Upon walking in at opening the dining room was empty, extremely clean,, and the radio playing. No staff anywhere to be seen. We walked up to the counter and hung out looking at the menu for a few minutes before we were greeted with a big smile, and "Thank you, for your patience." The menu on the wall is simple, and a little different (in a good way) than expected. We had a nice quiet moment to look at the menu before ordering at the counter. I hate that I have to pay, and choose to tip, before getting any food. We did not get water....? A little confused on this. And didn't grab for it until eating a spicier sauce... Food was okay. Salt/Seasoning could make all the difference in the food that my son and I ate. The Gyoza was bland, the saving grace was deep fried crispy wrapper and sauce. The Sweet Chili Shrimp Rill was bland, and wouldn't stay together, each piece broke as the roll wasn't tight. Essentially krab salad with cucumber and tasteless rice with seaweed. The wasabi with the roll was essentially green paste, with no spiciness level . The roll dipped in the sweet chili sauce was good, but underwhelming. Let's talk about the main dishes. My son had pork Yakisoba, the meat was tasty. He felt the flavor was relatively dull, and only ate about 1/4 of it (normally he devours most any food). I ordered the bibimbap, for which you normally have a variety of toppings to choose from, this order was set after you choose the protein. The beef was delicious, the vegetables bland, and the egg fried beautifully but unseasoned. The thing that caught my attention once I took my first bite was that the bowl was 3/4 rice, and the other 1/4 3 toppings and a sauce on top of a fried egg. At first glance I was excited, the beef flavor was a win, but overall not excited. Overall our experience was a bit of a bummer. May try again, and hope others have a better taste experience when they try out Rice Time. read more

The food is delicious and the service is kind. We make a lot of revisions and they always get it right! Inside, the restaurant is a little old and not the cleanest looking. It may very well be clean, but it doesn't LOOK clean. Bathrooms are not pretty at all. And there's things being store out in the open. upon entering , the restaurant was so clean and well organized. we were greeted by the nicest woman! we quickly ordered and grabbed an ice cold water then sat down. we got the general tao with fried rice and the combo plate with sweet and sour chicken + orange chicken w/ fried rice. it took about 10 ish maybe 15? to come out but did not feel long at all. I ordered a side salad as well and it hit the spot!!!! so simple and so good. the cute little woman brought everything out piping hot and fresh. we were blown away by how good it was. something that made me so happy was the chicken was actually bite sized and made it so easy to eat . the fried rice tasted like high quality hibachi rice. we had never been to rice time and have lived in canby for 5 years now. we will be coming back asap!! need to try the lunch special as well :) thank you to rice time for the perfect dinner . read more

A few calls from the locals to visit this spot as a potential for a hidden gem. Well my first impression was not good. Waited five minutes for someone to appear and take the order despite bell ringing. Felt like perhaps this employee was cooking and taking orders. That impression continued as i was told it would be 25 minutes for my teriyaki chicken to go order. In reality the feeling of disappointment set in quickly as i was thinking of how fast my service is with the food carts at Canby library. The food is standard American type Chinese food. The quality was excellent. I had the orange shrimp - tasty, crispy, hot from the kitchen. It came with rice and some cabbage type salad. The only reason I didn't give them a five was because the service was a little slow. I guess there are just two of them working there so they get a little behind at lunch time. For the longest time, this was the place where all my friends enjoyed their meals more than I did. I kept going back because others suggested it, but it wasn't near the top of my local lunch rotation. My personal preference steers me towards Thai and sushi. I've tried a different lunch special each time and it has always been fine, but it takes awhile to receive your food and in the winter the space is drafty. But lately, I've been enjoying my visits more. Chalk it up to the warmer weather, appreciating the friendly smiles of the staff and finally ordering something I really liked - teriyaki chicken with yakisoba noodles. Standard lunch specials are $5.99, which includes your drink. You will pay an additional $1.50 to substitute fried rice or noodles for white rice. I now attribute the longer wait to them cooking the food, rather than reheating or taking shortcuts, and they offer soup and kimchi while you wait. Serve yourself from the side counter. Four stars reflects that I'm a fan when comparing Rice Time to similar casual Teriyaki places (there are three) in Wilsonville. I do think a couple places in Tualatin have it beat. But who knows, one of these days maybe I'll be the one suggesting Rice Time for lunch. read more

This place continues to be a solid option for lunch. It's not particularly fancy, but the food is good, the service is friendly and quick and the prices are very reasonable. I like the bong-bong chicken as an appetizer for the table - there's a lot of chicken nugget like food with a great sauce to dip it in. I have not tried any of the noodle dishes it sounds like i need to give it a go. One of the nicer touches is a pot of hot soup for you to help yourself after you order. When I come in hungry and cold, this is a great way to wait for my food. I think the flavors are a lot more to my liking when compared to the chinese place just down the block. Stopped by for lunch. It was okay. The front entrance was really dirty. Windows full of fingerprints and smears, front door entrance needs to be updated and swept. I ordered the equivalent of a bento box and a diet coke for $8. Great value. It include a lot of brown rice, chicken teriyaki, egg roll, 3 pieces of California roll-really fresh-and steamed veggies. All very good. Lots to take home for dinner. There is free soup which was really good and filling. Could have hat had that with a small salad. My friend ordered the general Taos chicken with rice. I was super surprised at how good the yakisoba chicken was. The chicken was all good pieces and it was tender and fell apart. The noodles are my favorite kind of noodles and it wasn't filled with a bunch of slimy veggies, but did have lots of steamed broccoli. They didn't have cherry 7up and my kind delivery driver went to two stores to try to find it for me. My husband and my kids all thought it was yummy. My picky 7 year old even told me it wasn't that bad. The kid only likes chicken nuggets. Anyway, will be ordering again. read more

After going to half a billion lunches out to the Wilsonville Rice Time, I was glad to see one sprout up in Canby. The food is inexpensive, the portions generous, and it tastes very good. What I didn't realize was that not all Rice Times are created equal. Wilsonville is good, but Canby is just fantastic! I've gone crazy over everything I've ordered there. Sweet & Sour chicken? The antidote to any bad day. Move over, ice cream. You've met your savory match. One of the rare versions that isn't too cloyingly sweet, but actually does toe the line between the two taste sensations. They have a teriyaki burrito that my husband and I keep itching to try (he rolls everything in a tortilla anyway, from Hamburger Helper to roast chicken with couscous, so I guess it's not a big stretch from home). Considering that each entree is enough to fill you up and take with you for lunch tomorrow, it's an excellent deal. The legendary Free Soup kettle here is infinitely better than the one in Wilsonville. Can't say why, it just is. Kim Chee is fresher, as well. Everyone who's ever rang us up and brought out our food is all smiles, and makes us feel truly appreciated for our business. That's always a great bonus. read more

Perfect spot for lunch! I stopped into Rice Time while on a business trip working in Canby. The value for the amount of food you receive is incredible. This walk-up to order restaurant is great for a quick in and out lunch. The building is nothing special but the food and service was great. There was one woman taking orders, delivering food and clearing tables - She did it all! I ordered the lunch box which came with 5 different items and options for each. All of this for under $10. I love Rice Time. Its very casual - you're not getting a nice sit down restaurant, but its a great place to go with my family. The food is probably the best Asian food in town and is the best value as well. With your meal you get free soup and free bock choy (if you eat there), which my kids love. I am a fan of Rice Time in Canby. Apparently the owner is the same person who started the one in Wilsonville then sold it and went to Canby to start this one. I believe the story because it's what we got used to several years ago in Wilsonville. The $5.99 lunch special with a drink is a great buy. They also offer free (in house) beef/cabbage soup to warm the belly as well as Kimchee to wet your appetite while waiting for your order. The orange chicken and General Tso's chicken are my regular choices. However I had Kung Pao chicken last time and it was grand. But here's the trick, spend the extra $1 for fried rice; it really compliments the Kung Pao and makes it a very yummy plate. The portions are great as well. I have to say that it's almost too much. Next time I go I will swap half the entree with someone so I could have a change of flavor through out the meal. Wait! There's more.......The do have a full menu on top of the lunch special; egg rolls, tempura, Tofu, Tonkatsu-the works! So don't miss it, in fact make it. read more

I really want to give this place a higher rating but my most recent visit probably cost them a star. I was here back in January for lunch and remembered the food was very good, and the free soup when you dine in was a nice touch as well. This time I elected to get take out for myself and another coworker. Long story short, I waited about 40-45 min to get my food, which to me is just ludicrous for getting to-go. Their staff consists of 3 ppl: 2 in the kitchen and 1 in the front manning the phone, register, serving food and cleaning/clearing tables. That's crazy considering how busy they get during lunch and was a definitely a factor in my wait time. On top of that, my regular combo meal was the same portion as the lunch special I got for a coworker, which doesn't make much sense to me considering the difference in price. I occasionally pass through Canby and Rice Time is one of my lunchtime choices when I'm in the area. I am pleasantly greeted and my order (usually chicken teriyaki over rice) is typically prepared promptly. My timing usually finds the place uncrowded. I appreciate the convenience and speed as well as the very affordable prices and tasty food. I'm normally alone when I stop in, but there appears to be sufficient room for families and small groups. I've not seen more than two staff members whenever I've stopped in, but I've enjoyed the my lunches at Rice Time. If you are in Canby, it's a worthwhile choice for lunch. read more

This is one of my favorite lunch places. Aside from feeling slightly like a cafeteria, I can't think of any drawbacks. The serve yourself soup and tea keeps you going until the freshly cooked food arrives (which usually is just after you finish your soup), and when it arrives, you know it. Eat it all and you'll have a hard time getting anything else done that day. The portions are, in my opinion, too large, and you can't complain about their $5.99 lunch special (select one of a dozen or so meals). If you like spicy, they have spicy.
