him to be very understanding and compassionate. I envisioned that I would be yelled at for not having any previous diagnostic tests. But I found his bedside manner was very polished. He spoke to me, not at me. He explained to me the reason for the colonoscopy, and gave me detailed information about the procedure and how to prepare for it. Additionally, I was given written instructions that made everything crystal clear. On the day of the colonoscopy, I was a nervous wreck. Dr. Kuritzkes had such a very calming affect that I was able to settle down. I was blessed to find out that I had some benign cysts that were removed, and a benign tumor was also removed. Everyone at the surgical center was so compassionate and so patient. Several weeks passed by and I developed some new symptomology. I had to wait for an appointment and Dr. Kuritkzes was so very kind to call me at home with an intervention. Most doctors in this day and age do not call patients back. Dear Dr. Kuritzkes, I Just received a call from a coordinator (lady) at 818-501-1080 who was asking questions regarding the type of sedative I would like to have. She indicated that my insurance covers the twilight medication but not the anesthesia. I indicated remembering that I was completely out, but I didn't recall having an anesthesiologist. I asked if she could pull my records to see what sedative was used on the last treatment. At this point, she became frustrated, indicating that I would have to make such an investigation myself by calling Dr. Richard Kuritzkes, and the only decision she wanted from me is to choose the twilight medication or the anesthesia. As she plodded through her reiteration of the options in a frustrating tone, I tried interjecting to find out the cost of the anesthesiology, but she would not allow me to say a word edgewise. I then was forced to emphatically ask her to please pause so that I could ask the question. She then responded with the cost of the procedure ($ 300.00) and proceeded to hang up abruptly. I found the behavior to be rude and immature when dealing with such a simple scheduling procedure. Better would have been for the coordinator to have known what sedative was used in the last procedure, inform the patient of the options along with related cost including, out of pocket, and deductible. This would have expedited the primary answer the coordinator is looking to get. I am a resident of Burbank and Vice President of an IT firm. Dr. Manzar Kuraishi is my primary physician. I contribute to the city and have been a long-time advocate for the community. This is the first time in 20 years that I have ever made a complaint regarding services in Burbank. By the way, I called back three times but was immediately hung up (did go to voicemail). Please forward this communication to Dr. Richard Kuritzkes as I think it would be good for him to be abreast of the situation. I was kept waiting for nearly 90 minutes after my scheduled appointment time to see the doctor. This is totally unacceptable.

Dr. Kuritzkes is hands down the best at what he does! How do I know? I have seen over ten different doctors in the last year. He truly listens to your concern and will give you his honest professional opinion. I had a endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy procedure done. I was treated with very high professionalism and care. I have never been able to speak to a doctor regarding my medical results in the past. Dr. Kuritzkes took the time to listen to me - more so than any doctor I've ever had. I told him I'd had problems sticking with the diet another GI doctor gave me, and he was so understanding and gave me something much more manageable. After carefully listening to my symptoms and asking some questions, he explained the condition he thought I had and immediately ordered a test to confirm! I've never had a doctor take so much time to make sure I understood what s/he was talking about, and I can't appreciate Dr. Kuritzkes enough!
