I was greeted and seated right away. I ordered Happy Family (combination of chicken, beef, and shrimp sautéed with assorted vegetables in a special sauce). It's apparently one of their popular dishes. The hot and sour soup was served before the meal. It's all delicious and reasonably priced. The portion is generous too. The interior is simply and tastefully decorated. There's plenty of parking. To go orders were made and picked up. My meal was served in a timely manner. There's no air conditioning, by fans are running. I'll be returning if I'm in the area again. read more

I love the combo lunch. I'm really glad they have a build your own combo. I got the sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice and fried shrimp. I liked the chicken. It was your standard battered chicken chunks with dark red sauce. I never stumbled upon inedible gristle so that was a plus. The batter was a little thick but none of the pieces were too hard to eat with the flimsy included fork. Good thing about the shrimp. They were properly cleaned and not overcooked. However the batter was so heavy I couldn't eat the bartered end of each piece. Maybe I'm just a fried rice snob but I feel I haven't had a good one in quite a while. This one has bits of bbq pork but literally nothing else. However if I could have one extreme this is the extreme I would prefer. Decent value. Friendly service. Something is right here.... I keep returning.....Come here for the food and maybe get it Togo. The service is prompt and the food is good. The interior is just old and not as clean as it could be. Okay....so I've eaten this food many times. It is easier to digest if you get it to go since the eating area is very unappealing. The building is very old and everything is extremely worn out. The lady at the front has always been kind. My dad was addicted to their food for a while. It is very average chinese food. A few times, their hot & sour soup has been satisfying. The thing that always makes me laugh is how long this place has been open. I keep expecting it to close since I never see any cars parked there. Nothing about it makes me need to go back for more. The first time at this location my GF and I really liked this place, well other than the 20 additional minutes we had to wait for our carry-out, since we had already taken 30 minutes to get there. Food was juicy, meaty, and somewhat flavorful. The second time the order was ready in the 30 minute carry-out time, but WOW, it was quite a disappointment. We asked for sesame and got sweet/sour chicken, the chicken chunks inside were mostly hard chunks that tasted recycled from who knows where or what leftovers. Not sure how often they change their deep fryers, but all of the food had a weird fish smell to it, i could have gotten Thai food if that's what i was looking for. The chicken lo-mein had absolutely no flavor and dull. The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the crab puffs did have a reasonable taste to them with a nice crunch and the wonton soup was decent with strong flavor and real hardy with plenty of broth We will probably stop by again, but it will be a while for these reasons. Wally's Chinese Kitchen, if you do not want to lose the business you currently have find ways to stick to the tastes, textures and aromatic without shortcuts, and in return satisfy your customers with the great food you can potentially create. Hope to find you tastier in the future, because i do not mind driving farther for better tasting food, even if i have to pay more money. read more

What a disappointment. The food was just bad. The sweet and sour soup was thicker than any I can remember and the flavor wasn't great. The wife had beef and green beans that she thought was ok. I had the sesame beef and it was terrible.... Clearly overdone / burnt bits of batter with the beef MIA as far as I could tell. The pork fried rice had about 4 of the smallest pieces of pork you could imagine, no other vegetables, no sign of egg. The service was very slow - we were the only people waiting for an order when we placed our order and it was still 25 minutes. The server asked what was wrong with the meal when it was clear I wasn't eating it she asked what was wrong - I tried to explain... And I still was charged the full price for something that just wasn't good. I have better experiences at other places in town. read more

Just got back into town after long term temp. job in Spokane. Was liking forward to Hot & Sour soup, but SO VERY DISAPPOINTED! Got a small order, thank God. Did you dump the whole container of salt into this?? And I love salty foods. And hardly any mushrooms at all. I added a whole cup of water and it was still too salty to eat. We ate there last week. Granted it's a hole in the wall, but it always has been. This place has been there since I can remember. It was a pretty busy place back when Wally himself was there. But since he sold it and retired, it seems empty all the time. The food is very good and the portions are generous. The lady who is there is very friendly. The chefs don't come out and interact with the diners the way Wally used to. Maybe this is the reason there are practically no diners anymore? read more

Not good. Panda Express destroys this place, and I'm not a Panda Express fanboy. The fried rice was bland. The pork spare-ribs tasted frozen. The sweet and sour chicken was soggy and rubbery. So I've been eyeing this place sinc I've been craving wonton soup. I went here and ordered but when I started eating my soup the wonton taste of poor quality and the broth had a weird taste. There were these also terribly cut chicken in my soup that taste disgusting and no flavor. Nothing had flavor In general, only the broth. After a couple minutes of eating my stomach was in pain and then I threw up. I will not be coming here again. read more

This place has absolutely no curb appeal, but try it anyway. I decided to chance it today and I am glad I did. The food was hot and delicious and you get quite a bit for the money...easily two meals. I got a combination plate with sweet and sour chicken, subgum chow mein, fried rice (with crispy bacon), and an order of spring rolls. I haven't been to Wallys in a year or more as the food really went downhill. I called in an order to go Friday night and it was delicious! A generous side order of fried shrimp was only $10.50, a combo with shrimp, rice and chow mein $7.75 and another with egg foo yung instead of shrimp $6.95 and we both had 2 meals from it. Everything was freshly cooked- piping hot and very good. The only dud was egg foo yung which was kind of burnt and had an excessive amount of gravy which I don't eat. It's the kind of Chinese food I grew up eating at Canton Grill in SE Portland- not fancy but so good! A few other large call in orders were picking up while I was there.
