This place is really really good! No other Chinese delivery in this area compares with Rice Box. They are always so kind and courteous, even when I ask a lot of questions and make special requests. My husband suffers from severe food allergy, and they are so helpful and happy to accommodate us with substitutions like fried rice without pork and the like. Sadly, we can't recommend. The Mongolian Beef and Mu Shu pork were just average or even below par: the Mu Shu pork, though generous in size, was just not tasty, and they added on a charge for plum sauce. I thought plum sauce was part of this dish? As for the Mongolian Beef, it came with very small bits of beef and tasteless vegetables in a water brown sauce. This place is definitely the best Chinese takeout I've had but there are some dishes that are better than others. They are very accommodating when doing special orders, such as removing an item so you know that means it has to be freshly made. Best dishes I've had are Cashew Chicken and Honey Sesame Chicken but I didn't like their Pad Thai or Teriyaki Chicken bowl. They use all white meat chicken which is huge to me, no mystery meat, but the chicken in the Teriyaki Chicken the night I had it was gross. Their egg rolls are really good & I like that they remember orders so easy to re-order. Fried rice was pretty good, the rest was pretty bad. I read the reviews before ordering, and was hoping for decent Chinese food but that wasn't the case. After waiting an hour for delivery we were eagerly anticipating some delicious sesame chicken and bourbon chicken, but we got gross, overcooked garbage. Definitely not worth the price. In response, I will try to better explain my opinion. Ask if it is a customers first visit or call in. More pricey than other places we frequent. They use fresh ginger, which I loved when I tasted my dish. 11.99 for LG Chicken LoMein was too much. It had 2 pieces of broccoli, a few pieces of chicken, a few shreds of cabbage, nonexistent sauce. I loved the General Tso's Chicken. My kids love Chinese noodles, chicken and broccoli, so I thought I'd try both since it was right by the school bus stop, and I was tired. The chicken and broccoli was more like broccoli with no chicken, steamed with no sauce. When I order chicken and broccoli it should be a no-brainier. I wish they had told me there would be no sauce. They charged for adding lomein, which I was fine, as I am used to that charge instead of rice. But for 3 DOLLARS it was plain lomein. I have never experienced this before. When paying this up charge, the several other places we have enjoyed included veggie LoMein, It is a $2 up charge on our normal combo. (If your preparations are different, inform the customer it is steamed, not the usual Chicken and Broccoli) $11.99 For a large LoMein with protein, it should have more veggies and chicken. I'm sorry, but I haven't seen a large LoMein with protein priced at $11.99. If yours had been loaded with veggies and chicken, I would not complain. I wouldn't pay more than $8 for what we were served, honestly. I am aware of food cost, as I also know the restaurant business. I'm not sure what your edge is to pricing vs competition. Everyone likes to think their restaurant is better than others. I am aware of 70-80 hour weeks. No family holidays, etc. Would it hurt your food cost to add veggies to LoMein? A little less broccoli in your Chicken and Broccoli, with more chicken? All I am asking is to add a little more for what you charge, or consider lowering your prices. Educate your customers on your differences, and what makes you so exceptional. If you are going to order here, get the family deal for value. No, we do not order spaghetti and meatballs when we go to Italian restaurants. Yes, for $11.95 you get a giant bowl of pasta with meatballs or sausage, or both- INCLUDING salad, and bread in the price. I think that justifies the cost. You make a good point, however there is more value in that bowl of spaghetti. With a few tweaks, I would return for another try. read more

Last night we ordered the small Family Feast which included General Chicken, Orange Chicken and Chicken Lo Mein... all of which were horrible. The chicken in the first two was incredibly tough and chewy & we did not even eat it. The lo mein wasn't much better, it was soggy and just gross. The ONLY reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because the fried rice was actually very good as were the egg rolls. The egg rolls were probably the best I've ever had. Clearly handmade and HUGE! The crab rangoons, which we paid a little more for, were ok but not as good as I expected. If I were to order from here again I would not order anything that required a fryer, maybe Moo Goo Gai Pan or something else cooked simply in a wok. read more

Disappointed AGAIN! Tried this take out the first time shortly after they converted from the highly excellent China Palace chain. A roommate ordered a vast assortment of dishes but none stood out and none equaled the flavors from prior owners. Eggrolls were crunchy but the filling totally flavorless. Gave them a second chance the other night for Won Ton Soup and Pork Lo Mein. Broth was tasty but the won tons were heavy and amorphic in shape, with a strange filling that included the crunch of water chestnuts. Would have preferred a softer noodly texture with a more traditional meat filling, plus there were no small pieces of roast pork garnish which add to the flavor. The Lo Mein was totally bland and had large hard chunks of carrots and broccoli that needed to be cut with a knife before eating. And the pork, instead of being uniformly sliced in thin flat pieces to blend with the lo mein noodles, were in assorted sized hunks which also needed cutting. Ended up having to add some sesame oil and a couple shakes of Teriyaki to give the dish some Asian flavoring. Have been weaned on Chinese food growing up in New York and been eating it in SRQ since the '60s but this place is def missing the mark in terms of what they claim to be "authentic." Save yourself disappointment by hitting one of the many China One's that have appeared on the scene purveying more traditional preparations of your favorite Asian comfort foods. read more

WORST service ever. They sent the wrong item on a delivery order. A man who stated he was the manager called us back to let us know it was our error and we should "be more careful" when we order. Their employee read back the order correctly when the order was placed. I was shocked as I have never received a special call from a manager to let me know I was in the wrong- and they never sent the correct item. Very poor customer service and given the number of Chinese restaurants in the area, I will NEVER be back. read more

This place rocks! Best Chinese take out in this area. This is legit Hong-Kong style Chinese not like the ersatz stuff at some of the buffets and other "Chinese" restaurants in town. Their Mu Shu, and Lo mein are excellent but for me it's all about the spicy Ma La.. Excellent texture and flavor with just enough spice to satisfy. They offer brown rice as an alternative as well. I hesitate to say this because it will be even busier when I go there, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

Unfortunately, we were disappointed, although expecting anything good from a restaurant that includes "express" in its name should automatically be suspect. One positive were the eggrolls, which were handmade and tasty. The char siu was barely marinated pork loin vs. slow roasted and basted pork shoulder. The Mai Fun was tasteless and the Pork Lo Mein was uninspiring and less than average. The phone service for takeout was very good and they seemed willing to accommodate requests for specific taste needs (hot, mild, different ingredients, etc). I don't know...maybe it was a bad night? We have been ordering from rice box for years. The food is great, vegetables are fresh, and service is exceptional. I suspect some complaints may be meant for other restaurants because the descriptions/pricing do not seem to match up with this restaurant. Alas! Now that they don't use messy styrofoam anymore, I can finally enjoy everything about this business! Delicious food, always hot! Order always correct. Yeah the estimated time is an hour, but it's not always that long, longest it's ever been for us is 35 minutes but it's well worth the wait. Pleasant delivery and phone people. Ordered 2 large meals. Once we got home, my husband opened up his beef lo mein and it only had like 4 pieces of beef in a large. In my coconut curry, I noticed a lot of onion. After picking out each piece of onion, it turned out to be half of my large curry was onion. And that's not an exaggeration! I went back to the place to show them and their reply was, "you should have asked for less onion or no onion." First of all I ordered a curry dish not an onion dish and second, who fills up half a meal with onion. I've had curry at many different places but have never had one that was made up halfway with onion. I like onions, but that's not what I want for dinner. They ended up making me a new meal without onion but only after I made a huge stink. First and last time we'll ever go there. They charge up the wazoo but fill up you meal with the cheapest ingredients. read more

Ordered take out last night. Food was hot and ready when I arrived. Ordered Mushu pork and General Tso's chicken. The food was average at best. The chicken dish was $13 and would be priced much lower at any other Chinese takeout in town. There were only five or six pieces of chicken in the entire dish, two small pieces of broccoli, and one slice of water chestnut. The chicken was not well prepped and had fatty, chewy strings going through it. Each piece of chicken was also cut much too large to eat with chopsticks. The Mushu pork portion was more generous but only came with four pancakes so all the leftovers will have to be eaten without them. I cannot see the value based on the quality of food and what seemed like a high price. Because this is so close to my home, I was really rooting for them to have improved. I have neighbors who go consistently and say the food is good. Perhaps I just had them on a bad night? Might have given three stars if the prices were more reasonable. read more
