He straightened out and adjusted my Ray Ban frames in a few minutes on the spot and wasn't even going to charge me anything, but I insisted he take my money! Dave was super kind and knowledgeable. I had him replace the nose pads on my wire-rim glasses, replace both arm covers, AND switch the lenses from one frame to another of the same kind, as well as adjust the hinges of one pair which were terrible bent. It was an incredibly reasonable price, and true to what he'd told me he estimated it would cost when I'd called him the day before (though he mentioned over the phone that he'd have to see the glasses in person to be sure of how much it would end up being). It ran me $28 total, but I added a tip because he was so thorough and helpful. He had the nose pads and arm covers already at his work station, so the repair was done quickly! When I asked about nosepads at an eyecare boutique, I was given Dave's business card. I found the address, searched the storefronts, and finally noticed the little placard at the bottom of the front window of the Crystal Heart Boutique. His booth is about halfway back on the left/west. Dave's a fairly mellow guy (i.e. good "bedside manner") and didn't mind taking some time sifting and rummaging through his collection for something that had the right attachment and fit. He replaced my too-small-and-hard pads, and adjusted my frame's temples for a proper comfortable fit. These days, most eyecare boutiques refuse to assist unless they sold you the glasses, so a service like Dave's can be a must for online purchasers who prefer not to adjust their own. The temple of my rimless, hingeless titanium frame computer glasses snapped, and my gaffer tape fix looked hilarious but didn't work very well. Wonderful work and craftsmanship. We are so appreciative of the excellent work Dave provided. My husband's glasses broke between the stem and the frame. We were desperate to get them fixed so he would be able to see again and get back to work. I googled where to get them fixed and Dave was the first one that came up. After reading the reviews, we had to give him a try. We went to Dave's shop at a little after 10am on a Thursday and he fixed them right away. He said "no problem I can fix that. It is just past 09:00 Friday morning. I'm sitting in a meeting and I'm taking my eye glasses off. All of a sudden, the nose bridge snaps and the right portion of my glasses fly off while my left side still remains in place. Great... this just made my day. My metal frames were not supposed to break that way! I need these glasses to read and I don't have a back-up pair except for prescription sunglasses. I immediately take off from work to go to my optician. It turns out that my frames are under warranty but replacements will not arrive until Monday afternoon at the latest... not good. I have computer work to do rest of day and over the weekend. Now what? I can wear my sunglasses but what if I need to drive at night? The optician refers me to Dave Thayer. I called to confirm that Dave could help me and he said to come right over. Dave removed the lenses from the 2 pieces of metal frame I gave him, He then de-soldered the broken nose bridge from each side, found a suitable metal bridge from his spare parts bin, adjusted the overall length to match original, soldered the new bridge onto the frame pieces, colored the bridge to match the color of the frames, installed the lenses, cleaned the lenses, replaced both nose pads which were bad, replaced the screws that hold the lenses and the screws for the temples, made adjustments to straighten the frame so it lays flat on a table top and within 30 minutes I had my glasses fully repaired and functional. All of this for $52. To top it all off, the frames look normal like they came from the factory. Thank you Dave! You saved my day and my weekend. Your expertise is incredible. Watching you repair my glasses was a masterclass in efficiency, skill, and customer service. Folks, don't just replace your expensive frames, have Dave repair them. The screw came out of my glasses frame and then the lens came out. I spent several weeks trying to find someplace to get it fixed since I am new to the area. Finally found Dave Thayer. He has a small booth inside an artists' store. He replaced the lost screw with a better screw that shouldn't fall out and tightened the other side also. Very helpful. Only charged $6.
