The lunch portion of chicken fried chicken I received was on the large side. It was seasoned very well, and I loved the seasonings. The meat was so tender and juicy! I know I got my food just a few minutes after the it was fried. It couldn't have been more fresh. The star of my meal was the mashed red potatoes and gravy. They actually cook and mash real potatoes. It is so hard to find this when dining out. They used the perfect amount of salt. It's been a long time since I have not added salt to my meal but I didn't need to here. If I were asked how this business could avoid closing, I'd say A) Either make it an Irish Pub or change the name of the restaurant, and B) avoid saving money but reducing the more expensive ingredients (e.g. meat) and increasing inexpensive items like bread and rice (in my wife's entree). I noticed that there were few customers during dinner time, and I now know why.

The CFS was thin but very tender with a very mild flavor. Nothing too fancy or exciting but not disappointing. The biscuit was similarly mild and quite acceptable. Tender enough and fluffy enough to fill the role of a receptacle for the creamy and very lightly peppered gravy. If there is a stand-out item on this plate it is the German potatoes. Grilled crispy on the outside and soft inside these are a nice change from the usual hash browns or so often poorly done "home fries". I definitely recommend Hugo's if you want a classic diner breakfast in Claremore.

Used to go on Tuesdays for $.60 wings. I normally wouldn't waste my time reviewing a franchised place like this, but we ordered to go and I tried a new sauce called "Crimson Crush" and thought that it look like an interesting flavor to review. I ordered a large order of traditional wings with half in a Crimson Crush sauce and the other half in a Bourbon Honey Mustard sauce. I found that the wings were slightly overcooked and had dry meat on the extremities. I've had two extremes of cooked wings here. Perfect and then the slightly overcooked. Wings can be tricky to get right but it requires a cook with a good eye. I think you could get lazy and leave it up to a timer and that spells disaster. I was drawn to the new flavor, because of the blood orange ingredient and the "Achiote" mentioned in the sauce description "A citrus sauce that boasts the bold flavor of blood orange and mild pepper flavor of the achiote spice that'll have you looking forward to every bite." Achiote was not a culinary word I was familiar with, so I had to look it up. Prior to looking it up and after eating my wings, I knew that there was annatto in the sauce. I could see it, taste it and smell it. I also knew the annatto seed comes from a South American tree. What I didn't know is that this tree is called the Achiote tree. I guess they're not wrong in calling it achiote spice... sounds more interesting and exotic than annatto, which most cooks already know is used as a natural yellow food color in many foods including chorizo, margarine and yellow cheddar cheese. Used properly it not only gives color and aroma, it also has a mild peppery taste that comes out perfectly in this sauce and is a great counterpart to the strong fragrant citrus flavors of the blood orange. Blood orange in my opinion is an acquired taste. Personally, I don't like the flavor as it is way to floral for my liking. I had the wings and sauce for the experience and will probably never eat it again. Not that the sauce isn't well made, it just doesn't make me happy to eat it. Citrus flavors usually work very well with chicken this is one I think I'll leave alone. I write these reviews to assist you in the food experience and not so much the service experience.
