It's more 3.75 but I'll give it 4. I called on a Friday to see if I could get an appointment to bring my car in to change my tires - all 4 and I had my own tires. My appointment is 1pm and I show up wanting to drop my car off and he said it'll be awhile and I told the guy at the counter that I made an appointment the night before. They don't have books so the guy on the phone probably verbally confirmed it. Clearly appointments don't mean shit. He said he will do mine right away because I gave him the stink eye for taking an appointment - stink eye to the rescue! Anyways they called me 30 minutes later saying the tires were changed and ready to go. Pretty awesome considered they originally told me an hour and every place I called said 1 to 2 hours. It's also very affordable at $20 per tire! Hence why I gave it the four stars - speed and price! read more

Awesome awesome auto repair. Walked right in yesterday without an appointment and Jackie immediately diagnosed the problem with my car and went straight to work. After a short wait, car was fixed and I was on my way. Looks like I found a new mechanic! read more

Scott is a very nice, honest, hardworking owner, one time my son's car won't started in the morning which there was street cleaning that day,he had to go to work ,so he called me to help him take care of that,I called the insurance to tow his car to the nearest auto place, that was Rex Garage,I did not call the place ,it is my first time there,Scott help checked it right away, told me need to change a part, only charge me $80,that was very reasonable, that was about two years ago,the car did not have any problem until now.Another time was my car's head light was broken,I drop in one other shop to fix it,it took the guy almost an hour did not take the light bub out and charged me $7 for not thing, but Scott fixed it within five mins with a new light bub only charge me $5. I have recommend few friends there ,we all very happy that we find him. read more

I can't begin to say what a relief it was to see my car window fixed. That alone would have been good but they went above and beyond by vacuuming the glass out of the car. They also charged me exactly the quoted price. I would definitely recommend Rex's. read more

I was issues with starting my Honda CRV, took it to Rex Auto and they were great! I initially thought it was an alternator issue, but Jackie informed me that he would check and let me know. As it turns out, the starter and ignition switch was bad. They replaced both parts and car runs great now. Thanks to Jackie and his staff! Would highly recommend this place for your car repairs. read more

Fast and efficient. Have had basic services here and never a problem. Price reasonable. Can bring in your own part / supplies if you prefer a certain brand or select item and they can use it. read more

Great auto shop! Very honest and they tell you exactly what you need and the price without over charging. Great customer service. Will refer my friends for sure. My new go to auto body shop in SF. read more

Rex's garage is THEE place to bring your car into. Had my car stalling out between reverse and drive. Gave him a call, told them what was happening. Came in dropped it off. No Scam, No unnecessary charges, took the time to describe to me the part that was malfunctioning and got it fixed. Great place, like the other review said, I wish I could give it six stars. read more

Competent, honest, and reasonable price. I have found a dependable mechanic! Jackie diagnosed and fixed steering issue, brakes, and fixed headlight problem that another mechanic gave up on. Fantastic service. BTW- I consider bilingual mechanics a good thing!! Don't complain about people doing a good job who are bilingual! Only down side is they open at 10am, but they are open Saturdays so I see reason why. read more

I only go to Rex for my car service. Been there 3 times, once replaced a bad starter, once fixed a tricky check engine light, and recently fixed a loose exhaust pipe. Every time I was happy. The service is fast, price is right, and job is well done. They never pressure you into buying anything you don't need. They have a lot of loyal customers and that's why they don't have to cheat like other auto repair. read more

This garage is great. Fair pricing, timely repairs. Would highly recommend.

These guys are simply the best. Had my car towed there in the middle of the night and these guys were able to replaced my starter the very next day. The price was very reasonable. Thank you so much. The following month my sister had the same problem, and again, they had it fixed hours later. Thank you guys. read more

Solid and competent little garage two doors down from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Jackie patiently answered all questions and the shop serviced the car quickly and correctly for a very reasonable price. Good place -- will go back for maintenance servicing. read more

Called around a couple of places to get my brake pads installed, quoted around $80-120 and 1.5-2hr waits on a Saturday. Called up Rex, dude told me $60 in 45. Gave me a time to come in, I came in at said hour. He went straight to it, before I could even finish 8 pages in my book he was handing keys back to me. With costly purchases I would usually overlook great customer service for affordable prices, this was a complete package. Made my day, it felt equivalent to getting a car wash given the ease of the whole experience. Thanks y'all! read more

i should of wrote this review in October but i lost track of time and better late then never.. any who my story goes like this.... back in october my driver side window decides it wants to go off the track. so i called a few shops asking how much just to put the window back on track and the prices i got where around $150. frustrated and ready to just to go buy the tools and do it myself i called Rex's and Scot said he would do it for much less but they were closing in 20 min. so i broke a few speeding law to get there and Scot did it in about 5 min. the best part was even though the quote over the phone was cheap, when he was finished he told a cheaper prices bc he said it was an easy fix. i paid and give him a $15 tip and even then i thought i was ripping him off. since my window i've been back to replace a water pump and timing belt. Scot is fast and does quality work and since i've been going there ,he has never tired to sell me anything i did not need. i've recommended this place to a few friends and they have been happy with the prices and service read more

Outstanding service! My engine light came on and I took it to the dealer and was told I would have to replace my intake manifold at a cost of $2,000. My warrantee had expired and I certainly couldn't afford that. I then took my car to Rex's Garage on Taraval. I was informed that the problem was a small plastic part in the manifold. Of course Chrysler doesn't make that part separately, you have to replace the whole manifold. The mechanic then told me that my car would run fine without the part. If I did want to replace the part they would look for a used manifold and it would cost $1,000. He reset the engine light and told me no charge. He would call me when they found the part. The bottom line is my car is running fine and Rex's saved me $2,000. read more

I did my tire change here, and they did it in a less than an hour. 5points for that. The people were very friendly and honest. I asked if i needed an alignment after changing my tire and the mechanic asked me If my car was tilting to left or right when driving on a straight road. I said very slightly, then he said no need for an alignment. The price was also a good deal compare to other garage I asked read more

I've been meaning to write a review for a while for Rex Auto. I found this place only because it was close to my house but I've been bringing my car here for 3 years now (since i moved here). The guys are great. I know nothing about cars, but they always seem to give me very reasonable quotes.. in fact most of the time cheaper then what my friends predict. The first time I came, my car kept failing the smog test. They let me do it a few times (charging me once) until my car was able to pass! Another time I left my car there because I felt like something was wrong. They inspected it, filled up my fluids, and then told me nothing was wrong and didn't charge me anything. Awesome service and I feel comfortable bringing my car here without fear that they'll scam me. read more

Rex Garage is one of the best if not THE best auto repair spot in SF. I've been taking my car there for 4+ years and their great service has been consistent the whole time. I exclusively work with one of the mechanics named Scott. He always tells me how it is and never gives me any B.S. Sometimes he'll repair simple things for no charge. For example, I had a rattle underneath my truck which I thought might either be a transmission problem at worst, or just a loose heatshield at best. I brought it in for a routine oil change and asked Scott if he could see where the rattle was coming from. Low and behold it was only a bent heat shield and he fixed it w/o charging me extra. Any other mechanic would have told me I need to replace something and charge me X dollars for the work. But don't think you can just come here for a freebie. These guys are honest hard-working individuals who cannot survive off a bunch of freeloaders. Those free repairs came with years of my continued business. Thanks, Rex Garage and thanks Scott for all the great service and honesty over the years. Highly recommended!!! read more

The most trustworthy mechanics I know. Won't try to screw you over and charge you for unnecessary things you don't need. Come here for tune-up's, engine problems, anything. read more

my church brings all their vans here for maintenance among other things. i can see why! really great prices. i came in for a battery installation since i had brought my own battery. i did my research and called up other places and they were quoting an upwards of $30-$40 just to install the thing. at Rex's they charged me about half. plus, he walked the old battery over to the o'reilly's next door so i could get refunded the $12 they charge for disposal fee. i'm gonna come here for all other car issues for now on. read more

good place to bring your car in for services, i have Mercedes SF misdiagnosis my Mercedes R350 and they fixed the car with a lot less.

So far very pleased with the service they did on the car. The changed brake pads and rotors and I think it ended up being much cheaper than other places. They also seemed to really understand the car. We bought the new parts at O'Reilly's down the block and had them put it in. And it was done relatively fast. I definitely recommend this place. read more

It's not often you can find an honest car repair shop but one does exist. It's Rex's Garage. I've bought my car 3x for different repairs. Each time was fast and they never charge you for parts or service you don't need. I've had alternator, starter and steering pump replaced and is satisfied every time. The most recent visit was to have an emergency tire replacement. It was done in 15 minutes. I'm glad to have a trusted garage close to home. Very convenient. read more

Thanks to Yelp, I've found my go-to car repair shop. My 21-yr old car ended up blowing a coolant hose along 19th ave and I was desperate to find a reputable place to take my car. I've been charges hundreds for the same sort of problem, as its occurred 2 times previously, so I was weary of bringing it somewhere where they won't take my arm as payment. So I ended up bringing my car in, close to their closing time. They were working late, so that worked out for me. By the next morning, they had called and said the car was finished already! Yes, they had diagnosed the problem, and fix it that morning! Awesome. I came by to pick it up and to my surprise, they cost was less than what I had spent on dinner that night! Incredible...never had I thought I'd find an honest and reliable auto repair shop. In the next two weeks, my husband's car got rear-ended and the car wouldn't start afterwards. Had it towed to Rex's and they found out that the wires to the terminals to the battery had been knocked out. In usual fashion, they fixed it on the spot. It was just to tighten them back in, but I really appreciated that they dropped what they were doing just to fix it for me. I tried to pay them, but they wouldn't charge me! That was real nice of them, so I tried to tip them, but they wouldn't take it! These are great guys and I will never trust our cars to any anyone else besides them. read more

literally the only shop I'll trust my car with. never once have I left unsatisfied. highly recommended shop! Scott is love, Scott is life.
