Super Quirky place. Lots of glasses everywhere (that they sell). They are also the only shop in town that fixes glasses. I've used them for that as well as to transfer lenses into a different frame from the broken one. If you need your glasses fixed, come here since it's all you got. But, also if you need some new glasses they have nice options too. They don't do eye exams though but, refer you out. read more

Got Mykita frames repaired here a couple years ago--twice! Asterix made the weak point that broke stronger than it originally had been. Of course the other side's weak point broke as well a few months later, so I got them repaired again. Great work, and worth it ($75 per repair, as I recall) when you've paid something like $500 for super lightweight stylish frames. P.S. I don't recommend the Mykita with the obvious weak point near the hinge, where the frame around the lens is super thin... also, I stopped buying Mykita, lol read more

Today was the third time - over a number of years - I've patronized this shop. Each time, I've been able to get what I needed: various repairs to my glasses. I was so pleased today that they could actually replace the broken side piece (temple?) instead of having to try to weld it. Plus, it was a pleasure to chat with the two guys working there while I waited for the repair (which didn't take long at all). Is it a fancy-dancy shop? Oh, Asterix. I really wanted us to be friends. I really did. I was so frustrated with my glasses that I could hardly think. And you were recommended. And close by... Why oh why does your sales clerk not have a mask on? When I came in to drop off my glasses and when I came to pick them up, no mask. All the customers had them, but she didn't. Why? Do you not care about our health? Do the rules not apply to you? And then, when running my credit card, she said the machine was "r*tarded." If I had not been on my last spoon I would have walked out right then. But I had nothing to give. So I stayed. Two stars instead of one because they did a good job on the repair and got it done early. A bit more attention to health and, well, not being offensive, and it coulda been five. Unfortunately I would never go back. In a span of 4 months I was charged $120 and had to go back 3 times to ask them to repair them correctly. They were so tight they didn't close properly and I could barely fit them in a case. Sharp edges were also left on the temples. In the end, they still aren't really wearable and I ended up just getting new glasses. They guys working there are great and are really trying. I heard their shop in Beaverton does a much better job. read more

Edit: updated rating because the glasses I (finally) got are excellent. Walk into the store and the lady that helped me wasn't wearing a mask, let it slide. My glasses broke so I needed a new pair ASAP, also moving out of Portland in 15 days. Find a pair of glasses real quick, order the nice lenses, my pair cost about $700. Quoted 7-10 business days till they arrive. 10 business days later they aren't there yet. I need to drive to San Diego so agree to have them shipped to me. Told that they will be shipped overnight. 3 days after that I receive an email that they've been shipped. 3 days later the tracking information goes from "label created" to in transit. Will arrive 3 days later. So an "overnight" ship is taking a week. I had interviews set up around the dates I was told they would arrive, and instead had to wear my broken glasses to the job interview. Very upset with the service at asterix. No attempt at compensation or apologies, just blaming it on the post office. I didn't have one issue with the USPS over the holidays and I sent gifts to all my family in San Diego. Ridiculous. Don't go here if you need your glasses quickly. read more

I called this place and asked how much it would cost to have the arm attached back onto my glasses. I was told $35 for one side and $65 for both. Not bad I thought. I should've went in that day because when i did go in it was someone else working, and this man all but called me a liar about the price I was quoted, refused to budge on the price he was quoting me which was absolutely ridiculous, $65 for the arm to be soldered back on and $75 for the other pair I have that are broke on the frame. That pair I'm not sure what all it would entail to fix, but still these prices are just rude, especially now during these times where a lot if people are struggling. Plus he had this shit eating grin on his face the whole time i was talking to him! $65 to attach an arm!!! No thank you. I left, I will deal with my broken glasses until I can afford new ones. read more

Place is an absolute hidden gem and the only place I'll go to in the future for repairs or buying new glasses. When I came in, I spoke with the owner and it's been around for over 20 years and you can tell -- their selection is huge, they have (at least) two full time technicians for adjustments and repairs. Prices are a great value compared to what I've seen from other stores. There's really no reason for me to go anywhere else moving forward. Highly recommended! read more

Great place at PoFo corner. I was separated from my bifocals while biking and they spent an hour or so closely inspecting the pavement. After I realized that they were gone, I circled back and returned to the macadam in question The lenses had separated from the frame which, likely due to a car tire, went all to pieces. I was able to pickup the intact lenses and the frame fragments and, after searching the all-knowing Yelpiverse, found myself at Asterix. They assured me that, given 1 hour, they would be able to provide me with a few choices of frames to choose from so off to have a coffee and, as advertised, they did. I chose my frame and, 90 minutes after walking in, ... I rode home promising that I would try extra hard to keep my glasses out of my shirt pocket.. Thank you gentlemen! You nailed it!! read more

I have driven by them for years and though I am pretty unobservant I noticed they repaired eye glasses. So when my glasses broke while I was cleaning them (the filament line holding the lenses in place broke) I decided to head over there to see if they could fix them. They looked pretty difficult to me to fix, and I wasn't confident they could be fixed. But to me it was "o ye of little faith" , the nice lady assured me that she could fix them and did it in about 15 minutes or less for $10. I was very happy as I was going on vacation in just a few days. I couldn't have asked for more! They have a great selection of sunglasses too.. everything I go I see a pair I need, the place has turned me into the Imelda Marcos of sunglasses, it's hard To go in and NOT buy a new pair , bought four pair last year. Like other reviews - none of the employees were wearing a mask inside and one needs to be very close to adjust/fit glasses. I've been coming here for years and Tim and Steve are great, always helpful, prices are fair and they are the only ones in town that will drill into bridges to make them to fit narrow noses (hence 2 stars). However, Lisa (?) sales clerk has been rude to me on two separate occasions and this last time, in addition, made fun of the glasses I brought in. She also didn't know the business made permanent adjustments to the bridge (other than the wired nose pads) and when I asked her for the repair, went in back charged me $15 and just stuck on 25 cent sticky nose pads from Walgreens. The same ones (!) I just removed in front of her before I handed her the glasses. I should've paid attention more when she gave the glasses back but I was so uncomfortable I wanted to get out as fast as possible. Also, there was no social distancing and all the customers were wearing masks. Lastly, I don't normally feel the need to leave negative reviews but people really should be warned of the lack of safety exhibited here. It was really surprising and disheartening. Tim, Steven, Lisa, and the rest of the crew at Asterix took great care of me. I had absolutely crushed my titanium frames, and after panicking and asking a variety of people what to do, the answer was unequivocal: "Call Asterix!" So I did...and boy am I glad I did. When I first called to describe my situation, I asked if I could text photos of the damaged frames to them, and they said "absolutely." After I did, I spoke to Tim, who said to bring them in, and that he could fix them. And fix them they did! My glasses are like new - functionally and aesthetically. The customer service that surrounded the actual work they did was terrific, too - they were responsive and helpful. That made a difference, considering I was in a pinch to get these glasses back. I dropped a text book on a pair of glasses and the little lobe that a lens retaining screw threads into spit in half. I've known this place always existed as a repair place from driving past it all the time so I took it in. It was fixed the same day in a few hours for $45 for one weld/braze on a basic metal frame. Even if you have a cheap basic metal frame like the one I got fixed, consider the type, conditions of your lenses. Mine were in good conditions and bought on a special so it was worth $45 to have it fixed. We'll see how it holds up. When you're choosing between fixing and replacing, don't just choose and ask for quotes. Check the lead time. The shop I got my sun glasses from had to order the lenses and it took two weeks, and the only other option was a higher profit upgrade lens if I wanted it done in the normal turn around time. read more

A hidden gem in SE Portland--- and they SAVED my prescription sunglasses! In a rushed moment I broke my new prescription- bifocal sunglasses. AGH. The frames were irreparable and as I had gotten them in a different state, it seemed no one in pdx had the same brand of frames for a reorder. I was directed to Asterix, and when I called, the guy said, "Come on in and see what we have that will work." I brought my glasses and they said they would measure the lenses and try to find something that would fit them. They called me back in about 2 hours! and I was able to go in the very next day and pick from 2 pairs of frames and POP - the guy popped the lenses right in - Voila! Hooray! Yay for the guys at Asterix eyewear. Other- they had some VERY interesting-looking frames on display. Note- The first gentleman I spoke to said they are one of the only places that REPAIRS frames in the country. He said people all over the country send him frames to fix. read more

Oh gosh, did I find an amazing pair of sunglasses here. They were really, really expensive, but they work so well, and they look incredible, too. I went in with the intention of purchasing some Ray Bans that I lost after 4 years of frequent wear, and the salesperson at the front pointed me to some even more interesting glasses that were far better looking, had better sun protection, and fit me way better than any Ray's I'd ever owned. He even had me walk outside to check the difference in the sun. I spent a lot of time thinking about a new pair of sunglasses, and he was incredibly helpful. Wow!
