Food is authentic at a great price! Staff are so kind and accommodating I wish I lived closer to this place

I stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for good eats on Yelp and I'm extremely happy that I actually went here tonight. Sometimes when you're hungry, you look at pictures on Yelp and you realize that the pictures look better than they actually taste. Well this place does not fit that criteria. The food looks and tastes absolutely phenomenal. As soon as my cousins and I walked in, we were greeted and seated immediately. I love when workers are quick to take that action - quick acknowledgement and being courteous are some things I truly appreciate in the world of customer service. We showed up a little late, so he informed us that the kitchen was closing soon in the nicest way possible. I liked that they still decided to take us despite them wanting to close soon. We each ordered our own dishes which included pork over rice, bibimbop, bibimbop in clay pot, yet ca mien, and dalbok (spicy chicken wings with rice). All were so amazing and the spices were on point! The service was awesome as well! The workers were friendly and made sure we enjoyed our experience there. The server even gave us a dumpling appetizer on the house for an unknown reason - probably because they're just that nice lol. This place has my heart. Super casual, super large portions of food, and super catering to both my incessant love of breakfast and Korean comfort food. I've eaten there so many times with my friend that I know the day I tell the server it's just me she's going to think my friend and I fought. You know how some places you just have a usual and don't want the menu? Everything here is so good that even if I know what I'm likely to get I want the menu, because the food is freaking amazing, and would make a lovely to go at worst. One thing I'm a sucker for...and you're going to laugh, is the rice and gravy. I swear they put crack in it, there's something so comforting, warm, and flavorful in it that I've had it alone as a meal before (judge me, I don't care). You can get bulgogi and eggs for breakfast and its HUGE! The crispy tofu is garlic lovers galore! Their dan dak and bul dak are delicious and crisp on the outside yet moist on the inside! One day I'll get to explore the menu thoroughly but those are a couple of my go tos beyond the breakfast menu (I breakfast unbiasedly it's all so good). Just note that their minimum for cards are $5, their bathroom is also in the kitchen, so as long as you're ready for that level of casual you have all the tools you need for a budget friendly, homey meal! read more

Galbi Burger: Marinated beef and pork patty with melted swiss cheese on a pretzel bun. To me it seemed like just an ordinary burger with swiss cheese. Yes, it did melt in your mouth but it was on the smaller portion too. If you want fries, that's an additional $2. C'mon it was just typical diner fries. BulDak: Korean-style fried chicken in a spicy chili pepper sauce, with rice and veggies. Um, where's the chicken? Sadly our batch of fried chicken was a batch of fried breading. There was no other depth to the dish. Sad because the service is super friendly and welcoming. I just wish the food was consistent across the board. Would I come back? Got the Tofu Bibimbap and a side of kimchi for delivery lunch on a snowy Monday I had decided to work from home. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because it took an hour and a half to get the food. It's a no frills Korean restaurant that runs like an American diner. It's super casual and BYOB with basic American and Korean menu items. I love a good soondubu jjigae and this place certainly delivered. It's not on the regular menu; it was a special on a side menu. It's a spicy stew with soft tofu and I only like to get it with seafood. The soup had just the right spice kick and comes in the typical stone bowl with a side of rice, kimchi, and pickled veggies. It's not the usual Korean restaurant with personal table grills for bbq or numerous side dishes of banchan. My friends enjoyed their entrees too. They had the tofu over rice, some noodle soup with pork and the dolsot bibimbop (you can't go wrong with dolsot bibimbop). I am already looking forward to returning soon to try other items. I love that it is accessible from the red line and I don't have to drive too far north or the burbs for basic Korean food. read more

Honestly, I was hoping this place would be good but I should have just ordered take out Chinese because it would have been better. I ordered delivery from this place and I won't again. The DulDak was soggy and tasted like Sesame chicken from a cruddy take out spot. The Rice bowl was 90% rice with 5 %japchae and 5% meat and doused in sriracha and mayo. I was hoping the cold noodle would be slightly authentic and nope. Noodles were weird texture for the dish, also a soggy mess. If you have ever tasted even decent Korean food, this is NOT the place for you. Maybe the American food would be better. read more

This place is GREAT every time!! The waitress Jean is always taking care of us! I get the Buldak. Spicy enough for me as well as filling! Always a pleasure coming to this restaurant. One day I want to try the braised pork or the hamburger. I just can't get pass the savory flavor of the Buldak. They even have a breakfast/brunch menu as well. But really, what killed it for me was the bathroom. You have to go through the kitchen to get to it, which, surprisingly wasn't the first time I'd have gone through a kitchen/near a kitchen to get to the bathroom. But the kitchen was so frickn dirty and they were chopping a shitload of raw chicken RIGHT NEXT TO THE TOILET AREA. Like really? Kind of made me wanna vom a little. One of the few Korean places in the area so it was really nice to find this place! I got the bibimkuksu and my friends got the soondubu and tofu teriyaki bibimbop. Also got ddukbokki on the table. Customer service was super nice because they gave us a free appetizer on the house! Bibimkuksu was good but beware it's actually really spicy! Wish there was a little more to it than just the noodles though. Tofu teriyaki bibimbop was good because the sauce was so good. Ddukbokki was also super spicy so again beware but other than that it was decent! Sauce was a little on the watery side compared to other ones I've had. And finally soondubu was good but tasted really beefy which wasn't bad but also wasn't like the other places I've gotten soondubu either so it's just personal preference! Overall would totally return to this place. It's not the BEST Korean place I've been to but considering there aren't many in the area and it's pretty good it gets a 4/5! read more

The bulgogi sandwich hit the spot. The French bread is top notch. The next time I will either see if I can get extra beef on the sandwich or get the bulgogi bowl. The galbi burger is where it's at. We always add kimchi. One of my fiance's favorite eateries because of that burger. Have tried other menu items over the years, but that is our favorite. read more

GOOD korean food in such a simplistic way. So much flavor and it has such authenticity. I highly suggest the buldak (hot/spicy fried chicken), pa-jean (korean seafood pancake) and dol-sot bibibimbop. Everything tastes fresh. Each of our dishes came with a bottle of sauce and the cute, kind Korean man serving us explained what each was for. He was very informative, attentive and kind. There was barely anyone in the restaurant on a Saturday at 7:30. I suggest coming here if you want to avoid crowds. Its small inside so just be warned. I am coming back to this hidden gem. read more

This is a quaint modern restaurant that perfectly blends american comfort diner food with korean comfort food. We had a coupon for this place so on a rainy night we decided to eat here instead of his favorite Dimo's. Ideally located, Rice N Bread is close to Wrigley field and the Addison red line stop. I had recently come back from the Philippines via Korean Air so I was craving me some Bibimbop. I decided to order the Dol-Sot Bibimbop which was bibimbop in a hot stone bowl. It was so good. The hot stone bowl made the outer edge of the rice flush with the bowl crispy adding a nice taste and texture that you don't get with normal bibimbop. The ingredients were fresh and delicious and what you come to expect with bibimbop. The service was good and I really want to try the dan dak (korean fried chicken) next. Next time, maybe we'll split the Dol-Sot Bibimbop and the Dan Dak. Can't wait. read more

Rice'N Bread is dope. Good Korean food for decent prices. I came up to the Wrigleyville area on a cold day, and was pleasantly surprised my experience at Rice'N Bread. I came in as a party of 3, and we decided to order 4 dishes because we were all pretty hungry. We got the dduk bok ki, bulgogi pork, spicy don galbi, and beef soondubu. The dduk bok ki and bulgogi pork were the stand-outs in my opinion. The dduk bok ki was the perfect mix of sweet and spicy, which went well with the chewiness of the noodles. The Bulgogi pork was perfectly flavored and came out on a sizzling plate, as did the spicy don galbi. The ribs were tender and tasty, but I think I'm just less of a ribs fan in general. I thought the beef soondubu was good, but didn't taste significantly different from any other soondubu dish I've had before (although this was the first time I've had soondubu in Chicago). Still, not bad! The service was quick and friendly. One issue that I had was that my water tasted a little soapy..which could have probably been fixed if they dried their cups longer. Not a huge deal, but it was a little annoying. Overall, a great spot to grab (fairly) authentic Korean food. I will probably be back! read more

I've only lived in Chicago for a little over a month, and this place has already become an instant favorite. The place is clean, and service is really good. In fact, they went above and beyond for me the first time I came in for dinner. Their Thursday special was their Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice, and since it was a Friday, I decided to take my chances to ask if that particular special was available. Rice'nBread is the kind of place I use as a litmus test. If someone doesn't like Rice'nBread, I don't trust them. You can order coffee, pancakes, bulgogi, and kimchi in the same order. The servers are always friendly and go the extra mile. I regularly get asked what my favorite dishes are and what brings me back, because the staff seem to care. This place is just so amazing. I first tried them because they offered an order of country brown gravy over white rice. I ordered it with Buldak (Korean fried chicken) and was so happy. To be fair it's just greasy spoon food, it's not the best Korean in town. But I love greasy spoons, they're good for the soul. So this is my kinda place. read more
