My husband and I have been going to Dr. Ann Edmonds at Hillsdale Eye Care since they opened. Dr…read more Edmonds and Heather Dudzik are WONDERFUL! We were sent here because they were providers on our vision insurance plan, and have been so happy with our experience. It's a small shop so the service is personal and thorough. They have a great selection of frames and are willing to order anything that they don't have. Best anecdote - I wanted to wear contacts for my wedding but had been hesitant for a while because I have some contacts issues. Last minute I decided that I DID want to wear contacts. I called Heather and asked if there was any way I could get a fitting and buy a set. She said not to worry - she'd give me some free samples for the wedding and we could just leave it at that. Great! Unfortunately, I was running around doing a number of errands and forgot to pick up the samples. I freaked out. I called Heather and she said she could go to the shop and leave some outside in a little bag for me, and I could pick them up when I got around to it. I went and picked them up the night before the wedding. Crisis averted. MUCH better than your local Lenscrafters.

I have a unique billing situation and was told that I would receive a follow up call to order contact lenses because the front desk needed to speak to their billing department. I had yet to receive a call over a week later, and decided to call myself to place an order as I am running out of contact lenses. ABC Vision refused to bill my insurance because it "took too long to receive payment last year". This was never communicated to me, and had I known this I never would have returned to ABC for an exam. The lack of communication and disregard of patient health is unacceptable. I am really disappointed because the doctor here is great and it's not her fault that staff are so unwilling to support patients.

Went in for an annual eye exam while wildfire smoke was in town. My eyes were kinda bothered by the…read moresmoke and the doctor saw it. The conversation should have stopped there. Instead health insurance was billed with a medical exam when its quite obvious what caused it: the smoke. I didn't need a doctor to tell me that. The prescription the doctor gave was for over the counter re-wetting drops. The purpose of my visit was an annual eye exam, not to diagnose why my eyes were partially red. It's fairly obvious why. I'm walking through in one of the most polluted cities in the world on the way to the optometrist. The doctor should have said "Wildfire smoke is irritating your eyes. Come back next week or when the smoke clears for an exam." This is how my old eye doctor would have handled this and he operated until retirement, had a great practice, was passionate about optometry. What do I get here? A business that operates like it's run by private equity. They did a bait and switch. Instead of what I expected to pay for an eye exam, they billed a more expensive health insurance co-pay. This seems more like a money making strategy and insurance fraud than looking out for my well-being. When I called for clarification the woman I spoke with was not helpful and she wouldn't reverse the health insurance claim. I was honestly frustrated when I found out there was no recourse and the woman I spoke with was not understanding. She didn't treat me as a person seeking health care, more like a customer that needs to go away. My Optic turned a $10 eye exam into a $60 health insurance co-pay on a whim. I didn't go in looking for help with my eye dryness due to wildfire smoke. I wanted an annual eye exam. I didn't ask for the services they billed me. The doctor didn't make it clear what was going on with billing in the exam room, didn't give me a choice. Had I been given the choice I would have opted out and come back later for an annual eye exam. I looked into this more and on the chart it says the doctor diagnosed me with "eye dryness due to excessive use of contact lenses." I hadn't worn contact lenses in weeks not did I wear any into the appointment. The woman threatened to charge me the full amount for the visit instead of charging health insurance as a possible conclusion. I think they are committing insurance fraud. This experience left me wanting to dispute the claim and still needing an eye exam, questioning if I should even go to eye doctors if the lot of them are going to practice business this way. They need to make it really clear they can turn your eye exam into a medical exam and give you the opportunity to deny or accept. Instead, it's confusing and you end up spending more money than you intended. When I was asking why the insurance needed to be billed, I felt pushed around. No one was explaining anything properly. This place used to have good customer service and good doctors. Now I'm not so sure.
