this place is uninviting in every single way: small, glasses aren't easily exhibited, and the staff was not very "customer" oriented (they hung out mostly talking to each other). to repeat what i just said: the place is small very few glasses are displayed - to see most you have to open up drawers - glasses either: looked UGLY, looked cool but not on my head - or were 75% for women (also $200+) last point - the ladies working there didn't really seem too helpful - in fact i was kind of ignored the whole time pretty much - i will continue my quest for the perfect glasses... elsewhere read more

I had a great experience with this business. What got me in the door was the wide selection of styles in eyewear. The owner happened to be there that evening and was extremely helpful putting aside some glasses I was interested in so I could come back and make my final selection. I selected Reynold's because they were on my insurance company's list and were geographically close to my home. They got me scheduled right away for a routine exam for 10:00a on a Friday. I showed up at 9:50a and there was no one there. So I hung out and waited. At the stroke of 10:00a, Dr. Martin Morris strolled in and proceeded to spend the first 15 minutes of my exam time opening the shop for business and calling patients to tell them their orders were in. Exam itself was fine and I felt like he was a very competent eye doctor. And I guess this is how they earn their one star from me. When I went back to pick up a pair of trial lenses they'd ordered for me, I again arrived to find no one there at the start of business. I waited ten minutes for someone to come and open the shop before giving up and heading off to work. Now I'm embroiled in a dispute over $40 that they say my insurance shorted them but they can't tell me what part of the claim--lenses, exam or both--that $40 applies to. In the meantime the contacts that I paid for at my initial visit are being held hostage until the disputed charge is resolved. All in all, it has been one bad experience after another with these folks. At the very least, the office staff I've interacted with have been very pleasant and personable. But I wouldn't recommend this place at all. read more

I'm really surprised by the bad reviews of this location. Overall, I've had a good experience here, and certainly I keep coming back. I've bought enough frames from Reynolds that I wish they had a punch card. I've also had lenses replaced in some of those pairs. All of my glasses have come from either the Hawthorne or downtown location. Dr. Morris at Hawthorne has been my only optometrist for the last decade. He's been incredibly helpful, friendly, and affordable (I don't have insurance, so that's a big deal) The sales staff at both locations has been..mixed. Yes, there have been a couple of incredibly pushy or dismissive people working there , but that's the same as every other retail location in Portland. There have also been a couple of really sweet, helpful women working there . And a number of people who basically did their jobs competently, but weren't memorably awful or wonderful. The selection varies from one season to the next. The company buyers have an excellent eye for unusual designs, unique details and interesting materials. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. I'm pleased that the Hawthorne store has started stocking Lafont frames again, as they make some of my favorites. read more

For new and unusual frames in Portland, I always direct people to Reynold's. Not only is their selection much more interesting than your average eye wear shop, but it's easy to dig for deals here. Of their four locations in the city, at any given time one of them is having an amazing sale, so it's worth calling to see which location is currently offering discounts. They will exam you and prescribe you here, too, so it could be a one-stop trip to outfit your face with cute glasses. Last September Reynold's Hawthorne location handed out three free frames to any customer that happened by! Their generosity and appealing designer frames make it my number one pick for new eye wear in Portland. read more

I lost my glasses after I left a hotel room at 4am to catch a flight, in a hurry and totally disoriented because I missed my alarm. Fast forward 2 weeks--I'm in dire need of them because contacts 20 hours a day aren't cutting it. I am willing to spend whatever it takes to get new glasses. NOW. I walked over to Reynolds on a Friday around 3pm. My credit card was ready to take some serious heat and I was in the mood to buy some brand new hipster glasses at what looked, from the outside, to be a pretty cool store. Sadly, I walked to the door, and the guy who was working there was walking out. I was all, "are you closed?" and he was all, "no, I am going for lunch...so...come back in an hour or so..." No offer to wait a few minutes and help me find something. I told him I REALLY needed some glasses, and he was unsympathetic. Cold. Told me to just come back later. Worst customer service/sales EVER. Sorry dude. You just lost a $522 sale to Blink. And let me tell you-I LOVE my new glasses. Reynolds, you suck. read more

Decent selection, but unpleasant vibe. They close at 6. This evening I entered at just after 5:30 and was basically welcomed with a hollered, gruff "Just so you know, we close at 6". So cramped that somehow, with only 3 other people in there, if felt overrun and difficult to browse .I would much prefer to give my money to Hawthorne Vision Center. They have an open, comfortable space and salespeople who know their stock and as well as how to provide customer service. read more

Nice frame selection, they bill insurance, and they are generally helpful and friendly. If you have a mild prescription (-2.00 or less) and are just interested in doing basic plastic lenses, it's a pretty inexpensive deal. If you have a higher, more difficult Rx then you may want to take your frame elsewhere or shell out for a high-index lens. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there didn't seem to be a middle ground (poly, mid-index..). I get why people like Reynolds, but I think they cater to hipster fashion side so much that they overlook the quality of the product. This was just my experience the one time that I purchased glasses from them. When I got my two pairs of glasses back, the frame on one of them was so warped that it didn't even look like what I had purchased. (and even worse, it was only one side of the frame, so I can't even pretend that it was meant to be that way!) I know that it is not their fault directly, but that of an outside lab, but still I'm not sure how they ever made it through their hands to be dispensed to me. Like I said, the only way I would return would be to buy a frame only. read more

Dr Morris is a friendly, positive and professional optometrist! My whole family sees him and we get high quality vision care. I think he's particularly good with my seven year old son, making him feel comfortable and have a good experience which is important at his age. I got the northeast deal, so, while I got my frames at their Outlet Shop on Sandy, the price included an eye exam with Dr. Morris on Hawthorne. Both stores were amazing, when it comes to customer service. The best part of the whole thing was Dr. Morris. He was incredibly patient and explained the whole process to me. He really was outstanding. I had my two year old daughter with me, and she had a full fledged melt down during my exam. He handled it with aplomb and was very courteous. I will whole heartedly refer them to all of my friends! The frames are great. Cutest ones I've seen anywhere. True, they can be a little more pricey, if you want cutting edge designer frames. However, the store on Sandy has last seasons frames that you can get at an AWESOME price. read more

This company does not know what they are doing, and refused to fix mistakes they made on my glasses. The workers talked me into frames that were completely inappropriate for my prescription. I had to learn this from others after being completely unable to use them. The company now wants me to pay to have the problem fixed, when it was their mistake to begin with. Their employees should have totally known better, and they should take responsibility for their poor service. DO NOT USE this company. read more

Written ten days ago: It would have been so easy for Reynold's Optical to make me a happy and loyal customer. Instead, it's almost as though they went out of their way to frustrate and repel me. I wouldn't reccomend them to anyone. I placed an order for my glasses less than 24 hours ago, but decided shortly thereafter to live with my broken glasses. I've got duct tape and good humor. There was no sign posted anywhere in the store which said "No Refunds." Nobody told me they had a "No Refunds" policy. When I received my receipt, I was not told of their "No Refunds" policy. It was only when I got home that I noticed a light pink stamp on my receipt: "No Refunds." So I immediately called them, but they had closed. And there was no answering machine. So I had to wait until the next day. Soon as I got a chance, I called up and explained that I was requesting a refund. Could they help? Since it was less than a day since I placed the order? And since it was going to take three (3!) full weeks to process the order? And since there was no adequate communication about the "No Refunds" policy? Could you check? All they had to do was call the lab and shuffle a little paperwork, no harm done. Obviously no work had actually been done to make the glasses, they said as much. I'll go back and patronize them later. I would have been a happy customer. So easy. Instead, I was surprised at the hostility and combativeness of first, the clerk on the phone and subsequently the manager who was arguing with me so aggressively (she was actually angry) that I was cut off and couldn't even make my case. It's kind of weird, because some of the most valuable feedback a business receives is a candid complaint. Businesses should at least *listen* to them. I couldn't get a word in edgewise as their "store policy" was repeated to me over and over again in spite of my reasoned discussion against it. Since I wasn't satisfied with their handling of the issue, and explained that to them, I asked if I could speak to someone who COULD make a final decision about whether or not they were going to create a happy customer. Nope, no, sorry, can't let you talk to the owners themselves, they're way too busy doing "administrative work" in some faraway office that oversees their vast empire of three (3!) locations. The store policy was "as explained" and that was final, nothing more could be done to help me. They were just employees with no power but to repeat store policy. They would fill out paperwork (A "Customer Service Action Form!" or some b.s. like that.) And get back to me later. I must have made some sense, or been persistent because I finally got them to agree to an 80% refund. (They're retaining 20% as a "restocking" fee. Apparently, that's to restock ozone or some other intangible.) It was *never* explained to me why they couldn't simply issue me the full refund (and make a loyal customer) other than that it wasn't "their policy." Well, this review is going up as soon as I receive my craptastic, second-rate, hard-earned, half-baked check. What a lousy place. Hopefully they'll do the ethical minimum and place a conspicuous sign about their rigidly inflexible "No Refunds" policy. Post-script: they just called back to re-nege on the offer of an 80% refund. I just got an eye exam at Reynolds from Dr. Tran who was wonderful. One of the nicer eye exams I've ever had.

I was really excited to see this place on my insurance as it was in walking distance and local. I called and made an appointment for 9:45am on a Tues, and was told to come a few minutes early since I was a new customer. I got there at 9:40am. At 9:50, no one had shown up yet, so I called and the phone rang and rang. Very clearly on the door it says "Open at 9:45 am Tues and Fri." I waited until 10am and left. This is really disheartening to me. I try to support local as much as I can. If you don't mind waiting around for other people to get it together go here. Otherwise, don't waste your time. I can't tell you how many compliments I have received for my glasses! Reynolds has a buy one get one free special every now and then, and that is when to buy. I saw their Optometrist this time, and I will never see anyone else ever again, he was awsome. As it turned out my script was all wrong. When it is time for new glasses, this is where I will be going!!!! I was very impressed by the customer service at this location. The women who helped me was amazing at picking out frames that looked great on me. She was very friendly and didn't mind that I left her piles of frames to put away. I love the styles they offer. They were definitely more expensive, but I LOVE my glasses. Destiny is the staff member who helped me and she was great to work with. Choosing glasses is kind of tough, since most of us have to wear them all the time.
