Have been reading about this place , saw the IG reviews, passed by a zillion times but never stopped. So squidlett and I were out and about, decided to stop by. We knew it was a mom and pop and take out place, but honestly the display case/front counter was kind of junked up with empty containers and all sorts of detritus . Not very inviting. There were two large trays of the famous manapuas on a table and an older couple kind of lounging about in chairs in the corner. No food in front of them, just looked like they came in to rest. Menu board on the wall, one laminated menu on the table. I guess things for the most part are made to order, but the optics were just not favorable. I really wanted the manapua which are the Hawaiian or Filipino (siopal) versions of Chinese steamed buns with pork . These were huge, got three for $10.05. After I got home, I heated one in the micro and ate half.... Pretty decent. Upon entering noticed, the area could have been cleaner and more organized. I came here for the large portions of fried rice for 10$. I ordered chicken fried rice with vegetable Egg Foo Young. I'll start with the packaging. Usually, the gravy is packaged separately, not this time! The heavier dish (EggFooYoung) was sat on top of the fried rice in Styrofoam containers. By the time I got home practically all the gravy was at the bottom of the bag! A complete mess. The rice had a weird sesame smell and flavor. 3/10. The EggFooYoung was the worst I've ever had. I have been seeing this place online and finally had the courage to try it out lol it's definitely a hole in a wall in China town, parking lot kinda sucks and upon entering already notice the cleanliness of the place which is none existent and there is a little bit of a funky smell in there. Anyways we ordered 6 pork shumai and 1 chasu pork bun (Manapua) and omg the size of that shumai was crazy and same w the pork bun,spent about $13 something and the weight of the bag insane. Shumai not bad at all it's like $1.69 a piece I believe is it the best no but it's not bad at all specially for the huge portion. The bbq pork bun is huge and it's really good and flavorful as well, like the sauce that came with the shumai. Service well it's an old lady and I think 1 person running the kitchen so don't expect much. We will come back again and try other stuff for sure. read more

I came here because of all the rave reviews on social media. I was super excited to get my pork hash and crispy gau gee. I heard it tasted like back home. When I walked in, the lady behind the counter said hello and disappeared in the back for about 7 minutes. I stood there and wondered if I should stay or wait. She eventually came back out and took my order, then disappeared again. I sat there for about 30 minutes, watching other people come in and just stand there. The lady finally came out and brought out one box. She placed it on the counter then disappeared in the back again. After an additional 10 mins, she came out with the second box and told me my items were ready. Finally! Here's my overall take. First, the store is small and definitely needs the floors mopped. Be prepared to be there a long time. It's not a quick stop in and go store. The pork hash is big and was good, same for the crispy gau gee. Finally, it does taste like what we would get back home in Hawaii and unfortunately for us over here in the mainland, we do get our food in Hawaiian time. lol read more

So this was my first time going to Rice to go I thought okay I'm going to try the orange chicken even though it says served with steamed rice I asked for fried rice cuz I like fried rice more. This place is a hidden gem. Its extremely unassuming and absolutely no frills but plates are so flavorful - they know what their doing over there. There was a flyswatter on the floor and he can of raid. While other food-to-go Chinese places have their food laid out under a heat for prolonged periods of time, the husband & wife tandem cooks your food upon order. Talk about freshness. And because it is cooked on order, you can request to adjust the saltiness level. As for me, they are just fine as is. My favorite is their shumai which is as big as clementine mandarin oranges.
