Last day in Madrid, and my friends and I were looking for a few final spots to check out. We decided to try Revoltosa based on its good ratings--but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype.
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt off. The door attendant, who also seemed to be our server, was sarcastic and rude throughout our visit--before we ordered, during the order, and even afterward.
We started with drinks. I had a Jack Daniels-inspired cocktail, which was actually quite good. The ladies ordered a bottle of wine and some mocktails, and we were happy with those--props to the bartender, who clearly knew what they were doing.
Later, we ordered the gambas al ajillo, but they were disappointing--bland and overly oily. The broccoli dish was the same: flavorless, missing even a basic touch of salt. Overall, the food felt like an afterthought.
The service didn't improve as the night went on. When we were ready to leave, we had to repeatedly ask for the bill. After several failed attempts to get the waiter's attention, I finally had to whistle. That got a response--but instead of bringing the receipt, he scolded me, saying "we don't do that in Spain." Fair enough, but attentive service should come before lectures, especially in a nearly empty restaurant.
To sum it up: the drinks were the only highlight. The bartender deserves credit. But between the rude service, disappointing food, and uncomfortable vibe, I won't be returning to Revoltosa. A real shame, because it could have been a great last-night stop. read more
